Mercy Chinwo: Inspiration behind gigantic wedding cake steps revealed

The inspiration behind each step of the gigantic eight-layer wedding cake of popular gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo has been revealed.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Mercy Chinwo and Blessed Uzochikwa, resident pastor of The Water Brook Church (TWB) located at The Dome, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State, tied the knot over the weekend.

Chinwo, whose wedding has been the talk of the town for the past weeks officially had a church wedding on Saturday with her lover, trending with over 20,000 searches after she and her husband said ‘I do’.

The wedding was filled with glamour, colours and as well reputable dignitaries in attendance to celebrate with them. The wedding cake never went unnoticed.

Photos and videos from the grand ceremony have been shared online, including photos of the wedding cake that left wedding guests and even netizens stunned with its gigantic structure.

Each layer of the eight-step cake was stamped with the title of Chinwo’s hit songs, the likes of Excess Love, Na You Dey Reign, Obinasom, and Chinedu, amongst others, revealing the inspiration behind the wedding cake.

“I remember I was so stuck on Excess Love back in 2018, and then Chinedum. I remember the class I had in Tanzania. We listened to Chinedum back to back. Those songs were words of encouragement to me. They lifted my mood any time I was down. They gingered my spirit while I was working. They still do till date.

“While working on this cake, we were vibing to Na You Dey Reign and didn’t feel the stress of the work. I had to prepare everything, set it up very well in preparations for my team to deliver to Port Harcourt. And yes I had to dance because I was so happy for a Blessed Mercy. Her excitement was very contagious,” the cake designer, Dew Drops Cakes wrote on Instagram.

Speaking about setting up the cake at the wedding venue, the cake designer wrote: “Was I scared of the set up because I wasn’t there with my team? Yes, I was a bit. But I was also sure of my team I sent out to handle this project. Because my structure for the cake and business was right.

“When I say structure, it cuts across a lot of things. I monitored the set up from where I was and I was satisfied. As at 7.30 am, the hall was set, everything ready. We went in and did our set up smoothly. God was so in charge of everything”.

TNG reports Mercy is widely known for her hit single Excess Love, released in 2018. The song earned her national and international recognition and sealed her status as one of the best vocalists in the Nigerian gospel music ministry. The unique inspiration behind the cake has left fans and social media users gushing.

  • JUST IN: DSS invites Ebonyi PDP Spokesman over his Biafra-themed wedding cake

The Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Mr Nwoba Chika Nwoba has been invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) over his wedding cake.

Mr Nwoba and his wife, Onyinyechi, surprised their guests at their wedding reception when they unveiled a cake designed with the insignia and colours of the defunct Biafra Republic.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the wedding took place at St. Joseph Anglican church, in his country home, Ekpelu community in Ikwo LGA of the State on Saturday, June, 25, 2022.

The reception took place in the compound of the community primary school.

Confirming his invitation by DSS, Mr Nwoba, in his verified Facebook wall on Monday at about some minutes past 9 p.m, wrote that the DSS, had summoned him to appear in their Abakaliki office by 12 noon tomorrow [today].

Nwoba wrote, “Got an invitation from the DSS, Abakaliki office tomorrow by 12 pm. I knew I would be invited. As a law-abiding citizen, if the road is clear tomorrow, I will honour it.”

Speaking on the intention behind the cake, the Ebonyi PDP Spokesman stated that he did his wedding with a Biafra-styled cake as a show of solidarity with Biafra agitation.

According to him, every Igbo man no matter their political affiliations ought to embrace the struggle for the creation of Biafra.

“Some journalists while interviewing me about why our wedding cake wore a Biafran colour and logos, asked if security agents had invited me for questioning over it.

“I continue to reply that court only proscribed IPOB and not Biafra as an ideology. On that cake, no IPOB inscription was there. Wasn’t cut in the name of IPOB when it was about to be eaten. I am not a member of IPOB. Biafran colours have been in existence before the establishment of the IPOB.

“Biafra is an ideology. It’ll continue to be one until the Nigerian state begins to factor Ndigbo in the scheme of things in Nigeria. What I am against is the idea of pursuing Biafran state creation violently.

“All of us have to be alive to witness when the agitations will be led to rest either by way of getting the Nigeria system giving a sense of belonging to the South East or by actual creation of a new country the people can be proud to call theirs. That’s the intention behind that cake,” Nwoba wrote.

Recall that the Nigerian government banned everything that’s associated with the defunct Biafra Republic after the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which is one of the foremost Igbo separatists agitating for a breakaway from the Nigerian State.

Since the prosecution of IPOB by the Nigerian government, anyone found with an item bearing Biafra insignia faces arrest and prosecution by the Nigerian government.

40-year-old slice of Charles and Diana’s wedding cake for sale

A slice of the Prince and Princess of Wales’s wedding cake is up for sale 40 years after Charles and Diana tied the knot.

The anniversary of their fairy-tale royal nuptials, when the heir to the British throne married shy 20-year-old Lady Diana Spencer in the grand St Paul’s Cathedral on July 29, 1981, falls on Thursday.

But their relationship did not last as they split 11 years later in 1992 and got divorced in 1996.

The large slice of cake icing and marzipan base from one of the 23 official wedding cakes features a sugared on lay of the Royal coat-of-arms coloured in gold, red, blue and silver.

It was given to Moyra Smith, a member of the Queen Mother’s household at Clarence House, who preserved the topping with cling film.

She kept it in an old floral cake tin and taped a handmade label to the lid, reading: “Handle with care Prince Charles & Princess Diane’s (sic) wedding cake,’’ which she signed and dated.

Smith’s family sold the cake in 2008 to a collector, but it has come up for auction once again, coinciding with the 40th wedding anniversary.

Chris Albury, auctioneer and senior valuer at Dominic Winter Auctioneers in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, said: “It appears to be in exactly the same good condition as when originally sold, but we advise against eating it.’
