[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Woman, thou art loosed

    Read: Luke 13:10-17

    Meditation verse:

“But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “woman you are loosed from your infirmity.” (Luke 13:12).

    Happy International Women’s Day!

By the time you reach midlife as a woman, you may have gone through several life experiences, some of which may not be so pleasant. The challenges of life can constrict your life or cause you to bend over. Many of us are constricted by the trauma of failed relationships, broken dreams, abuse, hurt, unforgiveness, neglect, infidelity, bottled up emotions, unmet expectations, financial hardship, grief, deceit, divorce, regrets, and several other disappointments. This constriction has diminished our expectations out of life or caused us to give up in certain areas of life.

Some of us have been disconnected from who we were supposed to be because of the things we have gone through. We are angry, frustrated, beaten, overburdened or weary. And we are now bent over by the very many battles we have fought over the years. Being ‘bent over’ is a dangerous posture to adopt; you only see what is beneath you. When you are bent over, you cannot see ahead, your pace is slow, your abilities are diminished, and you would require much effort to accomplish anything worthwhile. The woman in today’s reading had been constricted and bent over by her infirmity for eighteen years. When Jesus saw her, He had compassion on her. He said to her “woman, you are loosed from your infirmity and laid His hands on her, and immediately, she was made straight. He can do the same for you today.

Are you bent over because of an abusive marriage, a cheating spouse, betrayal from a sibling, death of a loved one, unemployment, financial hardship, failed relationships, or neglect from those you expected to be there for you? God wants to make you straight today. Irrespective of how long your condition has been, He is saying to you “woman/man, thou art loosed. What does it mean to be loosed? It means to be set free from the burden of your past. It means to be delivered from the consequences of your mistakes, failures, and wrong choices as well as from the consequences of the actions of other people. Why not cry out to God today. His touch is only a prayer away.

Woman, policeman kill two commercial motorcyclists, passenger in Ondo

There was pandemonium in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Wednesday after three persons were mistakenly killed by a woman and policeman.

According to reports, those who died in the tragic incident were two commercial motorcycle riders and a passenger.

According to witnesses, tragedy struck when a bus said to have been driven by a woman knocked down and killed a commercial motorcycle rider.

This resulted in a protest by other commercial motorcycle riders who blocked the major road, leading to a gridlock in the area.

In the process, the angry motorcycle riders were alleged to have made an attempt to mob the woman who knocked down their colleague.

They were, however, stopped by a yet-to-be-identified policeman attached to a filling station not far from where the accident occurred.

But the situation degenerated when the security operative mistakenly killed another commercial motorcyclist and a passenger.

He was said to have fired some gunshots into the air in a bid to escape from the mob who attacked him while attempting to rescue the woman, but the other two persons were accidentally hit.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the incident.

According to her, the angry protesters later attacked the policeman who escaped from the scene with severe wounds.

“It was a road accident in which a woman driving a car hit and killed a commercial motorcyclist. Then a crowd gathered at the scene and was trying to mob the woman,” said Odunlami.

“The policeman then approached the scene to disperse the crowd and rescue the woman, but the angry crowd mobbed him. It was while he was trying to rescue himself that he shot into the air and incidentally, he misfired.” DSP Funmilayo Odunlami.

The protesters had set a bonfire on the major highway before the arrival of a team of policemen attached to the Division A Police Headquarters in the city.

The officers were able to pacify the protesters and douse the tension while normalcy was restored in the area.

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Woman thou art lose (2)

    By Oke Chinye

    Read: LUKE 13:10–17

    Meditation verse:
“But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, ‘woman you are loosed from your infirmity.’” (Luke 13:12)

As you pray to God to free you from the entanglement, you need to:
Accept God’s forgiveness: When God forgives us, He wipes the slate clean and remembers the offence no more. So, you must accept God’s forgiveness and move on, else you will continually dwell in self-condemnation. That voice of condemnation within you belongs to the devil. The bible calls him the ‘accuser of brethren. Resist him and he will leave you alone (James 4:7).

Forgive yourself: You must first forgive yourself before you can forgive others. You must first settle scores with yourself. You cannot open a new chapter of your life if you keep reliving the previous one. Learn to pardon yourself for the very many ways you may have messed up your life—you did not know any better. If you knew it all, then you would be God. But you are not; you are human.

Forgive others: You must forgive others if you want God to forgive you. “And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors” (Mathew 6:12). You are doing yourself a favour by forgiving others. Forgiveness sets you free; it restores order and wholeness within you. By forgiving them, you are opening your heart to receive God’s blessings.

Act: Lastly, act immediately. The woman with the infirmity worshipped God immediately she was set free, to show her gratitude. Worship is not just singing songs to God; worship is service. What can you do as an act of service? You can reconnect to your God-ordained purpose, you can serve others and you can tell your story as a tool for the restoration of some other person. The Samaritan woman who met Jesus at the well, went and told the story of her encounter to the whole village (John 4:1–25). Mathew 12:43–45 states that when an unclean spirit leaves a person, he goes away looking for a place to dwell, finding none, he returns to the place from which he was cast out. If he finds it empty, he brings seven more wicked spirits to live there. So, occupy your heart with worship.
