  • Court rejects deposed Baale’s bail application, orders him to remain in prison with wife

An Ikeja High Court on Tuesday dismissed an application filed by the deposed Baale of Shangisha, Mutiu Ogundare, seeking to vary his bail conditions.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Ogundare had filed the application alongside his wife, Abolanle and Mohammed Babatunde.

During the proceedings on Tuesday, Ogundare’s counsel, Chief H. N. Ogirien, requested that the court should reduce some of the bail conditions, especially the requirement of a surety, who is a Grade Level 17 officer in the Lagos State Civil Service.

“My Lord, we are unable to secure a Grade Level 17 officer in the Lagos State Civil Service, no one is willing to come forward and stand as surety.

“We also have difficulty getting a traditional ruler to stand as surety, we are simply asking the court to review the bail conditions to enable the defendant to easily perfect the bail conditions,” Ogirien said.

Shedding more light on Ogundare’s predicament, Ogirien said “This situation is peculiar because a man and his wife are both incarcerated.

“They have young children who are dependent on them the children are of nursery, primary and secondary school ages, who are solely dependent on them and they have no one taking care of them.”

Responding to Ogirien’s request, the vacation judge, Justice Oshodi asked why the application was not presented before the magistrate court which is a lower court where the bail of the Baale was initially granted.

“He is a traditional ruler, so I am wondering why none of his fellow traditional rulers can stand as a surety for him.

“Are you saying that there are no traditional rulers within the jurisdiction that cannot stand for him?” the judge qerried.

The judge thereafter dismissed the application of the embattled former traditional ruler.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode had on July 16 deposed Ogundare for faking his own kidnap in a bid to allegedly blackmail the Lagos State Government.

Ogundare’s “abduction” reportedly took place on July 5 along the Centre for Management Development (CMD) Road in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area of the state.

His wife, Abolanle and Babatunde were alleged to be accomplices in the kidnap plot.

On July 20, Magistrate T. Akanni of an Ogba Magistrates’ Court had granted the trio N2 million bail with two sureties each in like sum.

One of the sureties must be a traditional ruler, an individual with registered property in Lagos, a tax payer and a grade level 17 officer in the state public service.

The Chief Executive Officer and founder of Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg announced on Monday that his wife, Priscilla Chan, announced the birth of their second child, a baby girl named August.

Mark Zuckerberg expressed his happiness on his Facebook page.

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Monday that his wife, Priscilla Chan, has given birth to their second child, a baby girl named August.

Mark Zuckerberg expressed his happiness on his Facebook page in a letter he wrote to the new baby.

    Dear August,

Welcome to the world! Your mom and I are so excited to see who you will become.

When your sister was born, we wrote a letter about the world we hoped she and now you will grow up in — a world with better education, fewer diseases, stronger communities, and greater equality.

We wrote that with all the advances in science and technology, your generation should live dramatically better lives than ours, and we have a responsibility to do our part to make that happen. Even though headlines often focus on what’s wrong, we still believe these positive trends will win out. We’re optimists about your generation and the future.

But rather than write about growing up, we want to talk about childhood. The world can be a serious place. That’s why it’s important to make time to go outside and play.

You will be busy when you’re older, so I hope you take time to smell all the flowers and put all the leaves you want in your bucket now.

I hope you read your favorite Dr. Seuss books so many times you start inventing your own stories about the Vipper of Vipp. I hope you ride the carousel with Max until you’ve tamed every color horse. I hope you run as many laps around our living room and yard as you want. And then I hope you take a lot of naps. I hope you’re a great sleeper. And I hope even in your dreams you can feel how much we love you.

Childhood is magical. You only get to be a child once, so don’t spend it worrying too much about the future. You’ve got us for that, and we’ll do everything we possibly can to make sure the world is a better place for you and all children in your generation.

August, we love you so much and we’re so excited to go on this adventure with you. We wish you a life of joy, love and the same hope you give us.

    Love,

    Mom and Dad ”

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the couple had, four months ago, disclosed that they would be having a new addition.

Last week, Zuckerberg also announced that he would be taking time off work to attend to family matters.

