  • Wike orders construction of primary school on site of demolished hotels in Rivers

The Rivers State Government Wednesday announced the death of a member of its Taskforce on COVID-19 attacked by hoodlums at the demolished Prodest Hotel in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim, who though did not mention the name of the victim, said he died from injuries he sustained during the incident.

Nsirim, who spoke in Port Harcourt, justified the actions of the state Governor, Nyesom Wike, saying the governor was combating the spread of the Coronavirus with the rule of law.

The commissioner said the governor approved the conversion of the demolished hotel site to a primary school to serve the people of the state adding that the opposition hijacked the demolition incident.

He said: “The latest issue that has been hijacked by opposition elements is the demolition of two hotels in Eleme, after they deliberately flouted Executive Order 6.

“These two hotels, Prodest Hotel, Alode, Eleme and Etemeteh Hotel, Onne not only flouted the Executive Order, the Hotel Manager of Prodest invited the wanted PDP Eleme Youth Leader, Princewill Osaroejiji, who came with thugs to unleash mayhem on Task Force operatives on ground to close down the facility.

“As we speak, one of the Task Force operative lost his life last night. Governor Wike and the Rivers State Security Council took the decision to demolish the hotel in the interest of Rivers State and her people. Days before that demolition, everyone was aware that the State Government sensitized the people on the consequence of flouting Executive Order 6.

“Having demolished that hotel, Governor Wike has approved that a primary school be constructed at that location to serve Rivers people. This is what a responsive government will do.

“The fight against coronavirus in the state has been premised on the Rule of Law. It was Governor Wike who first signed an Executive Order that led to Border Closure and other actions. This was done on March 19, 2020. After initial criticisms, other States followed suit.

“Therefore, the fight against coronavirus in Rivers State is in the interest of Rivers people and the entire Country. This is because Rivers State is vital to the survival of the nation as the headquarters of the hydrocarbon industry”.

He said the people of Eleme were happy about the demolition and wondered why Wike’s critics were not bothered about the alleged criminal activities that led to the demolition of the hotel.

Eleme people are happy with the demolition. In several publications they made after the demolition, they have declared that Prodest Hotel is a criminal hideout and a den for cultists.

He said: “One question many social media lawyers and their followers have refused to answer is, why is that out of several hotels operating in Rivers State only Prodest and Etemeteh hotels were demolished.

“Even the Chairman of Nigeria Hotels Owners Association Rivers State Chapter, Mr. Eugene Nwaizu, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt expressed surprise that the hotels that were not even registered with the body disobeyed the Executive Order.

“According to him, the Hotels and Guest Houses were well informed about the Executive Order. The Governor is not out to witch-hunt anybody but to ensure that coronavirus does not spread in the State.

“However, seasoned legal luminaries like Chief OCJ Okocha (SAN) have said that Governor Wike acted within the law under the present circumstances. We are saying, rather than mislead members of the public; those aggrieved should approach the courts for interpretation”.

Saying that Rivers was not a lawless state, Nsirim noted that the governor would not be distracted by ill-mannered politicians struggling for media space.

“The Rivers State Government will remain focused. It will not be distracted by these unfortunate schemes by ill-mannered politicians, struggling for political space at the expense of their people.

“For Rivers State, the demolition of the two hotels was carried out in line with the prescribed Executive Order known to all hoteliers in the State. It was also done to protect officials of the Rivers State Government who are implementing the Executive Order. No Government will allow its officials to be killed by thugs whilst they carry out lawful directive”.

  • Of Wike, Yahaya Bello and toxic governance – Mideno Bayagbon

    By Mideno Bayagbon

Just when we thought Nigeria has reached the very bottom, the nadir of political perfidy, of gross governmental incompetence of the lowest low, Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers state and Yahaya Bello of Kogi spring new brands of political rascality on the land. And it is all so annoying.

Let’s start with the garrulous and seemingly power drunk Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike, Governor of Rivers state.

True, we have been treated to his theatrics, lack of decorum, lack of respect for any and everybody; true, we have all been witnesses to his obsession with power as an absolute, acting like a motor park tout attempting to Lord his ego over his gang of felons. But he is a lawyer, a man on whom fate has been very kind. From being a Local government chairman, to joining In the fight that brought Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi as Governor, to being Chief of Staff, Minister, and in the last five years, Governor, Wike has surprisingly epitomised the worst of our politics.

