  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Woman thou art loosed (1)

    By Oke Chinye

    Read: LUKE 13:10–17

    Meditation verse:
“But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, ‘woman you are loosed from your infirmity.’” (Luke 13:12)

By the time you reach your middle years, you may have gone through several life experiences, some of which may not be so pleasant. The challenges of life can constrict your life or cause you to bend over. Many of us are constricted by the trauma of failed relationships, broken dreams, abuse, hurt, unforgiveness, neglect, infidelity, bottled up emotions, unmet expectations, financial hardship, grief, deceit, divorce, regrets, and several other disappointments. This constriction has diminished our expectations out of life or caused us to give up in certain areas of life.

Some of us have been disconnected from who we were supposed to be because of the things we have gone through. We are angry, frustrated, beaten, overburdened or weary. And we are now bent over by the very many battles we have fought over the years. Being ‘bent over’ is a dangerous posture to adopt; you only see what is beneath you. When you are bent over, you cannot see ahead, your pace is slow, your abilities are diminished, and you would require much effort to accomplish anything worthwhile. The woman in today’s reading had been constricted and bent over by her infirmity for eighteen years. When Jesus saw her, He had compassion for her. He said to her “woman, you are loosed from your infirmity and laid His hands on her, and immediately, she was made straight. He can do the same for you today.

Are you bent over because of an abusive marriage, a cheating spouse, betrayal from a sibling, death of a loved one, unemployment, financial hardship, failed relationships, or neglect from those you expected to be there for you? God wants to make you straight today. Irrespective of how long your condition has been, He is saying to you “woman/man, thou art loosed”. What does it mean to be loosed? It means to be set free from the burden of your past. It means to be delivered from the consequences of your mistakes, failures, and wrong choices as well as from the consequences of the actions of other people. Why not cry out to God today. His touch is only a prayer away.

My mother-in-law asked me to poison my step children – Woman tells court

Ms Christina Jacob told a Makurdi Upper Area Court that her mother-in-law asked her to poison her step-children.

Testifying in a divorce petition, Jacob said that her marriage with Mr Linus Obeya, has broken down irretrievably.

She also prayed the court for custody of their two children.

”I met Obeya sometime in 2010 in Lagos. I got pregnant in 2013 but my husband contracted out the marriage introductions since in Igela tradition, pregnant women can not be married off.

”I endured untold hardship, suffering and starvation while in the marriage both from my mother-in-law and my husband.

“I later discovered that he has four children from different women. When I confronted him he said I should go to hell.

“However, my mother-in-law told me that if I was not ready to stay with her son and his children I should poison them.

Jacob further prayed the court to help her recover her plates, a big generator, chairs, bed, and N150, 000, being money she loaned her husband.

She also asked the court to order the ex husband to continue paying the children school fees and money for upkeep.

In his defence, Obeya, who accepted the request for divorce, urged the court to grant him custody of his children.

”My wife hid the fact that she was a divorcee until she got pregnant in 2013.

“I cook and do everything for her. She threatened to poison me on several occasions.

“Yes, I have four children from three women. I lost one of the children in 2018. All these children have never stayed with us,” he said.

He insisted that Jacob never loaned him a dine.

Magistrate Rose Iyorshe adjourned the case until Oct. 29 for judgment.

  • Woman shoots man to death for rejecting her kiss while drinking at home

Woman shoots man to death for rejecting her kiss while drinking at home

A woman allegedly shot a man to death after he refused to kiss her while they were drinking at a home in Rolling Meadows, Cook County, Illinois on Thursday.

On Oct. 14, Claudia Resendiz-Flores, 28, reportedly shot 29-year-old James Jones in the chest and killed him after he refused to kiss her and instead asked his girlfriend for a kiss while the three of them were drinking at their home in the Woodfield apartment complex in Rolling Meadows, New York Post reported.

Resendiz-Flores reportedly recently moved in with Jones and his girlfriend at the Preserve at Woodfield apartment complex at 4700 Arbor Drive in the northwest suburb.

On Oct. 14, the three of them were reportedly hanging out and drinking at their apartment when Resendiz-Flores allegedly asked Jones for a kiss. However, Jones refused because he was sitting next to his girlfriend, and instead, turned to his girlfriend, asked for a smooch, and kissed her in front of Resendiz-Florez.

Resendiz-Florez, who became jealous after seeing this, reportedly asked Jones’ girlfriend for a kiss. However, she declined to kiss her as well.

Following this, Resendiz-Flores’ demeanor changed and she demanded Jones to kiss her again. However, Jones refused once again and in a fit of rage, an enraged Resendiz-Florez reportedly grabbed Jones’ gun that he had tucked between two couch cushions and aimed it at him. She pulled the safety off and put her finger on the gun’s trigger. Seeing this, Jones tried to push Resendiz-Florez’s arm down but the gun went off, striking Jones once in the chest and killing him, according to Chicago Sun-Times.