I told the court that I’m not divorcing my wife but they went ahead and got an injunction against a High Court order. Why was she trying to walk out of her marriage? Who was advising her to divorce me? I must see to the end of this matter because they have put my children out there without a mother. Photos: Man, wife, two children found dead in their apartment in Kogi

A man identified as Segun Ayodele, his wife and two children were found dead in their Obajana apartment in Kogi State last Friday.

They were believed to have died in their sleep after reportedly inhaling fumes from a generator kept inside a toilet in their self-contained apartment.

The family of four was said to have been found lying lifeless in their apartment by Ayodele’s business partner who came to check on him when he failed to turn up in the office.

According to a report by The Punch, policemen from Obajana Division were alerted and after forcefully opening the door found the decomposing bodies.

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Wilson Inalegwu, told Northern City News on Tuesday that Ayodele had just moved into the apartment located in an isolated part of the area a few weeks ago.

The CP explained that the man who visited the family found the apartment locked and reported to the police after no one responded to repeated knocks on the door.

He said the police had commenced investigations into the unfortunate incident, adding that it was too early to identify the cause of death.

“The man and his family lived in an isolated area, he just packed into the house and his neighbours said they didn’t really know him well. It was quite unfortunate,” he said on the phone.

Another report, however, said the deceased family members were discovered by Ayodele’s cousin who had gone to check on them following his failure to respond to phone calls and text messages.

  • FRSC demands prosecution of Abia Speaker, wife, others over shooting of officials

Sequel to the recent shooting of some its officials, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, on Tuesday called for the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the fracas.

The Public Education Officer and spokesman of the Corps, Bisi Kazeem, made the call while reacting to the reported dismissal of a police corporal, Iroh Orji, over the incident.

Mr. Orji, who was an orderly to the Speaker of Abia House of Assembly, allegedly pulled the trigger on the FRSC officials at their duty post on July 15.

The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade, announced Mr. Orji’s dismissal from the Force on Monday, saying that he was found guilty of the offence during an orderly room trial.

Mr. Kazeem told newsmen in Abuja that the policeman’s dismissal was a welcomed development.

He, however, called for the criminal prosecution of Mr. Orji and others involved in the shooting, including the Speaker, his wife and an operative of the State Security Services, SSS.

He said “the corporal’s dismissal is a welcome development, which shows that the police have zero tolerance for acts of indiscipline and lawlessness among their men.

“But, we call on the police to institute criminal proceedings against him and others involved in the act of criminality against our men.

“We have made this demand in writing to the Director of DSS in Abia, who said he had made recommendation to headquarters for disciplinary action against the operative.

“The director said the recommendation had to be verified and approved by headquarters before action could be taken.’’

Mr. Kazeem said that FRSC had also written to the police command in the state seeking the arrest of the speaker, his wife and the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident.

The speaker, Chikwendu Kalu, is alleged to have ordered the shooting of the FRSC officials, but he has denied the allegation.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the incident occurred at Arungwa Junction (near Aba) on the Enugu-Port-Harcourt highway.

Mr. Kalu’s wife, Victoria, was said to be travelling to Aba when the FRSC men flagged down her vehicle and attempted to book her for seatbelt violation.

A heated argument ensued during which she allegedly pounced on the road safety officials with the help of a female SSS operative, who was travelling with her.

Witnesses said that the woman called her husband, who arrived at the scene and allegedly ordered his orderly to shoot the FRSC officials.

When the speaker visited the victims at the hospital the next day, he was said to have been denied access into the ward where the FRSC officials were receiving treatment.

One of the wounded officials said “I saw him at the scene. What if we had died, he would have come to see our corpses.”

But, the speaker blamed the incident on “over-zealousness’’ of the security officers involved.

“I strongly condemn any over-zealousness on the side of any security personnel, be it anyone, not to now talk of being the Police, FRSC, the Army and Department of State Services.

“I think I will be the last person to encourage it because it doesn’t augur well with state and the country at large,’’ he said.