Parading an elephantine ego, and a half digested messianic complex, Governor Wike in an attempt to completely dominate Rivers state politics, has constituted himself into a public threat. His most recent, brash actions are examples. What makes a Governor think he has the constitutional right to abrogate the laws of the land, the fundamental rights of the citizens and trample on their lives and properties with such reckless impunity? Where does Wike get the power to destroy the properties of Rivers state citizens because of a perceived breach of COVID19 lockdown in the state?

Even if for arguments sake, we agree that the owners of the two hotels, destroyed by Wike on Sunday, breached the lockdown rules, and if we even also assume that there is a state law, unknown to the public somewhere, to back up his actions, did such a law, which is definitely at variance with the constitution, also empower him to constitute himself into the accuser, the judge and the executor, summarily?
In a broadcast yesterday, Governor Wike, said the following as justifications for his ill advised actions:

“We acted against the hotelier because, apart from using the facility to jeopardise the lives of our citizens in violation of the extant law, the owner audaciously unleashed thugs led by the Eleme Local Government Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and inflicted severe injuries on our task force members who went to enforce the law against the continued operation of the hotel. As we speak, nobody knows the fate of the lives of most of the victims of that brazen and deadly attack given the severity of the head injuries they sustained.
And so, we have done no wrong as all our actions were taken in good faith and justified by, under and within the purview of the Executive Orders which have neither been challenged nor set aside by any competent court of law.”

The question he failed to answer, however is, is an executive order superior to the constitution of the land, and or to the fundamental human rights of the citizens?

Among the many voices which have come out to condemn the condemnable action of the governor, my friend and former colleague, Richard Akinnola paints a lucid picture of the many infractions of the demi-god of Port Harcourt. They include, but definitely are not limited to:
    • the demolition of hotels;
    • Threat to auction impounded vehicles that violated the lockdown;
    • Publicly insulting senior Rivers state traditional rulers;
    • Talking to PDP party leaders like a headmaster talking to pupils;
    • Insulting and fighting every Commissioner of police posted to the state;
    • Insulting and fighting military commanders posted to the state.
    • Personally effecting arrest of Carverton helicopter pilots and getting a Magistrate court to remand them in prison.
    • Etc.
Not a few people agree with Richard when he concludes that Governor Nyesom Wike is
    • crude, rude, saucy, indecorous and abrasive.
    • That he is so inebriated with power that is transient.
    • That he is deluded that he is a law unto yourself.
    • That he conducts himself like an “agbero”, with no finesse.
    • He is a senior lawyer, in fact, a life Bencher and his wife is a judge. But these have not reflected in his public conducts.
    Shame!!!

Among the deluge of other condemnations poured on the governor, Femi Falana, SAN, sums them up thus: “It is unfortunate that these events are happening in Port Harcourt where the Governor of the state is a senior lawyer and not just a lawyer, l am even informed that he is a member of the Body of Benchers; that is an embarrassment. A colossal embarrassment to the Nigerian Bar Association.

“Under our law, an emergency situation under the Quarantine Act (1926) does not permit the demolition of a house of an alleged offender. Whoever has breached the law will have to be tried and convicted by a Court of Law before a sentence can be pronounced.
“There is no provision for even the President to take the law into his hands and then begin to mete out punishments to citizens without recourse to the constitution. We hope the Governor will be properly advised to reverse his decisions, publicly apologise and restore the properties of those that have been destroyed. Everyone will have to go through a judicial process. That is what the rule of law is all about…
“The right to property, fair hearing and liberty are constitutional rights. No governor has the power to dismiss these rights under the pretext of enforcing the COVID19 regulations.”
Nothing more to add, except to remind Governor Wike not to forget that power is transient, that his tenure is not in perpetuity, that come 2023, he will be out of that office and become the ordinary, powerless, feet of clay Rivers state citizen that he is. l suspect history will be harsh on this governor.
    ===========================================================================================================

