Friends were, however, quick to point out to TheNewsGuru.com that the Speaker and his Chief Press Secretary have been close friends, a friendship which predates the Speakers high office.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Onofiok was first elected to the Akwa Ibom state legislature in April 2011. He was overwhelmingly reelected for a second term on April 11, 2015. On December 21, 2015, the 26-member Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly unanimously elected him as the 11th Speaker of the parliament.
