He made his brother next of kin instead of me, aggrieved wife tells court

A housewife, Folasade Fayemi, on Friday urged a Customary Court at Agodi, Ibadan, to dissolve her three-year-old marriage, citing her husband’s decision to make his brother the next of kin.

Folasade also accused her husband, Temitope, of beating and harassing her.

“My Lord, my husband bought a plot of land and put the name of his sibling as the next of kin without considering me and my son, who is the only child of the marriage.

“He loves his siblings and mother more than me, always in close contact with his mother and hardly tells me about his movements.

“Worse still, he beats me always and does not care about my welfare; the court should separate us since he prefers his mother and siblings to me,“ she told the court.

The husband, however, denied all the allegations and pleaded with the court not to separate them, saying I still love her.”

Chief Mukaila Balogun, the President of the court, urged the parties to explore the possibility of reconciling, saying “the court is interested more in reconciliation and settlement of rifts between couple than dissolution.”.

He urged the husband to make the move for reconciliation and report back to the court.

The case has been adjourned to Feb 1.

  • MMM Nigeria initiator, wife flee abroad as new guidelines emerge

Chuddy Ugorji, the initiator of the Nigerian version of the Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox ponzi scheme, popularly known as MMM, has fled the country with his wife, Amaka.

Unconfirmed reports said the MMM Number one Guider has absconded and relocated to the Philippines.

Ugorji allegedly fled the country while many investors were awaiting anxiously to be paid back their money with the agreed interest.

His relocation came barely 24 hours after he released condition for the payment of some three million Nigerian investors.

He had given the impression that the Ponzi scheme had started paying outstanding mavro (money) to Mavrodians (participants of the scheme).

Meanwhile the scheme on Wednesday issued new guidelines on its blog.
Here are the new MMM guidelines:
    1. As a necessary measure, we decided to set limit to withdrawal this week thus the N31,000 maximum withdrawal on your PO.
    2. We are still committed to prioritise paying smaller amounts first and gradually increase the amount to higher ones.
    3. The system does the calculations and knows how to calculate everyone’s mavros.
    4. Between Friday that we opened and today, hundreds of thousands of GH orders have been matched.
    5. More and more GH orders will be matched as time goes on. If you see error notification when trying to GH, just keep trying.
    6. PH to GH is still a suggestion to be tabled before Sergey Mavrodi for consideration. Disregard any info suggesting that you must PH to GH till further announcement in your PO.
    7. Freezing of bonuses for now is another suggestion to be tabled before Sergey Mavrodi for his consideration. Which means if approved, you will only be able to GH your personal contributions for now until the system recovers and stabilizes.
    8. Another suggestion for consideration is whether Mavro growth should stop on the 30th day or continue till you GH your confirmed PH.
    9. How early the system recovers depend on our positivity. If we work to make it recover, it will recover in a very short time. Don’t spread panic.
    10. Let’s do more promo tasks to create further awareness that MMM Nigeria is open, working and paying.
    11. We will keep you informed of any updates as soon as possible.

  • Why should I have extramarital affairs?- Hafeez Oyetoro questions

Popular comic actor Hafeez Oyetoro a.k.a Saka is a talented actor whose delivery makes you stay glued to your TV screens. With him around you, it is difficult to get bored because he reels jokes upon jokes without batting an eye lid. One thing most people hardly know about him is that he spent four years of his degree programme in the Dramatic Arts Department of University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) undergoing speech therapy. In a recent interview with Punch, he spoke on how women seduced him in 2016 and why he cannot have extramarital affairs.

Hear him:”If you are a celebrity, women will always come to you. Most of the time, their intention is to seduce you. Well, in 2016, some of them tried to seduce me and to make me do certain things that I had sworn never to do when I got married. But, I thank God that I was able to resist them. It was not by my power; God gave me the grace to resist them,” he said.

When asked if he has ever had extramarital affairs, he said: “Why should I? My wife is young and very pretty. Besides, it is not in my character to be chasing women around,” he said.

On combining his full time career as a lecturer with acting, he said most filmmakers consider his schedule as a lecturer before featuring him in their movies.

“I am always in the movies, although I still teach in Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin, Lagos. Most producers consider my position as a lecturer in a tertiary institution before giving me a role to play in a movie. Then they work round my schedule. The fact that I teach theatre arts, which involves a lot of practical work, also gives me an advantage. I practice what I teach and I am not exactly an extrovert. I am so busy that I don’t have a social life any longer.”