THE GADFLY AT KOGI GOVERNMENT HOUSE

Also toeing the path of perfidy and odium, like Nyesom Wike, is a young man fate sprung from the backwaters of Kogi’s to government house. Young and brash and exhibiting surprising arrogance, Yahaya Bello, the Governor of Kogi state is making himself an odium on the campaign for youths to be given a chance at governance at all levels.
Yahaya Bello is reputed as the youngest governor in Nigeria currently. He assumed office as governor, his first foray into governance, at age 40. This is after the rightful winner of the election, Prince Abubakar Audu died mysteriously. Since then his inexperience and excessive youthful exuberance has made him and the state the butt of jokes. The ground is whet from the bloodshed of his re-election, while the people cower under his heavy handed rule. Poverty, disease, hopelessness walk naked on the frightened faces of the people while their young emperor plays kalokalo with their destiny.

Not a few were stunned by his contrived bravado when officials of the National Centre for Disease Control, visited the state to take charge of the coronavirus situation in the state. To their gesture, Governor Bello, ordered that they be quarantined for 14 days before they will be allowed to confront the pandemic, which the governor wants the world to believe is non-existent, in the state. As he boastfully posits, COVID-19 is just an attempt by some smart alecks to steal billions of Naira from the public purse. He says there is nothing like COVID-19, at least not in Kogi state.

Nigerians will perhaps remember a viral video, exclusively sourced by TNG (TheNewsGuru.com), where a seemingly athletic Governor Bello, in his private gym, displayed so much laughable childishness. Those who watched the video were truly baffled how a man of such intellect managed to become a governor. But then they remember that he never really contested for and won the first election. The courts curiously handed it to him on a platter of unearned gold.

Governor Bello’s grouse was simple. People were rightly worried for him after it was confirmed that the late chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, the powerful Abba Kyari, had tested positive to the deadly virus which eventually took his life. Recall that when the late Abba Kyari returned from the trip that shortened his life, one of the few things he did before the virus manifested its fangs, was a condolence visit to Governor Bello who had just lost his mother.

After it became known that Governor Bello had very close contacts with Kyari, speculations were rife that he too might have been infected by the still rampaging Coronavirus disease. No one knows if he did the test but he came out smoking, pouring curses on, and wishing all the speculators and well wishers who feared for his health, a deluge of HIV/AIDS infection! Since then he has never hidden his disdain for the pandemic which has ravaged and shut down Nigeria and indeed the world. He has told all, and stood firm on his belief that Kogi state is COVID-19 free. it is therefore, in his attempt to wish away the coronavirus infection, that he harangued, harassed and chased away officers of the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, from the state. What infantile bravado.

COVID-19: Wike announces temporary suspension of lockdown in Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor LGAs

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has announced the temporary lifting of the total lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas for two days only, with effect from Tuesday 12th May 2020.

Governor Wike made the announcement in a State-Wide broadcast last night. He said that the total lockdown will be lifted on Tuesday 12th May, 2020 and Wednesday, 13th May, 2020.

Governor Wike said the temporary lifting of the lockdown is for residents to restock foodstuffs and medicines to their homes.

Governor Wike said that the lockdown will be reinstated on Thursday, 14th May, 2020.

He said: “Consequently, we have given due consideration to the propositions on the way forward by well-meaning citizens of the State, and after a cautious review of the situation, decided to implement a partial relaxation of the lockdown measures, to enable residents to have some fresh air and replenish their foodstuffs and medicines.

“To this end, I hereby announce the temporary lifting of the total lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Governments Areas for two days only, with effect from Tuesday 12th May 2020.

All shops, supermarkets, and malls can open to the public for Tuesday and Wednesday, 12 and 13 May 2020.

“Similarly, all hospitals and banks can also open and provide full services to the public.

“While oil and gas companies are required to submit the list of their staff on essential duties to Government, note that there is no ban on the lifting of petroleum products from depots and other receptacles.

“The total lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas will be reinstated on Thursday 14th May 2020 and remain until further notice.”

Governor Wike said all other established restrictions under the Executive Orders on social distancing are still in force.

He said: “Compulsory wearing of face mask or scarfs in vehicles and public places; Closure of all land, sea and air borders and entry routes into the State; and Closure of all open markets, including slaughters, hotels, guest houses, cinemas, bars and restaurants; and Ban on gathering, including public burials, weddings, and religious gathering of more than 50 persons. Once again, thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

“Please note that our enemy is invisible. Stay at home, maintain social distancing, wash your hands regularly and stay safe.

