Why every man should have multiple wives – Seun Kuti

Afrobeat star, Seun Kuti, has revealed why every man should abolish monogamy.

According to him polygamy should be embraced and men ought to be allowed to have multiple women.

Seun Kuti stated this during the recent episode of the ‘Bahd & Boujee’ podcast, asserting that having multiple women signify power and affluence.

    He said:

“Monogamy doesn’t work. As a powerful man, you must have the support of numerous powerful goddesses. You know, women that are in your life because the ancestors want to put them there. You share with them.”

  • Woman cancels wedding over ‘groom’s refusal to move out of his family house

Woman cancels wedding over ‘groom’s refusal to move out of his family house

A Nigerian woman, Florence Friday, cancelled her wedding allegedly over the groom’s refusal to leave his family house and rent an apartment.

The wedding was scheduled for Saturday, May 4th, 2024, in Farin Lamba, Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Contrary to reports that Florence cancelled the wedding a day before the ceremony, her cousin, Anny Roberts, claimed it was called off over a month ago.

“Florence Friday is my cousin and this isn’t the situation, You people’s Morgak did not pay her complete bride price but he wants to proceed with the wedding. And again this wedding was cancelled more than a month ago. Let’s be careful what we post,” she posted.

According to unconfirmed reports, Florence had earlier requested N30,000 from her groom, Morgak James Seri, on March 28th to book her wedding gown.

Morgak gave her N15,000 with a promise to complete it the following week but she allegedly threatened to call off the wedding if she didn’t receive the full amount. Morgak sent her the full amount two days later to book the wedding dress.

However, after the couple resolved the dress issue, Florence requested Morgak to move out of his family house and rent an apartment. After a lengthy debate, they agreed to live in the family house for two months after the wedding before renting an apartment.

This agreement was reached before Morgak proceeded with the introductions, church signing, and paying the bride price. However, the wedding didn’t take place.

Confirming the development, Florence’s cousin, Naomi Kareem, said the groom was in a hurry to get married so that Florence could come to stay at his family house and take care of his sick parents.

“This wedding was put on hold (the last time I heard anything about the wedding was in March). They fixed a date without my family’s consent. How do you fix a wedding without giving the family time to prepare for it. We kept asking her why the rush, apparently he was putting her under pressure, so she can come stay at his family house and take care of his sick parents,’ Naomi wrote.

“He was putting pressure on her because he wanted our family to fund the entire wedding. This may not have been a problem(this is me saying but I know my grandad and the entire family sef, would not want it) if they gave us ample time.”

“Bear in mind that the cancellation of introduction, was because the dates clashed with visiting day (which we don’t joke with and this happens once a term), so as a family, we requested for it to be moved.”

“Also, bear in mind that she has been the one giving him money for almost all the wedding preparations. I really wouldn’t want to say more than this. She didn’t call off the wedding abruptly and of all the silly reasons to think of, it’s payment for wedding gown.

One Gotau Nenpoji Gotau, who claimed to be a cousin of the groom, confirmed that the wedding was cancelled because Florence had insisted that Morgak should rent an apartment.

“According to Morgak, it all started like a joke. In about two weeks to the wedding, one faithful day while they were on phone call gisting about their wedding plans. She then ask him a question, where did you say we are going to stay after our wedding. He replied; at Vom. and she ask, with your parents? He answered yes, and further said, but for just two months so i can figure out what next, probably to rent a place in Vom since that’s where i make my earns need. Then he ask, why is she asking him that question when they have discuss about it already. She said she is no longer inline with that agreement and insisted that he must rent a house before the wedding date, with emphasis that the house must be rented in Jos not Vom,” he narrated.

“Politely, he responded; we will rent a house wherever you so wish and desire but after the wedding, because I have a lot of things to put in place at the moment before the wedding date which you’re aware, he said!

“He even went too weird to calculate for her what her family ask him to provide before he comes to pick her the day before the D-Day (eve) and it cost more than 500k (+ T.P) aside from the wedding plan itself.

“Upon that, she still insist that he must rent the house “IF NOT NO WEDDING”. He again reminded her of their agreement to stay for two months in the family house after the wedding before parking out and sequel to that, renting a house now will be more or less economic illiteracy and again at a peak of this hard time, his strength can’t shoulder that burden and it’s too late to go about looking for a house prompt to the wedding date.

“He further said, beside what is the essence of renting a house in Jos when none of them is working or running any business there. He could have consider that option if any of them is working in Jos or running any business there. But she said she is not going to stay in the village and that’s her final.”

BREAKTHROUGH! 54-yr-old grandma receives first pig kidney transplant, mechanical heart

A 54-year-old grandmother has successfully received the first-ever combined pig kidney and mechanical heart pump transplant.

Lisa Pisano, a New Jersey native with end-stage kidney disease and heart failure, was not a candidate for heart and kidney transplant due to the shortage of human organ donations and chronic health conditions that minimized her likelihood of a good outcome.

She said: “All I want is the opportunity to have a better life.

“After I was ruled out for a human transplant, I learned I didn’t have a lot of time left.

“My doctors thought there may be a chance I could be approved to receive a gene-edited pig kidney, so I discussed it with my family and my husband. He has been by my side throughout this ordeal and wants me to be better.”

NYU Langone Health surgeons carried out an innovative two-stage procedure earlier this month in New York. On April 4, they surgically implanted a heart pump called a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) on Pisano.

