Wike lauds Nigerians for returning power to south

Governor Nyesome Wike of Rivers State has lauded Nigerians for voting in support of the power shift to the south during last Saturday’s presidential election.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain insisted that the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is the best for the country at this crucial time.

Wike also said all political deal and alliances with any other political parties in the country had ended with the presidential election. He charged members of the party to remain focused and vote for the umbrella party in the forthcoming governorship elections.

Wike gave the charge on Friday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital when he joined his Oyo State counterpart, Governor Seyi Makinde in the commissioning of Aviation Fuel Depot and Dr. Omololu Olunloyo 3.2km airport road dualisation.

Speaking, the Rivers State governor who did not state in clear terms whatever arrangement that might have existed between his PDP co-governors christened the Integrity Governors, with either the APC or Labour Party, charged the voters in the state not to think anything other than the umbrella party across all positions in the March 11, governorship elections. He commended Makinde alongside other Nigerians for standing right for what is right in the defence of the unity of the country.

“You can only belong to G5, stand your feet on the ground because you know what they are doing. It is only those who are afraid, who have nothing to offer that cannot stand firm, be bold and take a decision and say we must put things right no matter who is involved.
“Your governor (Makinde) has shown that he is a man you can depend on; he has shown that he is a man that will not tolerate complete slavery. I am happy he is one of those that have made history by making sure power shifts to the South,” he said.

Speaking on the project and lauding Makinde for the effort, Wike said: “You cannot be spending state money on Federal Government project and still allow the FG to give direction or instruction. Tell the FG to refund the monies he has been spending on the airport or he hands off and hand over the airport to them. And that is what we are talking about, true federalism. Restructuring, that is the way. This is historic as in it is the first day that aircraft can load fuel here and continue their journey.

“One good turn deserves another. If he can perform this way in his first term, what then do you think he will do in his second term, he will over perform than us. He will over perform and that is what we told him, as the youth leader of the G5 and we are looking forward to handing over power to him, as we are retiring and the only way he can do that is to do better for Oyo people and I can guarantee that he will do well. Better than what he has done before,” he said.

He enjoined the people of Oyo State to reciprocate Makinde’s good gesture by re-electing him to power during the governorship election, come 11th of March. “On the 11th of March, close your eyes, don’t ask, everything you press must be umbrella,” Wike said. Earlier in his remarks, the host governor, Makinde assured that his administration, if re-elected will sustain the good works and ensure that the people are better for it.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the highlight of the event include, commissioning of 500,000 litre capacity Aviation Fuel Depot, 3.2km dual carriage, Dr Victor Omololu Olunloyo Airport road dualisation, and flag off construction of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo Park. Other dignitaries at the event include a former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, traditional rulers, community leaders, party leaderships among others.

He said, “All the other candidates, the Senatorial candidates, my Deputy Chairman, Doctor Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, Chief Allwell Onyeso, and Barinada Mpigi, and all the House of Reps candidates and the Assembly candidates, let me tell you people, if any of them like, let them go to Abuja and misbehave, we will teach them lesson as we are teaching these other people now.

“I want to sound it clear, all of them are listening to me, if they are not here, they are watching the television. If you follow this betrayal, we will place a course on you and you will suffer the way they are suffering, so if you have the mind to do that, be very very careful”.

2023 polls: G-5 govs will not disclose plans, strategies – Wike

River State Governor, Nyesom Wike has stated that the G-5 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would remain silent and not reveal their strategy ahead of the forthcoming elections starting on February 25.

Wike while reacting to a claim by the Chairperson of the PDP presidential campaign in the State, Lee Maeba that the G5 was dead.

The G5 group comprises Wike, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia.

However, speaking on Tuesday at a campaign flag-off rally organised by the Rivers PDP campaign council for Ahoada East LGA, Wike said the group has withdrawn from speaking regularly in public, to strategise.

A statement by Wike’s Media Aide, Kelvin Ebiri, said: “You people say G5 is dead. We that you said are dead are not worried, but you that are alive are worried.

