2023: G-5 door still widely open for reconciliation -Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State says he and his allies are open to reconciliation with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike and his allies have been at loggerheads with the party after the Rivers leader lost the PDP presidential primary to Atiku Abubakar. They are demanding the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the PDP and have pulled out of the party’s presidential campaign. Reconciliation moves have also failed.

But speaking after four of his allies, better known as the G5, visited the Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Wike said they never closed the door for reconciliation.

“I have stated severally that we are here for reconciliation. We have never closed the door for reconciliation. All we are calling for is equity, fairness, and justice. In fact, that is the hallmark that PDP stands for. We have never closed the door and we would not close the door,” Wike said after the Wednesday visit to Bauchi State.

“All we are saying is, ‘Look, let the right thing be done.’ If the right thing is done, the whole country would know that the election is over. This G5 you are seeing is the bedrock of the party so we would not close the door for reconciliation; we are open for reconciliation any day, anytime.”

2023: I will only support Atiku if PDP ensures equity and fairness – Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde on Saturday have reasons why he would not support the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar until the party ensured fairness.

Recall that Makinde is a strong ally of the Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike who was maligned by the party after its presidential primaries.

Asked about the crisis within the PDP at the national level, Makinde said he would only support Atiku if the party did the needful.

According to him, the party must demonstrate that it
can ensure fairness and justice within its system before seeking to implement it on the country.

Makinde maintained that if re-elected in 2023, he would go on to deliver Omituntun 2.0, which he said would centre on delivering sustainable development to the people of the state.

He said: “When | was campaigning for election in 2018, | brought out a roadmap and promised the people that it was meant for accelerated development of Oyo State. Now, based on what we have experienced, we have brought another roadmap, but this time round, it is for sustainable development 2023-2027.”

On how the administration has been able to deliver infrastructure that targets its economic expansion programme, Makinde said his government’s idea of infrastructure development has seen over 500 kilometres of road either completed or been constructed.

He maintained that in line with its determination to boost the economy of the state, the government embarked on an effort to link all five zones of the State.

On his tenure so far, Makinde said his administration has been able to deliver accelerated development to the state in the last three and a half years, adding that his performance justifies his re-election bid.

He made the remarks in a live interview session on a radio station in Ibadan, saying with the achievements recorded by the administration across the four service point areas of education, security, health and economic expansion through agribusiness and infrastructure, he deserved to be re-elected by the

Mimiko reacts to report on betrayal, declares support for Wike over Ayu removal

Former Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, has said he would not ditch the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, and other governors of the Peoples Democratic Party or abandon the agitation for regional equity within the party.

The ex-governor stated this on Wednesday while rejecting his nomination as ‘Leader of Campaign’ following his purported nomination on the Ondo State PDP Presidential Campaign Council list.

According to Mimiko, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Digital Communications, John Paul Akinduro, the appearance of his name on the list was fake as well as a deliberate attempt to muddle things up and smear his person.

He emphasised that he was not consulted by anyone and that he did not consent to his inclusion in the state’s PDP PCC list.

“Dr Olusegun Mimiko has been inundated with calls and messages from the general public, and his political friends and concerned individuals around the nation; and in particular, his teeming supporters across the length and breadth of Ondo State, seeking clarity on a fake news making the rounds since yesterday that he had ditched Governors Nyesom Wike, Seyi Makinde and their colleagues governors, and abandoned the agitation for regional equity within the PDP; and in particular, making a party member of southern extraction it’s the national chairman before the 2023 election.

“For the avoidance of doubt and to set the record straight, Dr Mimiko is unwavering in his commitment to the principle of equity, fairness and justice through which he believes a credible push for a PDP victory is possible.

“He fully subscribes to the agitation by his colleagues and other stakeholders in PDP and the generality of Nigerians that the PDP structure must reflect Nigeria’s diversity, if it genuinely wants to unify a visibly divided country.”

Wike, Orbih, absent as Atiku in Benin vows to right wrongs of APC

The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council in Benin, Edo State promised that if its candidate, Atiku Abubakar is voted as president, the PDP will right the wrongs of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

PDP made the commitment in Benin, Edo State capital, when Atiku led other leaders of the PDP to address a rally at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Saturday.

The PDP presidential flag bearer, while addressing the mammoth crowd of PDP members including a number of governors among whom were Governors Aminu Tambuwal and Udom Emmanuel. However, conspicuously missing was Governor Nyesom Wike and the national vice-chairman, South-South of the party, Chief Dan Orbih.

According to Atiku, my priority assignment as President is to unify this country. The current APC government has done a lot to destroy the unity of this country and it will be unfortunate to give them another opportunity to continue their bad job. So, I am going to correct that.

