BREAKING: Trump phones Zelenskyy after “no deal” meeting with Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed speaking with U.S. President Donald Trump after a meeting that ended with “no deal” with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports President Trump held the meeting with President Putin on Friday at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage, Alaska’s biggest city.

Trump described the summit as an “extremely productive meeting” and that “many points were agreed to”.

He also said there is a “very good chance of getting there” – referring to a ceasefire – but conceded that there remain sticking points with Moscow, including at least one “significant” one.

He cautioned that it’s “ultimately up to them” – referring to Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. “There’s no deal until there’s a deal,” he said.

Reacting, Zelenskyy confirmed that he plans to meet Trump in Washington on Monday after Trump’s summit with Putin.

“Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to work with maximum effort to achieve peace,” Zelenskyy said on X on Saturday.

He wrote: “We had a long and substantive conversation with  @POTUS. We started with one-on-one talks before inviting European leaders to join us.

“This call lasted for more than an hour and a half, including about an hour of our bilateral conversation with President Trump.

“Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to work with maximum effort to achieve peace. President Trump informed about his meeting with the Russian leader and the main points of their discussion.

“It is important that America’s strength has an impact on the development of the situation.

“We support President Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the USA, and Russia. Ukraine emphasizes that key issues can be discussed at the level of leaders, and a trilateral format is suitable for this.

“On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation.

“It is important that Europeans are involved at every stage to ensure reliable security guarantees together with America. We also discussed positive signals from the American side regarding participation in guaranteeing Ukraine’s security.

“We continue to coordinate our positions with all partners. I thank everyone who is helping.

Meanwhile, White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, confirmed to reporters that Trump indeed had a “lengthy” call with Zelenskyy on the plane back to DC.

Leavitt also disclosed that Trump has briefed Nato leaders on the outcome of his talk with his Russian counterpart, and earlier said it was now up to Zelenskyy to ‘get it done’.

Trump, Putin end Ukraine summit without deal

U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not agree on any deal towards ending the war in Ukraine on Friday.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Trump and Putin discussed territorial issues during a U.S.-Russia summit, geared at finding lasting peace between Moscow and Ukraine, in Alaska.

However, the U.S. President had warned that if Putin does not pursue peace in Ukraine, Moscow could face “economically severe” sanctions.

Meanwhile, President Trump described the summit as an “extremely productive meeting” and that “many points were agreed to”.

He said there is a “very good chance of getting there” – referring to a ceasefire – but conceded that there remain sticking points with Moscow, including at least one “significant” one.

He cautioned that it’s “ultimately up to them” – referring to Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. “There’s no deal until there’s a deal,” he said.

Zelensky, who did not attend the U.S.-Russia summit in Alaska, said he expects intelligence briefings on discussions of the Trump-Putin meeting.

“I expect a report today from our intelligence services on the current intentions of the Russian side on the Alaska meeting,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.

He wrote that the main goal is for the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump to pave the way for a three-way meeting that would include him.

“It is time to end the war, and Russia must take the corresponding steps. We are counting on America,” Zelensky said.

It is the first time Trump and Putin would meet in person since the start of the February 2022 full invasion of Ukraine by Russia, with discussions expected to focus on potential paths to a ceasefire.

Both Trump and Putin addressed a joint news conference following the consultations, but no ceasefire agreements were reached, and no deal whatsoever was agreed upon.

TNG reports Putin’s high-level Russian delegation included Kremlin Foreign Policy Adviser Yuri Ushakov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defence Minister Andrey Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, and Kirill Dmitriev, the Kremlin’s chief U.S. negotiator.

The meeting, also the first after Trump took office in January, was held at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage, Alaska’s biggest city.

U.S. envoy Witkoff meets Putin for three hours – Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a roughly three-hour meeting in Moscow with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, the Russian state news agency TASS reported, citing the Kremlin.

No details of Wednesday’s meeting were initially disclosed.

Kremlin photos showed that Putin’s foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, also took part in the talks.

In July, US President Donald Trump gave Moscow a 50-day deadline to end the war in Ukraine.

The timeline was then shortened to this Friday.

Trump has threatened a new wave of sanctions if Russia fails to comply, including on countries that purchase Russian oil and gas, like India.

Putin receives U.S. envoy as Trump’s Ukraine deadline nears

Russian President Vladimir Putin received U.S. special envoy for talks on Wednesday, days before President Donald Trump’s deadline for Moscow to accept a ceasefire in Ukraine or face sweeping new sanctions.

