PFN denies having squabbles under Oke’s leadership

Bishop Emmah Isong, National Publicity Secretary of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has disclosed that there are no skirmishes in the fellowship.

Isong made the assertion during an interview with journalists on Monday in Calabar while reacting to reports on national dailies, stating that the fellowship was in disarray under the leadership of Archbishop Wale Oke.

The publicity secretary who is also the founder, Christian Central Chapel International, (CCCI) said the accusations made by one Mr Olalekan Bilesanmi was an attempt  by the  writer to jeopardise Oke’s reelection bid.

He stressed that claims that Oke was inept,  incompetent and never a promise keeper were fake and a figment of the writer’s imagination.

He said, they had never had the fellowship been this vibrant adding that the comments against the PFN president was a roadside discussion and does not hold water.

“I think the fellow misfired, I have seen that national daily featured by the young man and I want to tell you  that there is no storm whatsoever in the PFN.”There are no schism in our great fellowship and our national president  Dr. Wale Oke, is leading the fellowship robustly.

“In his leadership, we have found greater moment of unity and friendship, never had the PFN enjoyed a high apex of relationship like this,” he said.

Speaking further, he said the president has raised the fellowship to a point that they had strong, young generation of leaders, who they call the next generation of PFN.

While describing the president as a man of proven integrity, and capacity to lead the body to higher heights he said God endowed him with wisdom.

“We have laid a foundation of our second National Secretariat in Abuja, our National Secretariat had been in Lagos in the past 40 years but now we are going to have another Secretariat in Abuja, this  had never been so,” he said.

  • Subsidy removal will worsen Nigerians’ suffering —PFN to FG

Subsidy removal will worsen Nigerians’ suffering —PFN to FG

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has told the Federal Government that removing fuel subsidy will aggravate the suffering of Nigerians who are already underprivileged.

The President of PFN, Bishop Wale Oke, urged the government to defer the proposed policy in order not to worsen the hardship and trigger crisis in the country.

Oke said this in a statement issued on Sunday on the proposed subsidy removal.

He noted that the implementation of the policy would lead to hike in the price of fuel and this would have a ripple effect on prices of goods and services

Oke warned that the implementation of such policy would increase the hardship currently being experienced by the people of the country.

The priest said prices of foodstuffs and other daily needs were increasingly going out of reach of the people, noting that if the proposed subsidy removal was effected, it would exacerbate the hardship of the people of the nation.

Bishop Oke further said the situation in the country was very bad because of the steady decline in the purchasing power of Nigerians as a result of the continuous fall in the value of the nation’s currency.

The statement read, “Everybody will feel it, particularly the less privileged. The negative effects will surely outweigh the positive.

“The cost of transportation for human and goods across the country will skyrocket and other things connected which will have a spiral effect on general living standard of the populace; the suffering will be multi-dimensional. Please let all stakeholders be sensitive to this avoidable path and do the needful.

“By whatever means, let the Federal Government put its heart into ensuring that our refineries are back to life. In addition, in order to stem the rising cost of living, farmers and others connected to them should be encouraged. This is what can help our economy.”

He said the PFN would always support policies that would enhance good governance, but charged the government to this effect to put in place tangible palliative measures that could ameliorate the hardship being experienced.

He said, “Without begging the issue, there should be well defined palliative measures in place that can cushion the effect of the hardship being experienced by Nigerians, especially the commoners. One is not talking about political palliatives that never last. We have seen enough of such.

“An increase in the price of petroleum from its present N165 to N340 per litre can trigger tension and crises in the country which in turn can paralyse our economy if not handled with utmost care.

“Again, the planned introduction of N5,000 for 40 million poor Nigerians is to create a cesspool of corruption. How do you define the poor? They, mostly, don’t use telephones. They, mostly, don’t have bank accounts. How will the money get to them?”

Oke urged the government to be wary of policies that could jeopardize the conduct of the 2023 general elections, insisting that all hands must be geared towards steering the wheel of the country to safety.

As a solution to the rising cost of food items, the PFN President advised that farmers and relevant stakeholders should be empowered with relevant tools and funds through loans with little interest.

Oke, who is also the presiding Bishop of The Sword of the Spirit Ministries, implored the government not to relent in its efforts at ensuring that security challenges in the country become a thing of the past.

PFN urges Nigerians to fill vacuum of worries, anxities with prayers

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has cautioned Christians against amplifying the country’s problems and challenges but to pray ceaselessly for the nation and its leaders.

PFN President, Bishop Wale Oke, on Sunday said:

“Christians should not amplify the challenges or problems of the country, but pray and fill the vacuum of worries and anxieties with prayers.

