    Wife slumps, dies after husband tested positive for Covid-19

    A woman has slumped and died in Ughelli, Delta State, on hearing that her husband tested positive for COVID-19.

    The tragedy, which happened at Igho Salami Street, Uloho Avenue in Ughelli, has since thrown the entire neighbourhood into mourning.

    It was gathered that the deceased, Mrs Oregbe, was at home on Monday when the news of her husband’s sample result came out that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

    Mrs. Oregbe, sources said, had been managing high blood pressure prior to the incident.

    It was learnt that as soon as she was informed that her husband tested positive, she slumped and died before they could rush her to the hospital.

    “I’m sure she has been managing high blood pressure before now,” a source claimed.

    When journalists visited the home of the Oregbes in Ughelli on Wednesday, mourners were seen discussing the sad incident in hushed tones.

    The police in Lagos have begun investigation into the alleged murder of a woman by her husband, Femi, who also allegedly killed himself.

     

    The event occurred at their Victory Park Estate, Lekki residence where the couple and their young children moved into about three weeks ago.

     

    It was gathered that the man allegedly bound his wife, sealed her mouth, shaved her hair and stabbed multiple times with different knives on the head and eyes.

     

     

    He thereafter, ingested poisonous substances suspected to be pesticides.

     

    Confirming the incident to newsmen, police spokesman Bala Elkana said homicide detectives have sealed up the place.

     

    He said: “They have commenced investigation. The corpse of the man and the woman have been moved to the hospital for an autopsy.

     

    “Two kitchen knives were found there and two bottles of insecticides. The woman had injuries from stabbing while foams were coming out of the man’s mouth who is suspected to have drank the insecticides.

     

    “That is the much I can tell you for now. I am in a meeting but will issue a statement after the meeting.”

     

     

     

    According to preliminary reports, the couple was spotted jogging on Saturday night.

     

    They were alleged to have had disagreements over the paternity of their youngest child.

     

    Neighbours were said to have heard loud music from their apartment which lasted several hours prompted some of them to report noise pollution at the estate office.

     

    The distressed neighbours were said to have demanded that the estate managers caution the couple which they agreed to.

     

    On arrival at the apartment, the officials were said to have met the woman’s sister and her kids downstairs and explained their mission. She was said to have immediately gone upstairs to tell her sister but several knocks on the door were not responded to.

     

    After her failed attempt, the estate officials decided to pull down the door and that was how they saw their bodies.

    Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of Trinity House, on Sunday, ministered at a funeral service on the same day he lost his wife.

    Speaking at the burial ceremony of 24 years old, Ayodeji Modupe-Johnson, Ighodalo stressed that life is full of mystery and no one has control over it.

    The deceased, Ayodeji Modupe-Johnson was born on August 1, 1995 and passed away on June 12, 2020.

    He also gave a hint on the death of his wife, saying ‘if anyone told me today would have been the way it is, I would say it is not possible’

    His words at Ayodeji’s funeral service: “Life is a deep mystery, there is no one human being, no matter how wise they are, who can say they fully understand life. Let us accept life’s mystery. We don’t have control over most things in life, how you were born, your height, race, who gave birth to you, complexion, Nobody has control over life…this time yesterday…”

  • PSC Chair, Musiliu Smith loses wife, for burial today

    The Chairman, Nigeria Police Service Commission, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, has lost his wife.

    Alhaja Ariat Aderoju Smith died on Friday.

    She was 69.

    A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos State Governor, Gboyega Akosile, said the burial of Alhaja Smith will be done today (Saturday) in accordance with islamic rites.

    According to the statement, only immediate family members will be allowed at the burial rites, in strict compliance with the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC)/Lagos State Government’s guidelines on COVID-19 social distancing protocol.

    “Lagos State Government, on behalf of the Smith family, wishes to announce the passage of our mother and grandmother, Alhaja Ariat Aderoju Smith (nee Jinadu) who died on Friday at the age of 69.

    “The deceased is survived by her husband, Alhaji Musiliu A.K. Smith, former Inspector-General of Police (IGP)/and Chairman, Nigeria Police Service Commission, children – Mr. Mujeed Adekunle Smith and Mrs. Atiat Olubunmi Sheidu. May Allah grant her Aljanah Firdaus,” the statement read.

    Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s wife, Hadiza El-Rufai, has said although she’s married to the Kaduna State governor, she has nothing to do with the title ‘First Lady’.

    Hadiza, who is active on social media, tweeted this to her over 80,000 Twitter followers on Thursday.

    The governor’s wife indicated that although she is married to a politician, she preferred a simple lifestyle.