He said every measure the State Government has imposed was dictated by an assessment of the state’s situation, the trend of transmission and the conviction that it was the right thing to do in the circumstance.

“As a Government, we are doing our utmost best, in the face of daunting challenges, to prevent COVID-19 from taking hold in Rivers State; to stop any possible community transmission of this disease before it is too late.

“And we shall continue on this trajectory because the alternative would spell a greater disaster for our State and our people.

“More so, when these are not arbitrary measures but fully prescribed and backed by the ordinary laws of our State, especially, Executive Orders numbers: 1 to 6.

“So far, all our measures and actions are not arbitrary but fully prescribed, guided and backed by the ordinary laws of our State, especially Executive Order numbers 1 to 6, which apply equally to all persons throughout the State. As a Government, we are obliged to enforce our laws, and in the present circumstance, we have done so without fear or favour,” he said.

He added: “We equally made it loud and clear that in the fight against COVI/D-19 there would be no sacred cows; no double standards, and no sentiments of any kind, whether political, ethnic, religious, status, emotional or otherwise.

“In the last few days we have pursued with vigour and secured several convictions against those who intentional violated our COVID-19 containment laws in the same way others States are doing.

“The forfeited trucks to be auctioned by the Deputy Sherriff were not confiscated arbitrarily by the State Government, but by the orders of our Courts.

Governor Wike stated that the demolition of the two hotels in Eleme was done in line with extant laws.

He said: “Similarly, we acted against the hotelier because, apart from using the facility to jeopardize the lives of our citizens in violation of the extant law, the owner audaciously unleashed thugs lead by the Eleme Local Government Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party and inflicted severe injuries on our task-force members who went to enforce the law against the continued operation of the hotel.

“As we speak, nobody knows the fate of the lives of most of the victims of that brazen and deadly attack given the severity of the head injuries they sustained.

“And so, we’ve done no wrong as all our actions were taken in good faith and justified by, under and within the purview of the Executive Orders, which have neither been challenged nor set aside by any competent court of law.

The Governor said he remains focused on protecting Rivers people.

He said: “Therefore, while we welcome genuine criticisms directed towards strengthening our intervention measures; it is no use joining issues with uninformed critics and social media legal practitioners who, blinded and prodded by sheer politics, bias and hatred, have opted to demonized and paint our lawful and responsible actions in bad light.

“Granted that we may not have totally achieved our targets, but we are convinced that, so far, the lockdown and the other measures have impacted greatly in containing and preventing the onslaught of the pandemic on Rivers State.

“We therefore thank the entire people of Rivers State for the overwhelming understanding you have shown even as you continue to endure the pains of the restrictions on your wellbeing and fundamental freedoms.”

Hotels demolition: If you try that with me, I’ll send my men to burn down Rivers, MASSOB leader, Ralph Uwazurike threatens Wike [VIDEO]

Sequel to Governor Nyesom Wike’s demolition of two hotels in Rivers over alleged disobedience of the lockdown order, the leader of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Ralph Uwazuruike has joined angry list of Nigerians condemning the governor’s action.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the governor on Sunday supervised the demotion of Prodest Hotel, Alode, Eleme, and Etemeteh Hotel in Onne both in Eleme Government local area to the anger of some Nigerians home and abroad.

Defending his widely condemned action, Wike while speaking with journalists on Sunday said “Government has no alternative but to apply the Executive order which I signed before the lockdown of Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt. I called all the Traditional Rulers and Council Chairmen and told them to ensure that no hotel operates in the State. We are not saying it will be forever. This is for now, so that we know where we are. To reduce the cases and check the spread. Whether you are PDP or not, all we are saying is that nobody is above the law. If we can do this to a PDP person, then you know we are not discriminatory. Everyone must obey. Whether you are in PDP, SDP or no party, you must obey the law. If any other person does the same thing, the same rule will apply”.

However, in a special video he made to voice his anger, Uwazuruike cautioned the governor, warning him that such inhuman treatment will be resisted. He dared the governor to extend such treatment to him and face all-out battle. He said the governor could have applied fines or seal up the properties rather than pulling it down completely. “Try this with me and I will make Rivers ungovernable for you. I’ll send my men to burn the state and the Federal Government will be forced to declare a state of emergency and you will lose your seat as a governor,” Uwazuruike said.

