Request to suspend prison term for ex-justice minister’s wife rejected

Prosecutors have rejected a request by former Justice Minister Cho Kuk’s wife to suspend the four-year prison sentence she got on charges of college admission fraud involving her daughter and financial misconduct.

    Officials said this on Thursday.

Chung Kyung-sim, a former professor of Dongyang University, has been serving time after receiving the prison sentence from the Supreme Court in January on charges including forging a presidential citation from her university and getting a false internship certificate to use for her daughter’s admission to a medical school in 2013.

The charges against her also included financial misconduct in violation of the Financial Investment Services and Capital Markets Act.

Chung filed a request to suspend her prison sentence early this month, saying she needs urgent medical operations for injuries she got from multiple falls inside the prison, including a ruptured disc.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office held a meeting earlier in the day to review the request.

My husband is too lazy, businesswoman tells court

A businesswoman, Tawakalitu Sanusi, has asked a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan to dissolve her 15-year-old marriage to her estranged husband, Olaide whom she described as ‘’too lazy.’’

Sanusi said she is further frustrated by her husband’s alleged ineptitude when he barred her from having access to their three children.

“My lord, Olaide stubbornly turned down all available job opportunities provided by my father due to his pride.

“After losing his white collar job, I pleaded with him times without number to learn a trade or get a lesser job, but he was only interested in an office work.

“For instance, I got him a security job at the University College Hospital (UCH), but he told me that he cannot withstand staying awake in the night.

“Also, my father got him a job as a driver, but Sanusi bluntly refused,” Sanusi said.

She said she attempted to travel to Saudi Arabia to work as a domestic so that she can provide for him and their children.

“In order to keep the home going, I travelled to Abuja and Lagos to hustle and I regularly send money to my husband and the children.

“However, he has now denied me access to the children. He threatened to kill me if I ever go to his house to see the children again,” she alleged.

Olaide denied some of the allegations leveled against him.

“My lord, my wife constantly accuses me of bringing bad luck to her.

”When she got a visa to travel to Saudi Arabia, I supported her with N100,000. She kept me in the dark, believing that I will bring her misfortune.

“She decided on her own that she was no longer interested in the marriage when she filed this suit,” Olaide said.

He consequently prayed the court to grant him custody of the three children.

After the couple testified, the court’s President, Mrs S.M Akintayo adjourned the matter until Sept. 30 for judgment.

Akintayo, however, advised the petitioner and the respondent to maintain peace and order.

My husband spread charm on bed to kill me – Wife alleges

A businesswoman, Maria Yakubu, on Friday dragged her husband, Gana Yakubu, to a Customary Court sitting in Nyanya, for allegedly spreading charm on her bed.

The petitioner said this in a divorce petition she filed against her husband at the court.

“Since we finished building our new house and moved in, I and my husband started having misunderstanding, whenever I come back home, it’s always one problem or the other.

“Sometimes my husband will come home with another woman. Just to get me angry, I never reacted, it was not easy but I kept trying not to react.

“On one faithful day, I came back home and entered my room, and saw charm on my bed, I confronted my husband and he denied, then I involved the police. My husband later confessed that he was the one that spread the charm.”

The petitioner further begged the court to grant her divorce, saying: “I don’t want to die in this marriage.”

The presiding judge, Shitta Abdullahi, however, adjourned the matter until Aug. 8 for defense

My wife’s adulterous lifestyle is upsetting me – Cleric

A cleric, Alhaji Lukman Shittu, prayed a Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, to grant him divorce because his wife’s adulterous lifestyle was upsetting him.

Shittu, who has been married to Fisayo for 20 years,, said he no longer loves his wife.

‘My wife started driving a car soon after she moved out of our home. She told lies that her relative gave her the car but my investigations revealed that the same man who had all along been sleeping with her bought her the car.

“My lord, Fisayo started misbehaving when things became difficult for me and I was unable to give her money to rent a shop.

“She started coming home late. She decided to take the three children from my house. And changed the school of the last child without my knowledge and the other two have vowed not to recognise me as their father anymore.

“During the last Ramadan, I invited the second one to live with me, but he turned down my offer.

”Mr Lord, do you believe that Fisayo’s lover worships in the same mosque where I am cleric?,” Shittu lamented.

Earlier, Fisayo, the petitioner who lived at Odo ona Ewe area of Ibadan contended that her husband was irresponsible and threatens her.

“Shittu deceived me into getting a loan from a micro-finance bank under the agreement that I will use it to establish my business.

“Unknowingly, I was facilitating his adulterous intentions. Shittu frequently brings difference types of women into our matrimonial home.

“In addition, Shittu demolished the shop which I furnished with my money in order to deny me any means of sustenance.

Delivering judgment, the President of the Court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo pronounced the marriage dissolved citing lack of love for the dissolution.

Akintayo held that there was no point keeping Shittu and Fisayo together since both have agreed to part ways.

“In the interest of peace, the customary marriage between Shittu and fisayo ceases to be henceforth.

“Custody of the three children is granted to Fisayo. Shittu must not be denied access to his children

“He must pay a monthly feeding allowance of N30,000 for the children’s upkeep starting from July 2022,” Akintayo said.

The court’s president also granted an order restraining Shittu from harassing, intimidating and interfering with the personal life of the petitioner.
