SAD! Man, 60, jailed 20-years for snuffing life out of his wife

An Accra High Court has sentenced a 60-year-old man, Doe Fiano, to 20 years in prison for fatally shooting his wife in the genitals at their home, an act committed in full view of their four-year-old son.

The woman, believed to be in her late 40s, died from her injuries shortly after the attack.

Prosecutors told the court that the incident, which occurred in their family residence, left the couple’s only child severely traumatized.

The accused was charged with murder before criminal court 5, presided over by Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie.

However, he entered a guilty plea to the lesser offence of manslaughter, a move accepted by the court, leading to his conviction on that charge.

During the sentencing phase, his defense counsel made a strong plea for leniency, requesting a five-year sentence.

The defense argued that the convict was a first-time offender, a respected member of society, and the primary breadwinner of the family.

It was also noted that he had already spent close to two years in custody while awaiting trial.

The prosecution, however, held firm in its call for justice, urging the court to impose a 30-year sentence. They emphasized the gruesome nature of the act, the vulnerability of the victim, and the devastating psychological toll on the couple’s young son, who remains deeply traumatized.

In delivering judgment, the presiding judge acknowledged the mitigating factors but stressed that the aggravating circumstances could not be ignored.

The case has once again raised concerns about domestic violence in the country and its long-term impact on children exposed to such traumatic events.

    Housewife reportedly kills co-wife’s baby

It was a sad moment for the family and the people of Malari when the Kaduna State Police Command arrested a woman identified as Zaliha Shuaibu for the alleged murder of her co-wife’s three-month-old baby boy in Malari Village, Soba Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the incident took place on May 13, 2025, at the home shared by the suspect, her husband, and the victim’s mother.

This was revealed on Friday in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, made available to journalists.

Hassan explained that Maryam Ibrahim, the co-wife of Shuaibu, had left her son alone in her room while she went to the bathroom.

Upon returning, she found the baby with the suspect.

When Shuaibu handed the child back to Ibrahim, the infant was found in an unusual state, with foam in his mouth and an injury on his neck, which eventually led to his death.

“According to preliminary investigations, the second wife, Maryam Ibrahim, had briefly stepped out to use the restroom, leaving her infant son in her room. “Upon her return, she found her co-wife, Zaliha holding the baby.

Zaliha handed the child back to Maryam, who immediately noticed foam coming out of the baby’s mouth and an injury on his neck.

“The child was crying, he was immediately rushed to the Village hospital , where he was unfortunately confirmed dead,” Hassan said.

The PPRO stated that following a thorough investigation, it was established that Shuaibu was responsible for the death, aided by a conspiracy involving her and her husband’s younger brother.

Following the incident, the DPO Soba swung into action and apprehended Zaliha Shuaibu, the accused person.

During interrogation, she confessed to the crime and revealed that she conspired with one Lawal Muhammad, the husband’s junior brother, who is currently at large, that he provided her with the acid used to commit the act,” Hassan said.

The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, in the statement, assured the public that justice will be served and that all suspects involved in the crime will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Ooni of Ife used my former wife against me – Oluwo

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has accused the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, of using his ex-wife against him and plotting his downfall.

Oluwo, in a statement on Friday night, alleged that Oba Ogunwusi was seeking his downfall despite playing a prominent role in his emergence as the Ooni of Ife.

He stated that the link he used for Oba Ogunwusi would have been used for his elder brother, Tunji Adeyeye, who was his friend and peer at Akobo, Ibadan at a tender age.

Oluwo recalled how he arranged several meetings in Ibadan after one Akin Daodu, then a close ally of Oba Ogunwusi, begged for his intervention.

He said: “To my surprise, the same person I helped to the throne has been planning evil against me.

“He orchestrated my suspension from the Osun State Council of Obas meeting against the AIG who was a star witness to what transpired.

“He is using a few kings in Iwoland to destabilise my territory.

“He attacked me last month in the presence of the governor, that I am discouraging deity worship.

“He was one of those who used my former wife against me.

“He wants me to be removed as Oluwo by all means. Such is a dream that can never come true.

“No one can remove me as Oluwo. No one can kill me and no one can bring me down.

“He should keep trying. He will be the one to live to regret. His cohorts that tried it in the past failed.”

However, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi, speaking through his Director of Media, Otunba Moses Olafare, denied the allegations raised by Oluwo.

He said: “Oba Adeyeye has been ordained as a king from heaven, regardless of who does what. He is a king with God on his side.

“When Oluwo wanted to be king, Ooni supported him with cash and other logistics that we can’t even mention here.

“At the last Council of Oba meeting, Ooni only jokingly told Oluwo that he should not condemn any monarch for worshipping deities but should allow anyone to practice anything they feel is good for them.”

  • Beautiful wife wahala – By Francis Ewherido

Beautiful wife wahala – By Francis Ewherido

Many men desire to marry a beautiful woman. Why not? But they say beauty is contextual and in the eyes of the beholder. True, but some are very clear. There is nothing like “contextual” and “in the eyes of the beholder.” My 97-year-old aunt, my father’s cousin, Mama Theresa Dafiaghor, was one of such beauties. As far back as 1970, when I was a little boy, I knew Mama Theresa was stunningly beautiful. Until she died last December, she remained a beauty to behold. In fact, I was teasing Julie, her daughter, the last time I saw Mama Theresa that we needed to give her out in marriage again and collect fresh bride price.