SERAP vows to sue Wike over hotels demolition

The Socio-Economic Right and Accountability Project, SERAP, has reacted to the demolition of two hotels by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, describing the action as executive rascality.

The rights body condemned the demolition of Prodest Hotel by Wike, and vowed to take action.

“We condemn the reported demolition of Prodest Hotel by Gov Wike, Rivers State.

“Using COVID-19 to perpetrate human rights violations is executive rascality & Mr Wike must stop this now.

“We’re taking legal action to hold him & his govt. to account for illegal actions.

“The demolition of Prodest Hotel is forced evictions and in violation of article 11 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and other human rights treaties to which Nigeria is a state party,” SERAP said on its twitter handle.

Wike had on Sunday supervised the demolition of two hotels in Eleme and Onne for violating the Executive Order 6 of the state government, which banned the operations of hotels amid the lockdown in order to check the spread of coronavirus.

“Government has no alternative but to apply the Executive order, which I signed before the lockdown of Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt. I called all the traditional rulers and council chairmen and told them to ensure that no hotel operates in the state,” he said.

He also directed the State Ministry of Health to conduct tests on the 14 persons to ascertain their coronavirus status.
He said: “This fight has nothing to do with individuals. The law must take its course. You are aware of what is happening and then some people want to illegally smuggle persons into the state.
“The Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor are under lockdown and the law must be obeyed. The trailers and the cows will be auctioned tomorrow. “
Governor Wike said that the arrest of the trailers has vindicated him.
He said that the security agencies have failed the people of Rivers State as they collect money and allow defaulters to slip through the border.
“You heard them saying that they gave money to the security agencies before they were allowed to cross the border.

COVID-19: Wike imposes 24-hour indefinite lockdown on Port Harcourt, Obio-Akpor LGAs

A 24-hour indefinite lockdown has been imposed on Port Harcourt City and Obio-Akpor Local Government Areas by the Rivers State Government.

The government also said all helicopter operators, especially Caverton and Bristow, must henceforth submit manifests of all their passengers for vetting before flying into the state.

The measures, according to Governor Nyesom Wike, is to further check the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic in the state.

Wike, in a broadcast on Monday, advised all residents of two LGAs to stay at home to avoid being arrested by the officials of the state task force on COVID-19.

He said: “We have decided on the extreme measure of placing the entire Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas under a 24 hours total lockdown from Thursday, May 7, 2020 until further notice.

The governor said the measure was taken because of persistent disobedience to “government’s lawful orders and directives on COVID-19” by a number of communities and residents, especially in the affected LGAs despite repeated warning.

He added: “On the whole, we can all see that COVID-19 cases confirmed across the country are growing in numbers, meaning that the situation in our state, although still relatively low, can change for the worse, if we relax our measures or become complacent

“In view of the foregoing, government has resolved to impose additional measures by the Executive Order, I have just signed, which are targeted at reinforcing our efforts toward stopping the spread of the virus in the state”.

”On no account should there be any vehicular movements or gathering of more than two persons in these LGAs, except those on essential services with appropriate authorization.

“All shops, trading or business activities, including currency exchange, in these LGAs must also remain closed until further notice.

”All landlords are advised to ensure that no shop or trading activity is opened or carried out in or around their premises or risk the confiscation of their property by the government.

“Any person, group or institution that violates the lockdown and curfew in these LGAs will be made to face the full wrath of the law. “

Wike also announced a review of the waivers and permits granted workers of oil companies to enter the state.

He said the review became necessary given the threat posed to the state by oil and gas company workers.

The governor therefore appealed to helicopter service companies to obey the state’s new directives.

He said the 14th confirmed COVID-19 case was flown into Port Harcourt by Bristow Helicopters from an offshore oilfield in Akwa Ibom State on April 29, 2020.

Wike argued that that case confirmed fears that unchecked entry of oil and gas workers from Lagos, Abuja and elsewhere remained a potential source for the importation of COVID-19 in the state.