“God is showing mercy to our country and we shall prevail if we the people do not relent in prayers or give excuses not to pray.’’

Bishop Oke gave the message at the end of a three-day Anchor Men’s conference of the PFN themed “In His Presence.”

The conference was part of an Anchor Business Breakfast Meeting organized annually by the Men’s Fellowship of Family Worship Centre (FWC) in Abuja.

According to him, Christians, especially real Christian men should not lose their place in God’s presence, because it is in God’s presence that men will get clear directions for life.

“According to Philippians 4:6 in the Holy Bible, God says be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayerful and supplicate with thanksgiving; let your requests be made known to God.

`This is the will of God, so instead of worrying and amplifying the challenges, pray about everything and watch God intervene,’’ he said.

Oke said that it was only when men sought God’s guidance and directions to lead that they would be able to lead rightly and righteously.

He added that where kings could not do anything, where the military was paralyzed, and the economy could not be sustained, it was only the Word of God through prayers that would make a difference in the country.

Pastor Oke prayed for peace and ease of tension in all the regions of the country and in all spheres of governance.

At the conference were Mr. Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation who is also the Chairman of the Anchor Men’s Fellowship, branch pastors of FWC and other ministers of God.

  • Buhari should be removed if it would bring peace-PFN President

Buhari should be removed if it would bring peace-PFN President

The President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop Wale Oke, has said President, Muhammadu Buhari has failed woefully in providing security for Nigerians.

Bishop Oke, who is the presiding bishop of The Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Ibadan, called for the removal of Buhari in the message he preached in the early hours of Saturday at a vigil organised by his church.

The vigil was held at the Precious Cornerstone University Garden of Victory, Ibadan. The university is owned by the church.

Oke noted that said Nigeria had become a war-torn country with assassinations going on daily across the land while the security agencies had become helpless.

Oke said, “The President should be removed if that would pave the way for the desired peace in the country.

“In the 1960s when Nigeria fought a civil war, the eastern part of the nation was the theatre of war.

“Sadly today, everywhere in Nigeria is a theater of war with much killings and bloodshed going on in the country every day.

” Some wicked people kidnapped some students and demanded N800m for their release; they killed them. The government did not lift a finger and you are telling me that the President has not failed. Buhari has failed.”

“For the first time, I have found myself praying that God should remove Buhari.

“They kidnapped students without the government doing anything and you are telling me that the government has not failed. Are you saying we cannot move against an incompetent government whose security apparatus has collapsed?”

The cleric accused the Buhari government of treating the killer herdsmen, who he said were horrifying many parts of the country with kids’ gloves.

“It is a shame that government could not protect those at the IDP camp which led to the massacre of a number of them in Benue State. The Presidency is now attacking Governor (Samuel ) Ortom who was weeping over his people that were slaughtered.

“Give us peace by all means even if it means removing an incompetent and a failed President. Oh God, do it quickly and give us peace by all means. Give us a quick change at the top level of government of Nigeria.”

  • 2019 polls: PFN urges Nigerians to shun divisive speeches

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has urged Nigerians to shun divisive speeches which create tension among various ethnic and religious groups in the country.

Deputy National President of PFN, Bishop Wale Oke, stated this at the Edo State Government House in Benin City, at the weekend on a courtesy call to Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Bishop Oke said political and religious leaders, Nigerians in general must work towards promoting unity among the people.

“We all as Nigerians should emphasise what unite us as a people rather than what will create lines of division amongst us,” he said.

He noted that Nigeria as a country is stronger together, adding, “Political, religious leaders and other Nigerians must avoid politics of ethnicity and religion which are capable of dividing the country”.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us and as such, we must make effort to build the country through collective efforts. Let’s emphasise what unites us, as one indivisible nation,” he further stated.

The cleric urged Nigerians to hold leaders accountable by ensuring political office holders deliver on campaign promises such as security, education and other dividends of democracy.

“Let our political leaders tell us in concrete terms what they are doing to protect lives, stop the killings, kidnappings and other issues confronting the country,” Bishop Oke said.

He tasked political office holders to be more responsive to the people and urged those yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so in order to participate in the forthcoming elections.

Governor Obaseki tolled the same lines with the Bishop, saying, “We should always remember that we are our brothers’ keeper and must imbibe the teachings of our faiths on peaceful coexistence by shunning acts that divide rather than unite us as Nigerians”.

The governor noted that the peace being experienced in the state could be attributed to prayers of religious leaders, adding, “I will continue to encourage spiritual leaders to always pray and work for the peaceful coexistence of all the people in the state and country”.