The Kremlin announced Steve Witkoff’s visit but provided no further details. Photos released by the Kremlin show that Putin’s foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, also attended the meeting.

Following years of limited contact between Washington and Moscow due to the war launched by Putin against Ukraine, Witkoff has now visited Russia five times this year.

In July, Trump gave Moscow a 50-day deadline to end the war. The timeline was then shortened to this Friday. Trump has threatened a new wave of sanctions if Russia fails to comply.

Amid growing frustration over continued Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilians, Trump pledged to impose “sanctions and maybe tariffs, secondary tariffs” on countries still doing business with Moscow, in a bid to choke off its war funding.

Russia launched its full-scale invasion of neighbouring Ukraine in February 2022.

Putin wants all of Ukraine; he is crazy – Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump has fired at his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, accusing him of wanting all of Ukraine and saying he has gone absolutely crazy.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Trump to have said Putin is “needlessly killing a lot of people” and that “missiles and drones are being shot into cities in Ukraine for no reason whatsoever”.

“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely crazy!

“He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever,” Trump stated via Truth Social.

Recall the U.S. President had said his personal intervention was needed to push peace efforts forward between Russian and Ukraine.

Last Monday he held separate talks over the phone with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The phone calls with leaders of Russia and Ukraine deepened expectations that progress might soon be made on ending the more than three-year war.

Following the phone calls, Trump said Russia and Ukraine will “immediately” begin ceasefire negotiations.

Although, there was no detail on exactly when or where such talks might take place and who might attend them.

However, it seems there is no headway yet.

“I’ve always said that he wants all of Ukraine, not just a piece of it, and maybe that’s proving to be right, but if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia,” Trump stated.

In his post on Sunday, Trump went on to blame Zelenskyy for contributing to the endless war in Ukraine, saying “everything out of his mouth causes problems”.

The U.S. President advised the Ukrainian President to stop making comments capable of inflaming the war further.

“Likewise, President Zelenskyy is doing his country no favors by talking the way he does. Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop.

“This is a war that would never have started if I were President. This is Zelenskyy’s, Putin’s, and Biden’s war, not “Trump’s”.

“I am only helping to put out the big and ugly fires, that have been started through gross incompetence and hatred,” Trump stated.

Meanwhile, a recent Russia’s attack in Kyiv with an hour-long barrage of missiles and drones, killed nine people and injured more than 70.

This was said to be the deadliest assault on the Ukrainian capital since July 2024, and just as peace efforts were coming to a head.

Zelenskyy said after the attack in April, that he was cutting short his official trip to South Africa and returning home as the city reeled from the bombardment that kept residents on edge for about 11 hours.

Zelenskyy said this appeared to be Russia’s biggest attack on Kyiv in nine months and called it one of Russia’s “most outrageous.’’

The attack drew a rare rebuke of Russian President Vladimir Putin from President Trump, who said he was “not happy” with it.

“Not necessary, and terrible timing. Vladimir, STOP!” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.

However, senior U.S. officials have warned that the Trump administration could soon give up its efforts to stop the war if the two sides don’t compromise.

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko announced an official day of mourning in the capital, following the strike.

The Ukrainian air force said Russia fired 66 ballistic and cruise missiles, four plane-launched air-to-surface missiles, and 145 Shahed and decoy drones at Kyiv and four other regions of Ukraine.

Rescue workers with flashlights scoured the charred rubble of partly collapsed homes as the blue lights of emergency vehicles lit up the dark city streets.

Russia vs Ukraine: Putin skips peace talks with waiting Zelenskyy in Turkey

Russian President Vladimir Putin did not appear in Turkey on Thursday for proposed direct peace talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy, who was waiting in Ankara after publicly challenging the Kremlin leader to face-to-face negotiations to end their three-year-old war, was left without a counterpart.

In Putin’s absence, a Russian delegation arrived in Istanbul, but it remained unclear whether any meetings would take place, potentially the first since March 2022, following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine a month earlier.

Zelenskyy dismissed the Russian delegation as merely “decorative,” casting doubt on Moscow’s commitment to genuine negotiations.

Speaking at the airport in Ankara, Zelenskyy said the next steps in the peace process would be decided after his upcoming meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who welcomed him with an honour guard at the presidential palace.

Putin’s no-show dealt a blow to renewed hopes for peace, which had recently gained momentum with support from the Trump administration and Western European leaders.