  • Police arrest Naval rating for allegedly beating wife to death

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an official of the Western Naval Command, Apapa, Omojoye Ayodele, for allegedly beating his wife, Mary Egbailo to death.

The incident happened on Tuesday on Eze Anthony Street, in the Igando, Alimosho area of the state.

Ayodele, on the said day, had gone to bring back the wife from the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in the area, where she was said to have been since Sunday and immediately they entered their apartment, an argument reportedly ensued between them, which led to a fight.

According to the Punch, the 30-year-old suspect allegedly beat up the victim till she gave up the ghost.

The 29-year-old woman was however rushed to El Dunamis Hospital, a private medical centre in the area, where she was confirmed dead.

There are indications that the suspect, who hails from Ebute Irele, Ondo State is denying having a hand in his wife’s death.

He is claiming she took a local insecticide, Sniper and was also quoted to have said his wife had been abducted since Sunday when she went to church and was returned by the captors who discovered she was not useful for their money ritual.

But the landlady at their apartment where the incident happened is insisting that Egbailo did not take Sniper, but was a victim of domestic violence.

The landlady, who pleaded anonymity, was quoted as saying, “Ayodele has been assaulting his wife since 2016.

“On the morning of her death, Egbailo did not show any sign of depression. The man complained that for the past three days, his wife had been away from the house and gone to a church.

“Around 10am on Tuesday, both of them entered into the house. I guess he had just gone to pick her from church.

“It was not up to three minutes that I started hearing noise. I went to their apartment and asked the man what the problem was, but he pushed me away and kept hitting her. He dragged her on the floor, among other things.

“I ran out to call for help when the beating was excessive and as other residents approached the house to mediate, the suspect threw his wife into the gutter.

“I begged her to wait outside till her husband calm down, but she said she wanted him to kill her.

“She could not walk, so I decided to take her to a hospital. But nobody was willing to help me. If we had a vehicle on time, we would have probably saved her life.

“We were in front of my shop for about one hour, without any help. She was still talking to me before she passed out. The last request she made was that she needed palm oil,” she said.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the corpse had been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.

The PPRO said, “We received a report that a naval rating fought his wife and she slumped and was rushed to El Dunamis Hospital, where the doctors confirmed her dead.

“The corpse was deposited in the Mainland General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

“The case was reported at the Igando Police Division, leading to the arrest of Ayodele for allegedly beating the victim to death.

“The case is under investigation,” the PPRO added.

  • He removed my womb to stop me from having more children, aggrieved wife tells court

He removed my womb to stop me from having more children, aggrieved wife tells court

…he also impregnated my sister twice

A 55-year-old trader, Mrs Saidat Abu, on Thursday told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos that her husband was a flirt who impregnated her junior sister on two occasions.

She said this while responding to a suit filed by her husband, Momodu, alleging threat to his life by his wife.

Saidat, who alleged that her husband did not only commit adultery but incest, said:

“My husband was having an affair with my sister, he impregnated her and aborted the pregnancy on two occasions.

“I decided not to fight him in order to save my marriage.”

The mother of two also described her husband as a wicked and callous man.

“My husband took me to the hospital and connived with the doctor to remove my womb so that I will not be pregnant again.

“After destroying my womb, he is now telling me that he wants to marry another woman so that he can have a son that will inherit his property.

“He also told me he wants to sell our house so that he can settle our daughters and rent an apartment for me before he moves on with his life,” she said.

She, however, begged the court not to grant her husband’s request, saying she was still in love with him.

“Who will marry me now after my husband has destroyed my womb? Please do not grant his request, ” she said.

Her husband, a 60-year-old businessman, had approached the court to end his 33-year-old marriage over his wife’s alleged fetish act.

“My wife is fetish; I came back from work one day and discovered a portion in my compound was cemented.

“I was curious to know what was buried in the ground, so I called my people and we dug the ground and saw a charm buried there.

“My wife wanted to kill me so that she can inherit my property,” he said.

The petitioner presented as evidence pictures of the buried charm.

Momodu also said that his wife does not cook or wash his clothes.

“My wife cannot do any house chore; I am married but living like a single man, I can no longer tolerate her,” he said.

He further accused his wife of inscribing “This house is not for sale ” on the wall of his house without his consent.

The petitioner urged the court to terminate the marriage, saying he was fed up.

The court’s president, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, after listening to the couple, adjourned the case till Feb. 7 for further hearing.

  • Justice Ademola, wife to be arraigned Dec. 13

Justice Ademola, wife to be arraigned Dec. 13

Justice Adeniyi Ademola of Federal High Court and his wife, Olubowale Ademola, would be arraigned before Justice Jude Okeke of FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja, on Dec. 13.