“We are not talking again; we are not worried. Yet you are worried. You fail to realise that in politics, there is time for talking and time for action. Action has started and 25th February is the D-day.

“You can never know what our plans and strategies are. No matter how you people pressurise us, we will not disclose our strategy. The more you look, the less you see.”

PDP suspends Rivers rally for supporters’ safety

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its planned presidential campaign rally in Rivers for safety reasons.

Alhaji Yusuf Dingyadi, Media Advisory Committee member of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), made the declaration in Sokoto on Tuesday.

He told newsmen that the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, had not in any way expressed fears about comments by Rivers governor, Mr. Nysom Wike.

Dingyadi, also Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the PDP National Chairman, Dr Ayochia Ayu, said the party considered people’s safety as paramount show.

He said Gov. Wike’s comments and order of changes of rally venue needed to be carefully considered as the chief security officer of the state.

According to him, Atiku and other party bigwigs and stakeholders may be safe in the hands of armed security men in their motorcades, but party supporters may not be that safe.

He stressed that party supporters and loyalists who might come from different parts of Rivers and from neighbouring states might be subjected to the dangers of attacks by unknown persons or groups.

“We value our supporters’ lives and their safety than a campaign show. Therefore, the PCC agreed with the recommendation of the state’s local organising committee to postpone the rally.

“The rally has been shifted till when things are done rightly or till we can continue with the grassroots mobilisation through other efforts,’’ Dingyadi said.

Dingyadi stressed that Gov. Wike’s utterances and other political considerations on insecurity, lack of assurance of safety of lives and properties made the PCC to halt the visits.

He noted that presidential campaign rallies had been held successfully in Benue, Abia, Oyo, and others where the governors were considered as being at loggerheads with the PDP National Secretariat.

Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has revealed that about 50,000 persons have been mobilized across the state to attend the rally of Bola Tinubu in Port Harcourt.

The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, disclosed this in Port Harcourt on Sunday shortly after inspecting the venue for the rally.

Governor Nyesom Wike approved the venue last week, where he waived the N5m non-refundable fee.

Okocha said all was set for what he described as the mother of all presidential rallies, adding that the committee had put everything in place, including security to ensure a successful rally.

“We have come here to inspect the facilities at this venue which has been approved by the Rivers State Government. One of the reasons why we came is to also assure our presidential candidate that Rivers State is upbeat and that we are ready for him on February 15.

“You can see things for yourselves what we have done so far and we want to assure our presidential candidate and the PCC at the national level that we are upbeat, “he stated.

When asked if the division in the state APC would not affect the rally, he said the party members were united in their drive to ensure a successful and hitch-free rally.

Okocha said, “Even though nothing has been advanced to us, we have taken the bull by the horns, and as a people, we feel that no attempt and nobody will attempt to sabotage what the APC is doing in Rivers State.

“So, we have put resources together and we have also mobilized a minimum of 50,000 persons from the 23 local government areas of the state to attend the rally at this particular venue.”

The state PCC LOC chairman noted that with the mobilization and enlightenment carried out and the feedback received so far across the state, Asiwaju Tinubu can win Rivers State.

Wike spoke at the campaign inauguration of the Rivers State PDP Campaign Council for Eleme Local Government Area held at the Community Secondary School Field, Alode Town, Eleme on Friday.

He said Ayu’s statement was not a slip of the tongue but what was deep down in his heart that the party has failed and should not be voted back to power.

According to him, “When you see undertakers you will know those who came to kill this party. But the party will not die, they will die first. I didn’t know they are wicked to this party, no wonder they left this party and joined ACN before.”

Wike stated that Ayu’s statement amounted to anti-party for saying that PDP should not be in power anymore.

“He (Ayu) said they will not allow PDP to be in power. Is that a good chairman? Is that not anti-party? Is the chairman not doing anti-party? Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

“For us in Rivers State, our own party is a good party. Our own is a party that has done Rivers State well,” he said.