It also raised the likelihood of new international sanctions on Russia, which Western nations had warned could follow if progress stalled.

  • Macron goes to Washington today after Trump’s 90-minute call with Putin

Macron goes to Washington today after Trump’s 90-minute call with Putin

French President Emmanuel Macron will be in Washington on Monday to discuss Russia’s war against Ukraine with U.S. President Donald Trump.

The meeting comes on the day of the third anniversary of Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine and days after Trump falsely blamed Ukraine for starting the war.

It also comes after Trump held a 90 minute phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin – without Ukrainian or European participation.

Last week Macron called European heads of state and prime ministers to Paris for crisis talks and then spoke to Trump on the phone.

Among other things, the meeting dealt with the question of European peacekeeping forces to secure a possible ceasefire.

Trump is also expected to meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Washington in the next few days.

According to media reports, Starmer could be keen to present the concept for a peacekeeping force.

On Saturday, Trump had a brief exchange with Polish President Andrzej Duda on the fringes of the CPAC conservative political conference just outside of Washington.

There had been concern that the United States would reduce its troop strength in Europe or even withdraw its soldiers altogether.

However, Duda said he was convinced that this would not happen following a visit on Feb. 14 by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to Poland, which shares a border with Ukraine.

What I will tell Trump about Putin when we meet – Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron will use his upcoming trip to the White House to try and convince U.S. President Donald Trump to align with European allies.

Macron is expected to meet with Trump on Monday to discuss the situation in Ukraine.

During an online question and answer session on Thursday evening, Macron said he planned to tell Trump that showing any weakness to Russian President Vladimir Putin would make it harder to deal with China and Iran.

“I will tell him: deep down you cannot be weak in the face of President (Putin).

“It’s not you, it’s not what you’re made of and it’s not in your interests,” the French leader said.

Following the online session, Macron said he had another phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the fourth in the past week.

The pair had reviewed “all the contacts I have had with European partners and allies willing to work towards a lasting and solid peace for Ukraine and to strengthen Europe’s security,” Macron wrote on X.

Zelensky said the call was “long and substantial” as well as constructive.

“We thoroughly discussed our views on security guarantees – a just and lasting peace is our shared goal, and we are working towards it together. This is how true partners should work,” he wrote on X.

Macron has hosted European leaders over the past week to seek a common line on Ukraine against the backdrop of the U.S. plans for a possible end to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Russia maintains stance as talks between Putin, Trump tarry

There is no understanding yet when a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump may be held, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov.

”It the conversation is not scheduled; there is no agreement, there is no understanding on this matter yet,’’ Ryabkov said on Monday.

Ryabkov added that Moscow has not yet established direct contacts with the new U.S. administration. There have been no steps to establish contacts yet, Ryabkov said.

He commented on a possible meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the G20 summit. He added that he would not prejudge the development of events.

Moscow not withdrawing conditions for talks with U.S.

Russia has said that it would not withdraw or cancel its conditions for resuming strategic stability talks with the United States (U.S.).

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said on Monday.

“The president said what he said. The president did not say that we are canceling everything that we have repeatedly brought to the U.S. side,’’ Ryabkov told reporters.

Russia said its ready to conduct dialogue with the U.S. on strategic stability, provided that Washington makes positive changes to its policy, Ryabkov added.

  • Inauguration: Putin congratulates Donald Trump

    Inauguration: Putin congratulates Donald Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Donald Trump on his imminent inauguration as U.S. President.

He had heard Trump’s demands to restore direct contacts between Moscow and Washington and to do everything to prevent a third world war, Putin told Russian news agencies at a meeting of the National Security Council on Monday.

“We certainly welcome this approach and congratulate the president-elect of the United States on taking office,” Putin said.

He said he is also prepared to resume dialogue with the new U.S. administration on the conflict in Ukraine.

Russia, he said, is interested in long-term peace, not in a ceasefire to regroup and later resume hostilities.

Russia has been waging a brutal war against Ukraine for almost three years. It has repeatedly accused the leadership in Kiev of oppressing the Russian-speaking population in the country.

In addition, Moscow sees its security threatened by Kiev’s efforts to join NATO.

The Kremlin is therefore demanding not only the ceding of territory from its neighbour, but also a renunciation of a powerful army and its accession to NATO and other permanent military alliances with the West.

Moscow is also claiming the role of protecting the Russian-speaking population and thus a say in Ukrainian domestic politics in the future.