“Secondly, we are going to ensure that we provide security and make it possible again for Nigerians to travel across the country without any fear of security breach.

“We will also ensure that our children receive quality and sustainable education. The PDP did this by enacting the Universal Basic Education law, which gave the rights to our children to have compulsory education.

“Similarly, we shall boost the economy and bring in the private sector to create jobs for the youths; provide infrastructure and restore the confidence of Nigerians in the public sector.

“Again, we are going to make sure that we devolve more power and responsibilities to the state and local governments and bring the government closer to the people,” Atiku told the Benin rally of his vow to reverse the wrongs of the APC government.

Meanwhile, before attending the rally, Atiku had earlier gone to the palace of the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II to pay a courtesy visit to the monarch.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, the host governor, thanked the people of Edo State for coming out in large numbers to identify with the PDP, saying that “the PDP, by all standards, remains the best political party for the people of Edo State and Nigeria given the achievements of the party.”

2023: Nigeria does not need a purveyor of ethnicity as president – Wike shades Atiku

River State Governor, Nyesom Wike has attacked the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar for talking about northern presidency rather than speaking on how to solve the country’s problem.

TheNewsGuru recalls that during the weekend in Kaduna, Atiku urged Northerners to vote for him rather than a Yoruba or Igbo candidate because he’s a Pan-Nigerian, ever since the former vice-president has been criticized for his comment.

Wike who is at loggerhead with his party presidential flagbearer has also criticized him for talking about ethnicity.

The governor reacted to the comment on Tuesday at the 22nd National Women’s Conference, with the theme: ”Spring Forth, Stand Out”, organised by the Committee Of Wives Of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) in Lagos.

“Nigerians need a president that has the interest of Nigerians, A president that has experience in governance, a president Nigerians can say yes, there are no food and can put food on the table will fight insecurity, not the people that are talking about ethnicity, no”, he said.

When asked who is on his mind, he replied “Don’t worry”

PDP headache: BoT’s decision to allow Ayu remain until after elections is ridiculous – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, BoT, for allowing the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign after the 2023 general elections.

The governor spoke yesterday at the international wing of the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, on arrival from a brief trip to Spain.

“To say he should make another commitment that he will resign after the elections, for me, BOT resolution is ridiculous,” he said.

Wike accused the party’s National Chairman of failing to inform the PDP National Working Committee, NWC, of the N1.1 billion he received on behalf of the party.

He said: “Luckily for me, Ayu has now mentioned that he went to the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, the Waziri of Adamawa where they discussed the issues of borrowing.

“Now, the question is, when you talk about borrowing, who approves borrowing? You must go to the NWC to say you want to borrow money.

“I challenge him to bring the records where NWC approved that the party should go and borrow N1 billion. What is the collateral?”

…asks Atiku to reconstitute the Campaign council

…orders a stop to inflammatory press interviews by members

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP Board of Trustees, BoT apparently to douse the tension engulfing the party has moved to get a firm commitment from embattled national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu to resign immediately after the 2023 general election.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports this was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting held by the BoT members on Friday to urge the National Chairman as an eminent leader to give a firm assurance that he would resign his position after the 2023 elections.

TNG recalls that the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike led camp had consistently hammered on Ayu vacating the position of chairman to balance the north south dichotomy caused by the lopsidedness in the party.

The board equally demanded that the presidential campaign council should be reconstituted to carry along all members.

The major highlights in the communiqué include:

“To call on all Party leaders and persons close to them, to desist from making further inflammatory remarks or granting press interviews.

“To call on the Chairmen of the PDP Governors Forum to convene a meeting of the PDP Governors Forum without further delay.

“To call on all the leaders of the party to match words with action and where commitments are made to unconditionally fulfill same.

“To urge the National Chairman as an eminent leader to give a firm assurance that he would resigns his position after the 2023 elections.

“In the same vein the BoT Chairman has been authorized to offer apologies unbehalf of all members who feel malign or aggrieved by the public statements made by its members across the country that has sharpen the current division in the party.

“To call on the presidential candidate to review its appointments of members of the campaign council and other advisory appointments to make it all inclusive.

“The BoT will refer some of these recommendations for noting and appropriate action to NEC of our party in due Course.

…drafts Odili, Ibori and Mark to mediate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly suspended its presidential campaign temporarily over Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to reconcile him and the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar .

It was gathered that the campaign rally was suspended at the instance of Atiku who, party sources said, had drafted three prominent PDP stakeholders to mediate in the standoff between him and the Rivers Governor.

Atiku was reported to have drafted a former Senate President, David Mark; a former Rivers Governor, Peter Odili and a former Delta Governor, James Ibori as mediators.

It was further gathered that the campaign was suspended to give the three new “arbitrators” a chance to undertake and conclude their assignment.