However, marrying a beautiful woman goes with concomitant wahala (trouble). Other men can’t take their eyes off her. She looks like a public property in their eyes. Every man wants to have a piece of her. I had an older friend. His wife was a stay-at-home wife. She kept piling pressure on the husband that she wanted to do business. Her business interest fell on one of my line of businesses then. The husband called me and told me to partner with her. I readily agreed because it meant the husband would use his influence to get us more businesses. But I did not bargain for the pressure that would come with it. The first day we went out, all eyes were on her. I got curious and looked back at every man who passed as we walked on the road. They always turned back to look at her. She is very beautiful, attractive and glows. I guess glowing added to the attention she got. This continued and at a point I started getting apprehensive. I prayed that there should be no incident because I felt an obligation to protect her. The husband entrusted her to me and I felt I had a duty to defend her. At the same time, I did not want to put myself in harm’s way. How does this man cope with so many men ogling at his wife, I wondered!

On one particular day, she rushed into my reception and hid in my office: “This man dey pursue me since,” she blurted out as she was rushing into my office. Shortly after, a sturdy man came in. He was short and well built. He pretended to be inspecting our products on display. I looked at his shoes, belt, trousers and shirt and I said to myself that this man is very rich. We catered for middle level working class people then, not his type. When he was leaving, I followed him outside. He came with the latest Mercedes Benz coupe. After he left, our security guard gave me a complimentary card he left for my friend’s wife. I warned her to destroy the card at once and not even look at it. From what she told me. The man saw her in traffic at Ikoyi and pursued her all the way to Obanikoro. For those who live in Lagos, on a good day when traffic is free, that is like a 30-minute journey because Third Mainland Bridge alone is 10.8 kilometers. On a bad day, that distance can take three hours to cover. Anyway, when our business collaboration ended, I was relieved, but I kept wondering how my friend was coping. Men could never get their eyes off her throughout.

That was before I got married. For someone who liked beautiful women from an early age, it was inevitable I would get married to one. I have had my own baptism of fire since after marriage. I shared the same office building but different offices with my wife for over 20 years. Some men came as clients, but their target was my wife. Patronage stopped abruptly when they didn’t get what they wanted. We worked late one day and the staff had closed. But I needed to quickly go home and attend to my children who were young then. My wife told me in Urhobo that I should not leave her alone with the client, a lawyer, who made us to work late because “his eyes are not good” and it was obvious. After that incident, my respect for him evaporated. His patronage also stopped. Some guys are very disrespectful. They have zero dick control.

I demoted someone from a friend to an acquaintance. He came visiting. As I was talking to him, I noticed that he was distracted. I decided to follow his gaze. My wife was climbing upstairs and his eyes were following her as she was climbing. That was one of the reasons why I covered my staircase. My visitors reading now know it’s not just for aesthetics. I can go on and on. I discussed another incident with someone close to me. He asked, “why didn’t you break his head?” How may heads will you break? Your business is with your wife. You expect her to be disciplined and faithful. PERIOD.

Any young man planning to marry a beautiful wife must know what he is up against. Other men will definitely be interested in your wife and make passes at her. Can your wife withstand the pressure? Will she stay faithful? Can you trust her? Is infidelity “sin against the Holy Spirit to you (I use it to depict an infraction you cannot forgive)?” You must answer these questions before you go ahead. There are other questions, but the listed ones are enough for now. I am a conservative Urhobo man with some Isoko blood. Our wives should behave the way majority of our mothers and forebears behaved.

I actually wrote this article a year ago and archived it. I never knew I would revisit it. In fact, I wanted to delete it five days ago. Then I listened to the interview of the former Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe on the Akpabio/Uduaghan saga. Ogunseye said “the beauty of Distinguished Senator Natasha (Akpoti-Uduaghan) is a problem to her.” Aha! It tallies with today’s title. When this matter started, the issue was sexual harassment. But the senate came up on Monday with a statement that the issue is “gross misconduct.” The senate and the senate president have had some missteps since this matter started. As someone with some knowledge of crisis management, I will advise them to publicly zip up their mouths, retreat and do deep introspection. This column is on marriage and family, so I can’t go into details, but seeking peace is better than a pyrrhic victory or winning a battle and losing the war.

Some traducers of Senator Natasha are on the offensive. No problem, she can deal with the various issues raised against her, but I disagree with those who said that she is not beautiful, that she only seems so because she is light skinned. You can hate people but give them their flowers. As someone who could spot a beautiful woman since an early age, Senator Natasha is a very beautiful woman. I have never met her physically, but her beauty reflects in her photos and her television appearances.

Angry wife destroys maize farm after she caught husband pants down with mistress in it

A woman from Malawi has reportedly destroyed her family’s entire maize farm after she caught her husband pants down in the farm.

This happened when the wife visited her field to fetch vegetables and unexpectedly found her husband in a compromising situation with his mistress.

Upon being caught red-handed, the husband and the mistress quickly fled the scene, leaving the wife alone in the field. Overcome with shock and anger, the wife is said to have grabbed a slasher and began cutting down the maize crop in a fit of rage.

An eyewitness, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, described the wife’s actions as frantic and uncontrollable.

“She was slashing at the maize like it was her enemy. We tried to stop her, but she wouldn’t listen,” the witness said.

By the time the wife stopped, the entire field had been destroyed, leaving nothing but a trail of ruined crops.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions in the Dedza community, with some sympathizing with the wife’s emotional distress while others expressed concern over the loss of the maize crop, which was likely a vital source of food and income for the family.

Local authorities have yet to comment on whether any legal action will be taken.
