He runs away whenever I get pregnant, aggrieved wife tells court

A pregnant fashion designer, Fatimah Shodunke, on Friday told an Agege Customary Court in Lagos that her husband abandoned his matrimonial home whenever she was pregnant.

The 32-year-old mother of two, who resides on James Street, Ishaga, a Lagos suburb, made the allegation while responding to a divorce suit filed by her husband, Gbenga.

She also told the court that Gbenga wanted her to abort her second pregnancy but she refused.

“My refusal to abort my pregnancy made my husband to pack out of the house to an unknown destination without bothering about the welfare our first child and myself until l gave birth.

She added that Gbenga moved out of the house again in December, 2016, following her refusal to abort her third pregnancy.

Fatima submitted that Gbenga was irresponsible and kept beating her at the slightest provocation.

The respondent, however, prayed the court not to dissolve the six-year-old marriage for the sake of the children.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gbenga, a mechanic, had claimed in the suit that Fatimah was troublesome and had been threating his life.

He alleged that he moved out of his matrimonial home because Fatimah threatened to kill him with a knife.

The petitioner said that he was no longer interested in the union.

The Court President, Mr Phillip Williams, said that the court would do its best to save the marriage.

He adjourned the case until May 2 for further hearing.

  • Ahmed Musa ready to sue over wife beating reports

Ahmed Musa ready to sue over wife beating reports

Leicester and Nigerian forward,Ahmed Musa is considering legal action after his agent described reports that he was arrested for beating up his wife on her birthday as “inaccurate”.

The Nigeria international, who joined the Premier League champions last summer from CSKA Moscow for £16m, was questioned by Leicestershire police in the early hours of Wednesday morning after they were called to a disturbance at his home in Countesthorpe.

Musa was later released without charge and his agent has insisted reports of the 24-year-old’s arrest hours after he had wished his wife Jamila happy birthday on Instagram had been exaggerated.

“A row ensued between Musa and Jamila which drew the attention of neighbours and the police were notified,” said Tony Harris.

“The police duly spoke with Musa along with a couple of witnesses in the house and have since closed the matter with no further action whatsoever as there is no case to answer. No charges were brought against Musa or his wife.

“It’s normal for a couple to have a bit of a row now and again, however, Musa did not at any point hit his wife nor was he attacked by her. It was a mere domestic issue which has now been resolved and they are now talking again.”

Harris added: “Everyone knows Musa is a jolly good fellow. He doesn’t drink or smoke, doesn’t party and has never been in trouble with the police all his life. He couldn’t harm a fly.”

Musa is understood to be very upset about the reporting of the incident and has been in touch with his legal representatives to discuss potential action. A statement from Leicester on Thursday said that Musa would be asked to explain what happened when he is due back in for training on Friday.

“We are aware that Ahmed Musa has today [Wednesday] cooperated with a police inquiry relating to a disturbance in the early hours of this morning,” read the statement. “The inquiry has since been closed and no further action is to be taken. We see no reason for formal action internally, though Ahmed will be given the opportunity to discuss the matter with football management when the squad returns to training on Friday.”

Musa has not started a Premier League match for Leicester since the 3-0 defeat to Manchester United on 5 February having fallen down the pecking order under new manager Craig Shakespeare.

  • BREAKING: Court clears Justice Ademola, wife of corruption allegations

A Federal High Court, FHC, in Abuja has cleared Justice Adeniyi Ademola and his wife, Olabowale, of charges of corruption brought against them by the Attorney General of the Federation.

The court held that FG failed to prove any of the allegations it levelled against the embattled Judge who hitherto served at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court.

Consequently, trial Justice Jude Okeke, in a ruling that lasted over five hours, terminated further hearing on the criminal case, even as he discharged and acquitted all the defendants. Justice Okeke held that FG failed to establish that Ademola received gratifications from Agi to the tune of N38.5m, including a BMW Saloon 320i car gift.

FG had alleged that Justice Ademola got N30million from the senior lawyer through a Guarantee Trust Bank, GTB, account number 201/110160/1/1/0, operated by his wife who was the former Head of Service in Lagos State.

It alleged that Agi, SAN, had on January 5, 2015, purchased the car from Coscharis Motors Ltd on January 5, 2015, and handed it over to Ademola’s son, Ademide.

More so, the prosecution which closed its case against the defendants after it called a total of 19 witnesses, alleged that Justice Ademola was in possession of two prohibited firearms without valid licences.

However, all the defendants, through their respective lawyers, entered a no-case-submission, insisting that FG did not establish a prima-facie criminal case against them capable of persuading the court to compel them to enter their defence to the charge.

While upholding their no-case submission, Justice Okeke held that the prosecution could not link the N30million Mrs Ademola received from Agi, SAN, to any particular case being handled by her husband.

He also held that FG could not tender any evidence showing that the said N30m was at any time, transferred to any bank account that belongs to the 1st defendant (Ademola). “None of the witnesses identified or tendered evidence to show that N30m was paid into any bank account of the 1st defendant either by the 2nd or the 3rd defendants”.

Though Justice Okeke took cognisance of a statement the 3rd defendant made before the DSS, where he admitted that it was two of his clients that directed him to pay the N30m to Mrs Ademola as gift during her daughters wedding in April, 2015.

The Judge however noted that the lead investigator, PW-16, in his evidence-in-chief, said he could not establish any link between the monetary gift and any case that was handled by the 1st defendant.

