Obiano was arrested at the Murtala International Airport Lagos, alongside his wife Ebele on their planned trip to America.

Recall that Obiano’s wife was involved in a fisticuff with Bianca, late Ojukwu’s wife at the inauguration of Charles Soludo as governor of Anambra state.

The development came just a few hours after he handed over power to the new Governor of the State, Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

The Public Relations Officer of the commission, Wilson Uwajaren confirmed the arrest.

According to the commission’s spokesman, Obiano had been on the watchlist of the EFCC prior to the transition on Thursday.

He said, “Obiano has been on our watchlist for sometime now. He had immunity as a governor and that is why we could not arrest him before now.

Gov Soludo breaks silence on Mrs Obiano’s fight with Bianca during inauguration

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has broken his silence on the breach of protocol at his inauguration, attributing the incident to a “personal issue”.

A mild drama occurred at the inauguration ceremony when the wife of former Governor Willie Obiano, Ebelechukwu and Mrs Bianca Ojukwu engaged in a physical fight at the event.

In a statement Joe C. Anatune Head, Soludo Media, issued on his behalf, Soludo apologised to all Anambra people, friends and guests for the breach of protocol.

Although he did not mention the names of Ojukwu’s widow and Obiano’s wife, it was clear that he was referring to them.

He stated that the breach was caused by improper communication which arose from a personal issue “between the two parties involved in the breach”.

Soludo said, “Steps are being taken to resolve the misunderstanding and restore the parties to their previous relationship.

“Anambra State has over the years been known for a huge stock of social harmony, and the stock will increase substantially in the years ahead as part of the concerted effort to accelerate the state’s development.”

Oduah, others hit Obiano’s wife for attacking Bianca Ojukwu

Nigerians are reacting to the attack on Her Excellency, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, widow of the founder of APGA, Emeka Ojukwu by the immediate past first lady of Anambra state Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano during the inauguration ceremony of Governor Charles Soludo as the sixth Governor of Anambra State.

Reacting to the development, the Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Senator Stella Ada Oduah condemned the development in strong terms saying, the conduct of Mrs Obiano was indecorous and unbecoming of a woman.

Oduah in her verified Facebook page on Thursday said she condemned in very strong terms, the unwarranted attack against the wife of an illustrious son of Anambra State, Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu.

“I wish to add that the act exhibited by the former first lady was indecorous and unbecoming of a woman who had acted as a mother of the state and even desirous of serving in other capacities.

“More condemnable is even the gutter and vulgar language used by Mrs Obiano to describe her fellow woman, who is even a widow.

“I have always held the view that it is only weak minds that label hardworking women like Bianca with nasty names such as “ashawo” and it is more unfortunate when a woman, especially one that has been around the corridors of power, is the one hurling such baseless and regretful invectives against a fellow woman.

“What the world witnessed on Thursday at the swearing-in ceremony is utterly disgraceful, unfortunate, crude and should never be emulated by the millions of our young girls and women who often look up to public figures with respect to how they conduct themselves”, she added.

She recalled in the statement that a few days ago, an innocent woman was publicly paraded naked in the same community the immediate past first lady hails from, “and one would have thought that rather than showcase this brute nature of fighting and engaging in public fisticuffs with her guest, she should have exerted same energy and fighting spirit in ensuring that Justice is done for that widow.

“It saddens me a great deal to see the wife of an illustrious Anambra son, the pride of Ndigbo and an achiever that was once an ambassador of the Federal Republic, being attacked unprovoked and I join all right-thinking persons on this.

“It saddens me a great deal to see the wife of an illustrious Anambra son, the pride of Ndigbo and an achiever that was once an ambassador of the Federal Republic, being attacked unprovoked and I join all right-thinking persons in praying that we never ever record this type of travesty again in our history as a state”.

Also, many Nigerians on Facebook reacted to the development saying, she is known for such behaviour. Read some of the comments below:

Kemi Law wrote’’ My ex- neighbour’s mum once worked closely with that riff-raff and I heard several horror stories about her. Very unbecoming of a First Lady aka Thug’’

‘’Astonishingly beautiful” or not, whoever is right we should not be browbeating into accepting the lowest standards. With a myriad of existential issues at hand, this is where we find ourselves? People of my age still recall how well people like Mrs Flora Azikiwe comported. I suppose it is a nice distraction for people hunting for fuel’’, Adekanmi Ademiluyi wrote.

‘’Willie Obiano’s grand exit from office has been ruined by his controversial wife, Ebele. She had the effrontery to attack one of Nigeria’s long-standing sweethearts, Ex-beauty Queen, wife of the Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, daughter of Chief C.C. Onoh, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu. Bianca retaliated with a slap…. Mrs Obiano’s behaviour is the worst display of rascality from a First Lady even with Nigeria’s inglorious history of abuse of public office by wives of high ranking public officials. What now happens to her senatorial ambition?!’’