Then on April 12, they performed a successful gene-edited pig kidney transplant on her. It included a pig’s thymus gland to help against her body rejecting the animal organ.

“It is incredible to consider the scientific achievements that have led to our ability to save Lisa’s life, and what we are endeavoring to do as a society for everyone in need of a lifesaving organ,” stated lead surgeon Robert Montgomery on Wednesday, April 24, when the NYU Langone Health announced the feat.

Montgomery, who performed the world’s first gene-edited pig kidney transplant to a braindead person in 2021, said Pisano’s procedure will “bring closer the possibility that no one will have to die, waiting for someone else to die, so they can be saved”.

Pisano is the second living patient to receive a pig kidney transplant, after Richard Slayman, 62, who also had end-stage kidney disease and was operated in Boston in March (read here).

While Slayman is the world’s first pig kidney transplant patient, Pisano is the first to receive a pig kidney transplant plus a heart pump.

“This unique approach is the first time in the world that LVAD surgery has been done on a dialysis patient with a subsequent plan to transplant a kidney,” stated Nader Moazami, chief of NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s Division of Heart and Lung Transplantation.

“The measure for success is a chance at a better quality of life and to give Lisa more time to spend with her family.”

Pisano’s daughter, Brittany Harvill, said she hopes her mother will soon be able to go home and spend time with her grandkids.

“I saw her for the first time after the surgery – and even this morning,” said Harvill, according to the New York Post. “And she looks like the best she’s looked and sounds in years.”

Benue Assembly urges prosecution of doctor who caused woman’s death

Benue House of Assembly, has called on the state’s Ministry of Health to sanction Dr Michael Ijiko, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Foundation Hospital, Makurdi, for allegedly causing the death of a woman.

Mrs Hembadoon Agashua, was alleged to have died at the hospital under suspicious circumstances.

The Lawmakers made the call via a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Mr Saater Tiseer during plenary on Tuesday.

Moving the motion earlier, Tiseer informed the Lawmakers that Agashua, who was his constituent went to Foundation Hospital for medical treatment on Feb. 14, after complaining of fever.

He explained that she was admitted and was being infused intravenously while medical tests were carried out.

The lawmaker claimed that the woman showed signs of improvement on Feb. 15, when she sat on her bed and chatted freely with her visitors around 10:00 am.

Tiseer explained that the deceased husband said the nurses came for a ward round around 11:00 am and asked everyone except the patient to leave the ward which they did.

The lawmaker said however, that the deceased’s brother-in-law, who is also a medical doctor, came visiting her two hours after the ward round and discovered that she had died.

He further told the legislators that when the deceased’s relatives approached the hospital to inquire about the cause of death, the CMD informed them that he was a gynaecologist, so he did not have contact with the patient.

He said he had called a specialist from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Makurdi to attend to her.

Tiseer said the family was asked to come the following day to interface with Ijiko and the specialist, but that the duo never turned up for the meeting

“Ijiko’s younger brother, Dr Eche Ijiko who was around when the deceased family came also told them that he is a paediatrician, so he did not treat the dead patient.

“The specialist was contacted by the deceased family and he admitted being called by Ijiko to come and treat a patient, but he was told before he could come that the woman had died,’’ Tiseer explained.

He said they were shocked to know that Ijiko later documented that Agashua died of cardiac failure which the family found difficult to believe, since she was neither attended to by the doctors at Foundation Hospital nor the specialist from FMC.

“This was what informed the family’s suspicion that the deceased died of negligence and unprofessional conduct by Ijiko and his staff,’’ Tiseer said.

After contributions from members in favour of the motion, the Assembly unanimously condemned in strong terms the negligence and unprofessionalism exhibited by Ijiko and the management of Foundation Hospital which led to the avoidable death of Agashua.

The Legislators also urged the Ministry of Health to set standards for all private hospitals in Benue which would discourage unprofessionalism.

The Speaker, Mr Hyacinth Dajoh, advised medical practitioners to always place the safety of human lives above financial gains, which he said has become the norm in hospitals.

Ayilara assured the people of Akwa Ibom that he would work with stakeholders to set up strategies to address contemporary security challenges in the state.

  • Iran’s oldest woman, Masoumeh Sanei Toroghi, finally dies at 125

Iran’s oldest woman, Masoumeh Sanei Toroghi, finally dies at 125

In a momentous announcement, the death of Masoumeh Sanei Toroghi, Iran’s oldest woman, has been reported.

Born on September 23, 1898, she died at the astounding age of 125.

Hailing from the city of Mashhad, Toroghi outlived the Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who was previously recognized as the oldest person and died at the age of 122.

    Records and Verification
Iran began documenting family records in 1918, two decades after Toroghi’s reported birth year, making her age at the time of her death a subject of great interest.

In an attempt to verify her age, state TV displayed her identity card.

This isn’t the first time Iran has claimed a record-breaking age for its citizens.

In 2020, local media reported the death of an Iranian Kurd, whose age, as per his identity documents, was stated to be 138 years old.

The title of the world’s oldest person is often disputed due to the complexities involved in verifying such long lifespans.

Despite Iran’s claims, the official record, according to Guinness World Records, is currently held by Maria Branyas Morera of Spain.

Morera, who is set to celebrate her 117th birthday on March 4, has thus far outlived all her contemporaries.

As medical advancements continue to push the boundaries of human lifespan, the lives of individuals like Toroghi and Morera become increasingly significant.

They serve as remarkable reminders of our potential for longevity and the enduring mystery of human life.