The governor said, “All inward-bound vehicles and flights to Rivers State from oil and gas companies with workers for crew change or other essential operations must first submit details of their manifests to the state’s taskforce on COVID-19 for proper vetting of their virus status before they can be allowed to enter the state.

”All operators of chartered flights into Rivers State for oil and gas operations, especially Bristow and Caverton Helicopters, should please comply with this directive and refrain from jeopardizing the lives of our people for the sake of making profits.”

Wike also ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of Chief B.A. Worgu and Mr. Isaiah Abraka for organizing night markets in defiance of existing ban on such activity.

Besides, he issued a stern warning to the Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) to stop politicalizing Coronavirus in the state.

He said: “This government is focused and therefore will not allow itself to be distracted on its battle against COVID-19. However, we will neither tolerate nor hesitate to deal with anyone who dares to fabricate lies to rubbish the hard work and sacrifice we are making to save the lives in our people just to advance parochial partisan interests.

“I wish to reiterate that the hard choices we have to make as a government and as a people over the COVID-19 pandemic are all premised on upholding the sanctity of human life. ”

Wike, who also enjoined all residents of the state to wear face masks before stepping out of their homes to the public spaces, prohibited the operations of all private motor parks, taxi parks and loading bays throughout the state.

He said that the COVID-19 task force had been directed to arrest and prosecute any person without face masks in public places or inside vehicles.

Wike observed that while the government was battling the importation of this virus, the greatest threat to people’s lives was posed not by outsiders but by residents’ refusal to conform to the new experience.

The governor said N100,000 would be given to any whistleblower with relevant information leading to the arrest and prosecution of any person, hotelier or motorist that violating government’s directives on checking the spread of the virus.

Cc: FML&E; GMD; DSS; IGP; DPR; MPR; IOC’SRecall that on Thursday the 16th of April 2020, we raised the alarm over the illegal arrest and detention of 21(19 male and 2 female) member staff of ExxonMobil by the Rivers State Police Command on the pretext that they violated the State Executive Order on the prevention of movement to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus in the state.

It is more than 48 hours today that these patriotic workers who were lured from the border between Rivers and Akwa Ibom are still detained under inhabitable and inhuman conditions and denied access to basic necessities of life at Elekhahia Stadium. All entreaties to the Rivers State Government to see reasons that they were on essential duties which is for the economic interest of the country have been rebuffed.

Also, it has become obvious that the Federal Government who through the Presidential Task Force on the COVID-19 Pandemic cannot guarantee access to work locations for our members who have volunteered to sacrifice their lives and comfort to salvage the Country from the impending economic crisis occasioned by this world-wide

    The Federal Government and relevant authorities having failed to secure the release of these 21 comrades on legitimate national assignment, the leadership of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), having no other option regrettably direct all our members to commence the withdrawal of services as follows;

    1. By midnight Sunday 19th April 2020, all Export facilities will stop operation as well as suspension of Production & Maintenance Services Reports.

    2. That by 12 noon on Monday 20th April all our members will withdraw all forms of services relating to crude oil production, refining, distribution and supplies.

This directive will remain in force until assurances of our members’ safety are guaranteed by Federal Government. We are in consultation with our units, branches and other sister Unions who will also be joining the action as
the safety of our members is our uttermost priority.

As more cases of COVID-19 increases, popular comedian, Atunyota Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba, has warned the Lagos State Government to take the implementation of the lockdown in the state seriously.

Alibaba who made this known via his Instagram page on Wednesday advised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to emulate his counterpart, Nyesom Wike and apply strict measures on lockdown in the state.

He urged Nigerians to be conscious and take seriously the need for total compliance to the lockdown order in order to contain the spread of Coronavirus.

His post reads, “Stay indoors, we have moved from 300 plus to 400 plus in 24 hours.

“All these governors that were lifting restrictions should get ready now.

TheNewsGuru recalls that Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers accused the federal government of attempting to infect and kill residents of the state with COVID-19.

Addressing a press conference in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Friday, Wike alleged that federal authorities are working to compromise the health protection system of the state and make it vulnerable to coronavirus.

The governor said his administration has established the right legal framework to assist in fighting against the spread of the disease.

“Some people want the escalation of the virus in Rivers State. People were paid to canvass a negative narrative on Carveton Pilots,” Wike said.