According to Justice Okeke, the PW-16, who was reminded that President Muhammadu Buhari’s lawyer, Mr. Kola Awodehin, SAN, equally gave Justice Ademola N.5m gift during his daughter’s wedding, at a time Buhari’s certificate case was pending before his court, had stated that misinterpreting such gesture as gratification would amount to speculation.

“This court totally agrees with the PW-16 that taking the N30m gift the 3rd defendant paid into the account of the 2nd defendant as bribe will be speculative and no court can convict based on speculation.

“A court of law reckons with hardcore evidence placed before it and not on speculations as to why the payments were made”, the Judge added. He held that the prosecution failed to discharge the burden of proof placed upon it by the law

It will be recalled that Justice Ademola who is a grandson to a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, was among seven superior court Judges that were arrested after a sting operation the Department of State Service, DSS, conducted between October 7 and 8, 2016. The National Judicial Council, NJC, had asked him to temporarily step down from the bench pending determination of allegations FG raised against him.

Lagos hails court judgement sentencing man to death for killing wife

…says verdict is victory for fight against domestic violence

A Lagos High Court in Ikeja has sentenced a man, Sulaiman Olalekan to death by hanging for the murder of his wife, Mrs Chika Egbo on November 20, 2012 in a case of domestic violence.

The convict (Olalekan), on the fateful day, had poured acid on his Wife, having become overwhelmed by the fact that the deceased went back to prostitution against his best advice.

Trial judge, Justice Lawal Akapo, in his judgment, convicted Olalekan for the murder of his wife and sentenced him to death accordingly.

After the sad incidence which resulted in the eventual death of the victim, Chika, and in line with the zero tolerance posture of the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration on issues of domestic violence, the Lagos State Government through the State’s Ministry of Justice had taken over the prosecution of the case and filed necessary processes in court.

Olalekan reportedly met the deceased at Signal Hotel in Ijeshatedo area of Lagos State, where they started a relationship that resulted in marriage.

It was after the marriage that Olalekan bought her a second hand Volkswagen Bus and paid her school fees at the Enugu College of Education.

But the deceased reportedly reneged on her commitment to the relationship by returning to prostitution, which caused Olalekan to procure acid from a battery charger in Ikotun area of the State and deceitfully invited her to visit with his mother on the said day when he poured raw acid on the deceased.

The victim was admitted at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for emergency medical treatment, where she eventually died.

Justice Akapo, in arriving at his judgment, said he believed that the murder of Chika Egbo by Olalekan was premeditated.

The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Adeniji Kazeem, who was the lead prosecuting Counsel, in his reaction to the judgment, thanked the Court for a well-considered punishment.

He said: “Today’s judgment is a victory in our fight against domestic violence and a victory for domestic violence victims.”

Governor Ambode, it would be recalled, had pledged to make Lagos uncomfortable for perpetrators of domestic violence when he led an All-Male Walk against Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) late last year.

My wife beats me often…seperate us, husband begs court

An Ibadan based travel agent, Mr Oluwatimilehin Oyewole, on Friday begged a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan to dissolve his four-year-old marriage, to save him from constant beating by his wife.

Oluwatimilehin had in a petition to the court said that his wife, Kehinde usually slaps or mishandle him anytime they had disagreement.

“My lord, anytime I complain about Kehinde’s waywardness and lack of respect for me, she beats or attack me with any dangerous thing within her reach.

“Sometimes, Kehinde freely pulls my manhood as part of her attack on me.

“Most of the time, I run out of the house for her even in the midnight.

“However, it is not that she is more powerful than I am, but I am merely trying to avert bloodshed or casualty.

“I am most disturbed by the disposition of her mother who always supports her misbehaviour.

“Worst of all, Kehinde has exited my house for more than a year now and I have reports that she has been sleeping with different men around.

“I was told that if I admit her back into my house without her confessing to me all those who have had sexual intercourse with her, I might have to bear the evil consequence that should naturally befall her.

“This is the reason why I thought that I should let Kehinde go before she eventually kills me,” Oluwatimilehin stated.

The News Agency of Nigeria [NAN] reports that when the matter came up, Kehinde was not in court to defend the allegations leveled against her.

The bailiff, however, confirmed that Kehinde was served with the notice to appear before the court.

The President, Mr Ademola Odunade, adjourned the matter to March 15, for further hearing.

  • “My wife is comfortable with me kissing in movies- Ramsey Nouah

Nollywood hunk, Ramsey Nouah is an award winning actor known for his excellent role interpretations. The actor with a myriad of female admirers revealed that his wife is comfortable with him kissing in movies. He made this known in a recent interview.

In his words:”When some people ask me “how does your wife cope when she sees you kissing other women in the movie?” and I tell them that my wife is special.
She is not an ordinary woman. She understands things in a way many other women don’t. That is why I say, an actor or actress, has to find that special person. It is not love that will bond you. Forget love, love dies. What sustains the marriage is companionship. If you cannot find companionship in your partner from the beginning, then you do not have a partner.

He also advises singles on the qualities to look out for in a life partner.

“Don’t lust after a woman because of her beauty and don’t lust after a guy because he is handsome. You must lust after the companionship that bonds you together. It should be like “for some reasons you cannot do without her; for some reasons there is something about her that brings you home”.

“It may be her sense of humour; or the way she keeps the home. Same thing applies for the ladies; there must be something about him that you cannot do without. If this quality is not there, then you don’t have a companion.”