They were arraigned by Federal Government on 11-count criminal conspiracy to receive gratification in various ways, contrary to Section 8(1)(a) of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.

Recall that Ademola was among the seven justices investigated after the sting operations carried out on Oct. 8 and Oct. 9, 2016 by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Mrs Ademola is currently the Lagos State Head of Service.

At the resumed sitting on the matter in Abuja on Monday, the Director of Public Prosecution, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr Mohammed Umar, told the FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja, that Mr Segun Jegede was authorised to lead the prosecution.

Umar said this was in line with the provisions of Section 104(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) (2015) and Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

Jegede told the court that the prosecution filed two charges, one on Nov. 14 and the second on Dec. 1.

He applied for the withdrawal of the 1st charge (Nov. 14 charge), saying that the charge dated Dec. 1 was the accepted one, which was the authorised one in line with the obligation as stipulated in the ACJA.

Jegede also told the court that the defendants were not served the process because the Bailiff attempt was not successful and was told that Ademola travelled to Lagos at that time.

He, therefore, applied to be given a date for adjournment and a leave to affect a substituted serve on the defendants through their counsel as provided in Section 382(5) of the ACJA).

Jegede informed the court that Section 390 provides minimum of seven working days before the date certified on the notice.

The counsel for the defendants, Mr Jeph Njikonye, did not oppose the applications, saying “we are prepared to accept the charges on behalf of the defendants.”

He said this could only be invoked as in Section 382(5) of ACJA where personal service was impossible or unpractical and urged the court to grant leave to the prosecution to serve through him.

He said the defendants would be in court at the next adjourned date.

The Judge, Justice Jude Okeke, after hearing the submissions of the counsel, granted the applications of the prosecution and adjourned the matter until Dec. 13 for arraignment.

Obey court order, release El-Zakzaky, wife now, Shiites tell FG

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites, have told the Federal Government to release their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky immediately, so he can get medical attention abroad.

This comes after a Federal High Court, ordered the government to release the cleric.

The court said Zakzaky should be released within 45 days and further awarded N50million to him and his wife.

A statement by their spokesman, Mallam Ibrahim Musa, said: “We are calling on the authorities holding Sheikh El-Zakzaky and his wife that they must expedite action to allow them access to their doctors, lawyers and any other person they so wish to see without hindrance.

They must also be allowed to go wherever they so wish as free people so that they can attend to their medical needs now that the court has set them free.”

Commending the court’s judgment, he stated: “The judge showed a full grasp of all the issues at stake when he said he views the whole matter as religious intolerance, where a majority Sunnah is oppressing a minority Shi’ah.

This case pertained to the issues of liberty, freedom and human rights of Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife. The landmark judgment obtained will however certainly impact on the numerous others presently ongoing as well as all other matters yet to be clarified such as the crime of mass grave that government officials disclosed earlier.”

He added: “It remains to be seen how the Nigerian government is going to react to this judgment. We are not unmindful of the penchant of this government to disregard court orders on spurious excuses. We will continue our peaceful and patient campaign until justice is done in its entirety.”

I went on sex strike to punish my stubborn wife – Man tells court

A sex-starved housewife, Sherifat Asimiyu, on Friday approached an Ibadan Customary Court sitting in Agodi to dissolve her 10-year-old marriage with Mr Saheed Asimiyu.

Sherifat told the court that apart from starving her of sex, Saheed was also in the habit of beating and biting her whenever they have domestic quarrels.

The complainant said she could no longer cope without sex, as her husband had not slept with her in the last six months.

She said: “There is no doubt about his ability to provide food, money and other material things for me and the two children of the union but I am not satisfied with all these without sex.

“He abandoned me deliberately, I cannot take it anymore because I am still young and I see no reason for his action.

“To make the issue worst, he was in the habit of beating and biting me whenever we have misunderstanding over minor issues.”

The husband, who is a motor spare parts dealer, admitted that he had starved his wife of sex, as he was on “sex strike” in the last one month, to punish the woman for her bad character.

According to him, his action is to punish the complainant and make her to turn a new leaf.

The husband told the court that he had warned her several times to stop associating with bad friends, but had ignored him.

Saheed also told the court that he would not prevent his wife from getting the divorce she asked for, “if that is what will make her satisfied”.

Chief Mukaila Balogun, the president of the court upheld the prayer of the woman and approved the dissolution of the marriage.

The judge ordered the defendant to be paying N6,000 to Sherifat as monthly allowance for the upkeep of their two children.
