16 suspected oil thieves arrested in Rivers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Rivers on Tuesday paraded 16 suspected oil thieves involved in illegal refining of crude oil to produce diesel.

The corps Commandant in the state, Mr Michael Ogar, paraded the 16 male suspects before newsmen in Port Harcourt.

He said they were arrested by operatives of NSCDC and Nigeria Navy during separate raids at different locations in the state.

According to him, the operations led to the seizure of about 200,000 litres of adulterated diesel that was being readied for distribution to unsuspecting motorists in the state.

“Eight of the suspects were arrested by operatives of NSCDC’s anti-vandal unit while the other eight were handed over to us by Nigeria Navy Ship Pathfinder Port Harcourt.

“The 16 suspects were arrested for their involvement in oil theft and illegal refining of diesel.

“Some of the suspects were caught moving about 200,000 litres of diesel with their trucks, Sport Utility Vehicles and other cars to different locations in the state before their arrest,” he said.

Ogar said the command had made several arrests and confiscated petroleum products following the marching order to the NSCDC by Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola and Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers.

He assured the people that the command would not rest until all forms of illegal bunkering of petroleum products and vandalising of oil and gas installations were stopped in the state.

“We are not going to compromise on our mandate. The many arrests and seizures show that our officers and men have been complying to government directives to stop illegal bunkering.

“Aside this, we are also going after landlords who connive with criminals by allowing them to use their buildings and facilities to illegally bunker petroleum products.

“The command is already on the trail of such landlords, and will arrest and charge them to court for allowing their property to be used for illegal activities,” he added.

The commandant said the suspects would soon be charged to court while the command would seek the forfeiture of the seized vehicles and petroleum products to the Federal Government.

It is the first time Ortom, the Governor of the home State of Ayu, has openly asked him to resign.

The Governor said: ” Ayu told the whole world that if a northern candidate emerges he will resign. So where is the honour now to continue in office?

“If you don’t want to resign beg for pardon. But it is not enough to say your tenure is four years and you won’t resign as you said it yourself “

PDP Crisis: Wike, Ortom, Makinde, two other govs snub campaign inauguration

The crisis engulfing Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, seems to be escalating as Governors in the camp of Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike on Wednesday snubbed the official inauguration of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council.

The Governors include Samuel Ortom of Benue State; Seyi Makinde of Oyo State; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State; Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Wike.

Some other stakeholders believed to be loyal to Governor Wike were also absent at the inauguration which took place at the International Conference Centre, Abuja on Wednesday.

However, the remaining PDP Governors loyal to the party’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar attended the event.

They include: Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State; Diri Duoye of Bayelsa State; Godwin Obaseki of Edo State; Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State; Darius Ishaku of Taraba State; Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State; and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.

The Delta State governor and running mate to Atiku, Ifeanyi Okowa, was also present at the event.

Ortom parts ways with Wike, supports Ayu as PDP chair

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has denied support for the removal of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

Ortom made this clear in a statement issued by Nathaniel Ikyur, his Chief Press Secretary, maintaining that he has confidence in Ayu’s ability to lead the party to victory in next year’s general election.

Ortom’s statement goes in contrast to that of his ally, Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers, who leads a section of the PDP to which the Benue governor belongs to.

The Governor in his statement said he worked tirelessly, alongside other prominent Benue citizens, to ensure that Ayu was elected “as the national chairman of our great party even against all odds”.

“The governor could not, therefore, turn around to work against him to be removed from office,” he said.

The statement further read, “Governor Ortom vouched for the integrity and capacity of Dr Iyorchia Ayu to lead and rebuild the PDP to victory and rescue Nigeria from the misrule of the APC maladministration. That is why Ayu was returned unopposed by the northern caucus of the party and got elected as the national chairman of the PDP at the party’s convention.

“Where was Jemgbagh Development Association, when Governor Ortom galvanised support from across the leaders of the party to make Dr. Ayu PDP’s National Chairman? What was their contribution to that project that they now want to use clannish stance to blackmail the governor?

“This amorphous and emergency Jemgbagh Development Association, Abuja, which has never been heard of before, is now masquerading as the voice of Jemgbagh to embark on campaign of calumny against Governor Ortom, who has worked selflessly for the people of Benue State.

“Governor Ortom is more Jemgbagh than most of the people claiming it now. This is fact, because he has done more for Jemgbagh, both in terms of appointments and projects executed as well as patronage in the area, than even one of the Jemgbagh sons, who was governor. Besides, Governor Ortom has consistently worked for the unity of Benue State and will never stand in the way of any of her citizens, either here in the state or in the diaspora

“For those, who claimed to be leaders of this Jemgbagh Development Association, Abuja, we urge them to be truly developmental in their drive to build cohesion among the people and attract real development to their area rather than engaging in mischief or blackmail.”

BREAKING: Wike opens a can of worms, narrates how Ayu manipulated PDP primaries

Governor, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Friday, opened a can of worms on events that led to the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the Peoples Democratic Presidential candidate during the PDP primaries.

He said if not for the love he and others in his camp had for the main opposition party, they could have prevented the PDP convention from holding.

Wike, who revealed this in an ongoing media parley, alleged that the PDP’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, played a vital role that was detrimental to other aspirants in the emergence of Atiku as PDP flagbearer.

The governor alleged that Ayu called several presidential aspirants to step down for the former vice president during the convention.

“He was calling aspirants to withdraw for Atiku. I was there, Saraki and others were there.

“He manipulated the delegates. There was nothing Ayu did not do to ensure Wike didn’t emerge,” Wike declared.