Help! My wife gave birth to SS, I’m AA and she is AS – Man tells court

The Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, on Friday, dissolved a 21-year-old between one Idowu Iyanda and his wife Florence over the wife’s infidelity and alcoholism.

The President of the court, Mr Ademola Odunade, ruled that the marriage was dissolved due to irreconcilable differences between the couple.

“When wives refuse to keep to dos and don’ts binding a union, the result is usually tragic and bring about break up such as what is currently taking place.

“In the interest of peaceful coexistence, the union between Idowu and Florence has ceased to be henceforth.

“Custody of the four children produced by the union is granted to Idowu.

“Idowu shall pay N3,000 to Florence to enable her move out her property from the house,” the Arbitrator said.

Earlier, Idowu, a carpenter had told the court that his wife Florence, was an unrepentant prostitute and alcoholic.

“My lord, when I entered into the union with Florence in 1996, I never knew that I was making a very terrible mistake for choosing her as a life partner.

“She is never to be trusted for a single moment in terms of fidelity as Florence has made herself a public tap where all sorts of men of easy virtue fetch water.

“My lord, times without number, I have caught her with men and I have warned her against the adulterous act.

“For the sake of emphasis my lord, our fourth and last child is a sickle cell patient, my own Genotype is AA, Florence is AS, how did our last child become an SS.

“She poisoned the drinking water at home with the intention that I will drink it, but I got to know and refused to take the water,” Idowu said.

Florence, a hair dresser, who could not deny most of the allegations, however, pleaded with the court to save her marriage.

She said that she was not ready to part ways with Idowu because they both achieved greatness together.

“My lord, it is true that I consume alcohol, but it is only during cold weather.

“I wonder why Idowu is rejecting the paternity of our last child. I don’t know why he is an SS,” Florence said.

The couple resides at Alegun-Oleyo area of Ibadan.

  • Panic as man impregnates housemaid, strangles pregnant wife

The Plateau Police Command on Thursday confirmed the arrest of a 40-year-old man, Victor Dashit, who allegedly strangled his eight-month pregnant wife, Irene.

“Victor is in our custody and investigation is on-going. We shall soon take him to court,” its spokesman, Terna Tyopev, said.

He said that Dashit, a staff of the National Industrial Court, Jos who resides at New Abuja area of Jos, killed the wife, a 33-year-old teacher, at their farm in Kangang, on June 2.

It was gathered Dashit, after killing the woman, invited his brother to help him to convey her to the hospital. He had lied to his brother that she slumped few minutes after she complained of feeling dizzy.

A family source said that prior to the incident, the couple had faced lots of problems leading to persistent domestic violence.

He said that the situation got worse in May 2016, when the deceased caught her husband in bed with their house help, one Nora, in their home.

“The woman woke up one night sometime in May 2016 and did not see her husband on the bed.

“After combing the entire house, she peeped into the house help’s room and found her husband on her,” the source said.

He said that Irene sent the girl out of the house, but the girl came back two months later and told the husband that she was pregnant.

“Nora’s pregnancy aggravated the problems in their marriage; at a point, Irene fled to her parents’ house in Gindiri, but was persuaded to return to her husband’s house by their pastor.

“The pastor persuaded her to return in November 2016, after intervening in the quarrel. She became pregnant immediately.”

She said that Irene had two daughters, while the baby, a male, removed from her womb after she died, did not survive.

A source at the Air Force Military Hospital, Jos, where Irene’s corpse was taken, said that Dashit, who brought the wife on June 2, had claimed that she slumped and died after complaining of dizziness.

“The doctors confirmed her dead on arrival, but rushed her to the theatre for an emergency CS in a bid to save her unborn baby but brought out a dead child,” the source said.

Further investigation by the medics, however, revealed marks on her neck, which suggested that she was strangled.

“The doctors quickly reported the matter at the Anglo Jos police station, where Dashit owned up to strangling his wife,” he said.

Tyopev, while describing the incident as “unfortunate,” blamed the development on alleged infidelity, saying that Dashit had also confessed to impregnating his housemaid.

“He confessed to holding the woman by the neck, but said he did not intend to kill her,” he said.