Farewell: Anambra traditional rulers confer chieftaincy title on Obiano

A coalition of traditional rulers in Anambra Thursday conferred a chieftaincy title on the outgone Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra as a farewell package.

The title, “Ukwuomakpolu Anambra” (a harbinger of blessing to Anambra), was conferred on Obiano at a valedictory/welcome party organised in his honour by the Aguleri Community in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.

The event took place at Amaigwe Aguleri Square, Aguleri immediately after the handover ceremony in Awka.

Obiano’s kinsmen said the party was organised to show their appreciation for the “monumental achievements” recorded by his administration in the past eight years.

The Traditional Ruler of Aguleri Community, Igwe Michael Idigo, said the community was proud to have Obiano as a son.

“Obiano was outstanding from start to finish as Anambra governor.

“He bequeathed a lot of legacies and monumental achievements as governor.

“We do not want to start counting airport, International Convention Center and Awka Township Stadium, but more enduring legacies, such as the restoration of security, prudent financial management and respect for institutions,” he said.

Idigo said that Obiano opened up Aguleri Community by building roads and other infrastructure, saying “his record speaks for itself”.

The royal father said that the party was originally planned by Aguleri traditional rulers, adding that they were gladdened that other traditional rulers in the state later joined.

In a brief response, Obiano said, “I am very thankful to you my people for the honour and recognition of the contribution I made”.

Chief Domino Ndife, who doubled as the Chairman, Aguleri Royal Cabinet and Chairman, Planning Committee, said the community was impressed with Obiano’s achievements.

Ndife said that having conferred two chieftaincy titles on Obiano before now, the community felt that holding a valedictory reception in his honour was a better way to appreciate him.

Ndife, who lauded Obiano for supporting the emergence of Prof. Charles Soludo, said there was nothing more resounding in Obiano’s performance than handing over to a leader with a pedigree.

“Obiano has done his best and we expect his successor to emulate his good legacies to ensure that Anambra continues to maintain the lead in education, commerce, agriculture and other sectors,” he said.

Charles Soludo takes over as Governor of Anambra State from Willie Obiano

Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo has taken over as the Governor of Anambra State, assuming the reins of leadership of the State from now former Governor Willie Obiano.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Prof. Soludo took the oath of office on Thursday, March 17, 2022, to become the 6th democratically elected Governor of Anambra.

He was sworn in as the new Governor of Anambra State along with his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim by Hon. Justice Onochie Manasseh Anyachebelu, Chief Judge of the State.

Governor Soludo took over the reins of power from former Governor Obiano, who served the State for eight years, and whose tenure ended today.

Soludo is a world-renowned economist, who formally served as Chief Economic Adviser to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo when he [Obasanjo] was president of Nigeria.

Soludo later became the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) before veering into politics proper.

With an admirable background in the national economy and a stunning academic profile, the new Governor is coming into office with high expectations from the people of Anambra State and Nigerians across the federation.

Soludo urged not to repeat Obiano’s mistakes

Meanwhile, the incoming Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo has been urged by a lawmaker in the State, Dr Timothy Ifedioranma not to repeat the mistakes of his predecessor, Dr Willie Obiano.

Ifedioranma, representing Njikoka Constituency I, under the platform of All Progressives Congress in the Anambra State House of Assembly, made the call while assessing the performance of the outgoing administration of Obiano, on Thursday in Awka.

The lawmaker said that Obiano had good intentions but the actions behind the good intentions were not properly carried out. He lamented that Obiano’s legacy projects were carried out at the expense of other sectors of the state.

“We are grateful for the International Airport, it has made travelling easy for residents but the fact is that the airport project crippled other sectors of the economy and state.

“An example is the state of our roads, they are in bad shape. Now we have an airport but we do not have a road to that airport.

“Another one is that we can have an international convention centre that is not of that magnitude and that will not gulp close to N10 billion.

“We can have 5,000 instead of the 10,000 seating capacity that was built so that the funds can be channelled to other important projects.

“Governance is about the welfare and security of people. Obiano began well during his first tenure in the aspect of security but he ended poorly and somebody has to say it.

“If he had ended his administration in the first tenure, I would have scored his performance 80 per cent but his last tenure was a disaster. So many other sectors suffered because he was pursuing his legacy projects.

“So, I need to tell him the feelings of my constituents as an elected member of the state Assembly.

“My advice to the incoming governor, Prof. Soludo, is that he should not make the same mistakes his predecessor made so that at the end of his tenure, he will be remembered for good,” he said.