Wike, team are being treated like filth in PDP – Fani-Kayode

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Aviation Minister, advises Governor Nyesome Wike of Rivers State to dump the Peoples Democratic Party that treats him like a rag doll and join the All Progressives Congress

    By Femi Fani-Kayode

Honestly, my sympathies, heart and pity go out to the Wike group. They are being treated like filth by their party. They had no choice but to pull out of the Atiku campaign. Yet I saw all this coming long ago. Why do you think I left the PDP in the first place?

It is a party that is no longer national and does not even pretend to have respect for Southerners. It is a party that is incapable of rewarding loyalty and keeping its word. It is a party that begins and ends in the North and every Southerner and Middle Belter that is still there is nothing but a quisling and a stooge.

It is a party that does not believe in or understand the importance of building bridges of peace, love and understanding between the North and the South and ensuring fairness, justice and equity for all. It is a party that does nothing but insult and seek to marginalise and destroy its perceived detractors and enemies and putting Nigeria in its hands would mean the end of our country within a matter of months.

This is not the PDP of OBJ, UMYA or GEJ. This is a dying and decaying fly and maggot-infested carcass and a pitiful shadow and shell of its former self. A party with no morals or decency that treats those that stood by it, helped it and fought for it over the years with contempt and disdain.

A party that uses and dumps. A party that seeks to deride, misrepresent and humiliate all those that once stood in the trenches with them and fought for their cause. A party which has close and covert links with the terrorists that are killing, maiming and kidnapping our people.

A party which is powered and controlled by hidden forces that believe they own Nigeria and that have not only sought to destabilise our nation but have also unleashed murder, mayhem, hell and terror against our people. A party that does not want peace but delights in conflict, rancour, division, hegemony and war.

A party some of whose leaders and members are behind much of the insurgency, bloodshed and mass murder in the North West and parts of the North Central and particularly in Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, Nassarawa and Katsina.

A party that has done nothing but humiliate its former President and flagbearer for the 2015 presidential election, President Goodluck Jonathan, over the last seven years and who did not even see fit to give him a place or a role in their Presidential Campaign Council.

A party whose National Chairman is little better than a haughty peacock and who is so vain, puffed up, conceited and deluded that he believes he is more important than all the Presidents on the African continent put together.

The only thing they know how to do is use religion and ethnicity to fight. They know nothing else. They pit Nigerian against Nigerians and seek to divide us rather than bring us together. They do not care about progress and they do not even know the meaning of the word: they only care about their pockets.

The only way forward for the Wike group is to come out of the shadows and support Asiwaju for the presidential campaign and get their supporters to vote for his candidacy. It is a matter of honour.

They took everything from them including their self-respect and dignity. What more do they have left and what are they waiting for? If Atiku wins the election he will come after them with all he has got and utterly crush and destroy them.

Even if Atiku or Okowa themselves are not interested in doing so the hawks around them like Sule Lamido, Attahiru Bafarawa and Adamu Waziri will ensure this is done. For the Wike group, the threat is now existential. Every one of them has been marked for destruction and humiliation by the new leaders of their party.

PDP is not only a menace to their loyal members but a very real and present danger to Nigeria. They should be treated with contempt and the shameless club of degenerates and clan of lepers that they are.

PDP in panic mode calls for emergency meeting after Wike’s camp resigned from Campaign Committee

Events of the last 24hours has led Nigeria’s main opposition party into panic mode as the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has called for an emergency meeting to discuss the ongoing crisis in the party.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports this sudden development comes after ex-information minister Prof. Jerry Gana, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and some other key party officials resigned from the PDP’s presidential campaign committee on Wednesday.

Wike’s camp made the announcement following a meeting on Wednesday morning at Wike’s private residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, that they would not be part of the campaign council, which was supposed to be inaugurated the following Wednesday.

They blamed their decision on the refusal of the party’s chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign, arguing that the position must go to the South in order to achieve balance, justice, and equity.

In response to the development, the opposition party held a lengthy meeting to discuss how the withdrawal might affect the party’s plans.

The National Working Committee’s decision would be made on Thursday (today), according to the party’s spokesman, Debo Ologunagba. Ologunagba revealed to The PUNCH on Wednesday that the party had been meeting since Wike’s camp announced their departure from the campaign council (Thursday).

“As a party, we need to take a firm position to rebuild and rebrand our party. We have been in a marathon meeting since morning (Wednesday). But one thing is clear, no one has rejected our presidential candidate; that is very important. The meeting will continue tomorrow (today) and after the meeting, we will make our position clear,’’ he stated.

However, Wike’s camp has insisted that only the ouster of Ayu would cause them to change their minds.

PDP crisis: Injustice has been meted to Wike – Ortom

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom of Benue has insisted that Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike is being treated with injustice in the ongoing crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ortom blamed the National Leadership of PDP for failing to use internal mechanisms to resolve the crisis.

The governor stated this on Monday during an expanded caucus meeting of PDP in Makurdi.

“The idea of dismissing people in politics that they do not matter is dangerous, because a single vote counts in politics.

“Injustice has been meted to Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers and it must be addressed. Justice must be served him.

“Wike stood and supported the party and he should be given due attention,” Ortom said.

He appealed to governorship aspirants who failed at the primaries to keep faith with the party.

He said that PDP was going to rescue the country from the hands of APC, emphasising that the party would rescue and rebuild Nigeria.

He urged to party faithful in the state who were aggrieved to sheathe their swords, appealing that all forms of blackmail within the party should cease, as they work for victory in 2023.
