  • Police arrest Lagos traditional ruler for allegedly crushing wife to death with Jeep

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a traditional ruler identified as Taibu Ogunbanjo in Ise Town in Ibeju Lekki area of the state for allegedly crushing his wife to death with his Jeep.

The baale runs a block-moulding factory at Folu, a community in Ibeju Lekki.

According to a report by The Punch, the baale and his wife, Rotimi Ogunbanjo, got married three years ago, but the marriage had been fraught with misunderstanding and fights.

On Thursday, December 7, 2017, the couple reportedly had a disagreement. After the altercation, Rotimi was said to have gone to the baale’s factory and damaged some blocks on the premises.

Taibu reportedly entered his Toyota Highlander, and was driving out of the premises in anger when he knocked down his wife.

A community leader, who identified himself simply as Akinsipe, said the wife died on the spot, adding that the corpse had been deposited at the Epe General Hospital.

He said, “He (Taibu) is the baale of the community. He and his wife had been having issues since they got married. I did not know what actually happened between them on that day, but I learnt that they had a disagreement in the morning.

“She went to his block factory and destroyed some blocks arranged on the premises. He entered his vehicle angrily and as he was driving out of the premises, the wife tried to stop him. He hit her and she died on the spot.”

Akinsipe stated that the matter was reported at the Akodo Police Station, adding that the baale had been arrested.

A police source confided in newsmen that the suspect’s family reported at the police station that the death resulted from an accident.

The source said, “The baale and the woman got married three years ago without a child and they had been having disagreements. On that particular day, she destroyed some blocks at the industry. The man became angry and as he was driving out, he crushed her with his vehicle on the factory premises.

“The relations of the suspect have said that it was a case of an accident. But looking at the circumstances surrounding the incident, the accident claim is untenable.

“He could not have lost control of the vehicle on the premises as a result of speeding. There is a limit to the speed the car can go on the premises.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, who confirmed Rotimi’s death, said the command would investigate the matter to unravel the motive behind the baale’s action.

He said, “We are investigating the matter to find out what transpired between the man and his wife before the incident happened. They were having family issues, which led the woman to the block industry to destroy things.

“We want to know whether what the man did was a reaction to what his wife did. We believe there is more to the ‘accident’ than meets the eye because there was an altercation between them before the incident occured.”

The PPRO added that the case had been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

  • Alleged kidnapper of CBN governor’s wife dies in Police custody

A suspect, Umar Abubakar, who, in September 2016, allegedly led four others to kidnap Margaret, the wife of the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has died in police custody.

Abubakar, also known as Kerewa, was said to have died due to the injuries he sustained during a gun duel with policemen in his bid to evade arrest last year.

The deceased as well as Mohammed Yusuf, Edwin George, Musa Maidabara, and Ernest Uduefe, was to be arraigned before Justice Babatunde Quadri of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday.

But the arraignment could not proceed due to Abubakar’s death, which the lead prosecuting counsel, Mr. Aminu Alilu, announced to the judge during the proceedings.

Alilu of the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, said, “This charge was filed on October 7, 2017, but on October 24, we were informed of the demise of the first accused who died as a result of injuries he sustained while in the course of exchanging gunfire with the police.”

Justice Quadri directed Alilu, an Assistant Chief State Counsel in the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, to amend the charges to reflect the new set of defendants.

He then adjourned until December 14 for the arraignment of the surviving defendants.

In the five counts filed against the defendants, the prosecution alleged that the late Abubakar and the four other defendants took hostage of Margaret along with others in her entourage – Odion Anthony, Ngozi Omoile, Uju Anthony and Gladys Omoile – at Ugoneki village, along the Benin/Asaba Expressway on September 28, 2016.

The AGF filed five counts under the Terrorism (Prevention) (Amendment) Act 2013 against the alleged kidnappers.

The defendants were said to have demanded N100m ransom from the victims’ family members, but upon negotiation, reduced the ransom to N80m, which they allegedly took before releasing the victims.

All the five defendants were named in counts one to three which have to do with conspiracy and hostage taking.

But the trio of George, Maidabara, and Uduefe, were accused in count four of aiding and abetting the act of hostage taking.

  • I don’t want lack of sex to be a problem in my marriage- Oritsefemi

Afropop singer, Oritsefemi has said lack of sex destroys marriages and he doesn’t want it to destroy his marriage. Many were shocked when the wedding pictures of the singer went viral. No one saw it coming.

The Ajegunle born singer known for his high pitched voice has however opened up on the importance of sex in a marriage.

Hear him: “Marriage is something that you have to be very diplomatic about. You have to be very careful and know what you are doing because it has its ups and downs. No marriage is perfect. Some people think that marriage is all about money but it is not. It takes God and the couple to understand each other. Some people talk about cheating in marriage and that is why I sang in my song, ‘Igbeyawo,’ that women should not starve their husband of sex. If you do that, it would bring problems in your home. I don’t want lack of sex to be a problem in my marriage.

“Any time my wife wants to have sex, I would always give it to her, at any time.Sex should not be the problem. Money could cause problems but don’t let sex be the problem. Get close to your wife and try to understand when she needs it. As a wife, you also need to know when your husband needs to have sex. It pains me when I hear that lack of sex is the cause of some people’s marital crisis. I would rather hear a woman say that she wants her husband to work harder.”

  • Photos: Parents fly to US from India to beat their son’s wife for being disobedient

A man’s parents flew out to Florida from their native India to help their son beat his wife for being disobedient, police say.

The woman was rescued by Florida authorities after they received a call from India that she was being beaten and held against her will by her husband and his parents.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said 33-year-old Silky Gaind called her parents in India on Saturday to tell them of the abuse. They then called authorities.

When a deputy arrived, no one responded to repeated knocks. Then Gaind attempted to open the door and screamed for him to help her and her 1-year-old daughter. The deputy forced his way in and found Gaind severely bruised.

Investigators say 33-year-old Devbir Kalsi told his parents he needed help with a disobedient wife, and they traveled from India and participated in the beatings.

It escalated on Friday, when Devbir and his wife got into an argument.

The arrest report states that Kalsi struck her ‘repeatedly and forcefully’, and when Gaind attempted to defend herself, his parents began hitting her too, leaving bruises on her face, neck and torso.

Gaind’s young daughter, who was in her arms during the attack, was also struck in the face.

Kalsi then allegedly held a kitchen knife to her throat and threatened to stab her.

‘Awful, nobody should go through that,’ an unidentified neighbor told Fox 13. ‘It really is heartbreaking. There’s a brand new baby. But who beats their wife up and his mother and dad help him? Who does that?’

Kalsi in his parents were being held in jail. It was unknown if they have a lawyer.
