Departing Chelsea star passes Arsenal medical

Departing Chelsea midfielder Willian has already undergone a medical at Arsenal.

The Brazilian announced his departure from Chelsea on Sunday after seven years at the club ahead of his imminent move to the Gunners prior to the 2020-21 campaign – which begins on September 12.

The London Evening Standard says the Brazilian forward had his medical with the north London side as his transfer nears completion.

Willian is expected to sign a three-year contract with Mikel Arteta’s side – where he is set to earn around £100,000-a-week.

Chelsea were hopeful of keeping 32-year-old Willian, but club director Marina Granovskaia was only prepared to offer him a two-year deal, which the Brazilian rejected.

Willian has agreed terms with Arsenal over a Bosman move.

ESPN says Chelsea star Willian has agreed a three-year contract worth £100,000 per week with Arsenal.

The 31-year-old was locked in talks over fresh terms to remain at Stamford Bridge, but has chosen to move on after Chelsea refused to offer him the long-term deal he had demanded. Two years were on the table but the player wanted three.

Frank Lampard was keen to retain Willian and extend his seven-year spell in West London, but Arsenal have stepped in to seal the deal on a free transfer.

The switch is expected to be officially announced by both parties later this month.

Arsenal’s video game partners may’ve let slip a deal with Chelsea’s Bosman prospect Willian is now complete.

Arsenal have partnered with Pro Evo and in a clip for PES 2021 it appears Willian’s move has been comfirmed.

The clip says “new signing” at the beginning and appears to show the 31-year-old Brazilian in Arsenal colours with “Willian” across the screen.

A PES 2021 watermark is visible in the bottom left corner.

Willian – who has been with the Blues for seven years – had been holding out for a three-year deal from former team-mate Frank Lampard.

He has reportedly been offered that by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal, Spurs go head-to-head for Chelsea contract rebel

Arsenal and Tottenham are going head-to-head for Chelsea contract rebel Willian.

The Telegraph says the Premier League rivals are facing a scenario where they will only sign players on free transfers, loans or in swap deals.

Both clubs are planning for a summer without spending any money as the financial impact of the coronavirus suspension begins to bite.

The north London rivals face the prospect of raising money by selling off star assets like Harry Kane or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Willian’s Stamford Bridge future has been the subject of intense speculation, with his current deal set to run out at the end of June.

But with the Premier League likely to restart next month, a short-term deal is set to be agreed between both parties so Willian can play the rest of the season, which is likely to stretch into July and August.

Chelsea midfielder Willian is being linked with a stunning move to Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Sport says Willian, who has previously been linked with moves to both Arsenal and Tottenham, is currently ‘in negotiations’ over a transfer to Liverpool with his contract at Stamford Bridge due to expire on June 30.

Negotiations are ‘very favourable’ for the 31-year-old Brazilian as he seeks a lucrative deal if he enters free agency.

Willian has settled in England and appears keen to extend his stay in the Premier League, with the rest of the top six likely to intensify interest if Willian is available following the expiry of his existing deal.

Willian is currently back home in Brazil, isolating with family as part of the lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Transfer: Barca rejects Chelsea midfielder Willian

Barcelona have rejected the chance to sign Willian, who has been offered to them, according to Sport.

Willian’s current deal at Chelsea is running out and he will be a free agent at the end of this season.

The 31-year-old is widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge, with no progress made on an extension.

With Barcelona turning down the chance to sign Willian, it appears Paris Saint-Germain or Tottenham are now more likely options.

The Brazilian who joined from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013, has already admitted that his preference is to remain in the Premier League.

He has made over 300 appearances for the Blues, winning two Premier League titles, the Europa League and FA Cup.

Brazilian player Willian admits it’s very difficult to remain at Stamford Bridge while his current contract expires soon.

The midfielder has declared he now expects his contract to expire in June with talks over a new deal at deadlock.

“Really a very beautiful story that I built at this club, I have a very special affection for the fans, for the people who work there and I identified myself a lot here,” he told Brazilian publication Expediente Futebol.

“Everyone knows that my contract ends now in a few months, so the renewal is really a difficult thing to happen.

“I think it will be very difficult for me to renew because Chelsea offered me two years, I asked for three and it ended there, we didn’t talk anymore, we didn’t negotiate anymore.”

UCL: Late Willian strike earns Chelsea win at Lille

A brilliant late strike by Willian earned an otherwise unimpressive Chelsea a 2-1 win at Lille in Champions League Group H on Wednesday.

Brazilian Willian volleyed home with 12 minutes left on his 300th Chelsea appearance after Tammy Abraham’s opener had been cancelled out by Lille’s Victor Osimhen in the first half.

Chelsea are third on three points behind second-placed Valencia who beat the Premier League side in the opening round of matches.

Ajax Amsterdam top the standings with a maximum six points after they claimed a 3-0 win at Valencia and Lille are bottom without a point.

“We knew we needed to win. I knew I would get a chance and I took it well. Never an easy place and Willian scored a worldie – no surprise there,” said Abraham, as coach Frank Lampard noted that Chelsea still had a long way to go.

“Having lost against Valencia, it made this a more important game. This is such a tough place. They were quick on the counter-attack and our performance was really good,” Lampard said.

Lille captain Jose Fonte said his team must learn from their mistakes.

“We played a good game but in the end we have zero points. Maybe we didn’t learn anything from the Ajax game,” Fonte said.

Lampard’s side, who lost their opening game against Valencia, had Ngolo Kante in their team after the Frenchman passed a late fitness test and he stabilised Chelsea’s midfield.

The visitors enjoyed possession in the early stages as Lille looked to use their speed to hit them on the break.

Both teams, however, failed to properly threaten until Abraham beat the offside trap to collect Fikayo Tomori’s long cross and score his first Champions League goal from close range on his 22nd birthday.

But Lille stuck to their plan and Luis Araujo came close at the end of a sharp counter-attack.

It led to two consecutive corners and from the second, Osimhen powered a header home to level in the 33rd minute.

Chelsea struggled on set-pieces and Benjamin Andre’s glancing header was well saved by keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the 52nd minute.

Lille seemed to run out of energy in the closing stages and Chelsea benefited from poor defending to wrap up the win in the 78th.

From the left flank, Callum Hudson-Odoi sent a long cross to the far side and Willian, who had been left unmarked, unleashed a volley that bounced down into the ground and over Mike Maignan.

Lille pushed forward in the closing stages but Chelsea held on to extend the hosts’ run to 10 consecutive European home game without a win.

EPL: Abraham will replace Hazard – Willian

Chelsea ace Willian is backing Tammy Abraham to succeed in replacing Eden Hazard.

Hazard left Stamford Bridge this summer for Real Madrid after a season that saw him scorew 21 goals across all competitions and set up a further 17.

With the club under a transfer embargo, the burden to replace those goals has been placed on the shoulders of Frank Lampard’s young squad, but Willian believes there are plenty of players capable of carrying it – including Abraham.

“I think Hazard’s exit was a big loss,” the Brazilian told Goal.

“Eden is a player that can make the difference, but I think we have players that can continue to make the difference as well.

“Abraham is playing well at the moment. He is scoring lots of goals and I am very happy for him.

“The young players are doing well. They can improve a lot. I think Chelsea is Chelsea. No matter the players we have, we have to fight until the end in every competition. That’s what we want to do this season.”