    “I don’t tweet about serious matters like governance and politics. Though I’m married to a governor, I’m not a part of government. I swore no oath,” she added.

    An 86 year-old former Director General of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), Mr. T.C. Okere has allegedly stabbed his wife to death.

    The deceased, 77, was a retiree of the Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo.

    According to reports, the incident occurred Monday morning, in Imerienwe community, in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.

    Details of the incident remained sketchy as of the time of filing this report, but the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu confirmed the incident, but could not give further details.

    According to Ikeokwu, Police will soon commence investigations into the unfortunate incident.

    However, some villagers affirm that the man was suffering from ‘advanced dementia’.

    According to family sources, he did not know that he had killed his wife.

    One of the sources said, “He (Pa Okere) was having advanced dementia and everyone within the village knows his health condition. He didn’t know that he had killed his wife because when he was asked about her, he said she was sleeping.

    “We took him to the hospital; they said we should come after the pandemic. So we couldn’t take him to the hospital because of this Coronavirus. You know how hospitals react to cases like this”.

    An 18-year-old wife, Salman Hassan, from Itas Gadau in Bauchi State, has narrated how she stabbed her husband, Mohammed Mustapha, to death over sex, just 11 days after their wedding.

    Speaking with journalists in Bauchi on Thursday during her parade alongside other suspects, Salma said she stabbed her husband in the chest because he insisted on sleeping with her.

    Salman stated, “We were married and we loved each other. After 11 days of our marriage, he came to sleep with me but I refused. He hit me and I took a knife and stabbed him. I never meant to kill him. I only wanted to threaten him. It was a small stab and I did not know he would die.

    “I am in great pain. I am in bitter. I don’t know what will happen to me.”

    The Commissioner of Police in the state, Phillip Maku, stated that Salman committed the crime on April 24, 2020.

    He said one Hauna Musa reported the incident at the Itas-Gadau Police Division after which the suspect was arrested.

    Maku said Mustapha sustained serious injury and was rushed to the General Hospital, Itas-Gadau, for treatment, where he was confirmed dead.

    “The suspect was arrested and she confessed to the crime. Exhibit recovered from the suspect was a knife,” the CP added.

    President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with former Chief of General Staff, retired Lt.-Gen. Oladipo Diya, over the passing of his wife, Deborah Folashade Diya, praying that the almighty God will comfort the family.

    The President’s condolence message was released by Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in Abuja on Wednesday.

    President Buhari joined family members, friends, and associates of Chief Folashade Diya, particularly members of the United African Methodist (Evangelical) Church, in mourning the devout Christian.

    The President noted that the deceased dedicated her time on earth to serving God, and working for the good of others.

    He affirmed that the wife of the former Chief of General Staff lived to encourage and inspire many on faith in God, “demonstrating love, kindness and generosity through focus on helping the underprivileged, and counselling many.’’

    The President prayed that the soul of the departed would find rest in God.

    Former Chief of Staff, Lt. General Oladipo Diya’s wife, Mrs. Folashade Diya, has died, five days to her 66th birthday.

    According to a press statement released by Olawale Adekoya, Special Adviser (Media & Strategy) to Gen Diya, the late Mrs. Diya died on Monday.

    The statement reads in part: “With grief in our hearts but gratitude to Almighty God, we announce the transition onto eternal glory of Chief Mrs Deborah Folashade Diya (JP), wife of His Excellency, Lt. Gen. Oladipo Diya (rtd); whose death occurred on Monday, May 18, 2020. She was aged 66.

    “Madam Deborah Folashade Diya was preparing and looking forward to her 66th birthday celebration on May 23rd 2020 (this week).

    “But as man proposes, God disposes; six days ago, she took ill and was taken to the hospital, where she took her last breath on Monday, May 18.

    “Otunba Folashade Deborah Diya dedicated her life to the emancipation of humanity and service of the Almighty God.

    “She was a devout Christian, a loyal and dedicated wife, a loving mother, an alluring grandmother and a passionate chorister at United African Methodist (Evangelical) Church, Abule Ijesha, Yaba, Lagos. She was a chorister who sang and danced for the Lord all the way.

    “Fondly called Mumsie, Chief (Mrs) D.F. Diya was a model of love, compassion and generosity until her very last moments. Her mission was one that made a great difference in the lives of many people.

    “She was a silent operator who always made things work out positively: disciplined, focused, and straight forward.
    “In spite of her privileged position as the wife of a former Military Vice President in the country, she didn’t live the life of celebrity or ostentation. Rather, she adopted a humble life of dedication to God.”