Following the incident, Jone’s girlfriend called 911 and alerted them regarding the incident. When the officers responded to the scene, Resendiz-Flores allegedly admitted to shooting and killing Jones. She was charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the Cook County jail without bail. She is expected back in court on Tuesday.

Assistant Public Defender Courtney Smallwood, Resendiz-Florez’s attorney, said during the bond hearing that her client is married but separated from her husband and is the sole caretaker for three young children. Smallwood also reportedly argued that her client was living with her family in Des Plaines and not with Jones and his girlfriend at the time of the murder.

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: A wise woman builds her home

    By Oke Chinwetalu

    Read: PROVERBS 31:10–31

    Meditation verse:
“that our daughters may be as pillars, sculptured in palace style” (Psalm 144:12).

A pillar is a tall vertical structure of stone, wood, or iron, used as a support for a building. Without a pillar, a building will crumble. We started noticing cracks in the walls of our home about a year and a half after we moved in. The cracks increasingly got worse; we knew we had to do something. We called in a structural engineer who discovered a massive structural defect. The master bedroom upstairs was sitting on the parlour downstairs, without any supporting pillar and it was giving way under the weight. We had to move out of our home so everything in the affected areas could be removed. When the wardrobe was removed, the walls behind had almost split in two. The defect was rectified by erecting two big pillars in the parlour to carry the weight of the room upstairs.

“The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands” (Proverbs 14:1). As a woman, you are a support structure in your home, community, or wherever you find yourself. And not just any kind of pillar; sculptured in palace style, standing out, beautifully adorned. Today’s reading portrays a woman who is a pillar in her home and community. She is a manufacturer, seamstress, importer, realtor, employer, manager, and philanthropist. She is focused on the welfare of her husband, children, staff, and community. She eschews laziness and idleness. Surprisingly, nothing is mentioned about the physical appearance of this woman.

The value of something is not in its beauty but its usefulness. A vessel can be beautiful but completely useless, unable to hold down anything. Your worth is neither determined by your appearance nor the value of your car possessions, but by how useful you are to God and those around you. As gold is purified by passing it through fire, the challenges of life are designed to refine you. You are designed to be a polished pillar in your home, standing firm through the challenges and storms of life and emerging stronger. Are you appropriately positioned as a pillar in your home or, is your home in danger of crumbling?

  • If you question the position of man in the family, you are demonic – Mrs Oyedepo

If you question the position of man in the family, you are demonic – Mrs Oyedepo

Pastor Faith Abiola Oyedepo, wife of Dr. David Oyedepo, founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide a.k.a. Winners’ Chapel has said any woman who questions the position of the man in the family is under demonic influence.

Oyedepo stated this via her official Facebook page, saying God expects that just as the Church is subject to Christ in everything, even so, women should be in subjection to their husbands in everything.

In a series of posts she shared via her Facebook page, the wife of the revered man of God stressed that the woman must learn to submit to the man of the home, saying once a woman lays hold on the key of reverence, she has succeeded in unlocking her husband’s heart.

“Any woman or women’s organization that attempts to question the position of the man in the family should be regarded as being under a demonic influence.

“God expects that just as the Church is subject to Christ in everything, even so, women should be in subjection to their husbands in everything.

“Once a woman lays hold on the key of reverence, she has succeeded in unlocking her husband’s heart. You reverence your husband, when his word counts in your ears and heart, and his instructions matter to you,” she shared via her Facebook page.

Speaking on the importance of a right attitude, Oyedepo stated: “The building or destruction of any family is dependent on the woman of the home. As a woman with purpose, walking with a minister in God’s vineyard, you should be a co-builder of his ministry; not pulling it down with your character. Attitude is a very strong force; it controls almost everything in a man’s life.

“Someone made an analogy that if A represents 1 and Z represents 26, adding up the numbers which make up attitude (that is, a=1 + t=20 and so on), will add up to 100.

“He came to the conclusion that your attitude represents 100% of you. That means, it sums up everything about you. It defines your life, what you stand for, what you would achieve and what becomes of you at the end.

“If you sit back to analyse how much has been attracted to you, good or bad, you will realise that your attitude has been one major influence as to why.

“This represents the way you think, act, and interpret situations and circumstances around you. As a wife, you must possess the right attitude towards your husband, your family, the ministry, the brethren and the church of Christ at large.

“This position sets you as a role model to others, who would watch you to either imitate or criticise you. So, you must cultivate godly virtues that would enhance your ministry.

“Attitudes like anger, hatred, malice, bitterness, strife, sulkiness, favouritism and covetousness should be laid aside, while you look on fully for the fruits of the Spirit.

“You are to be a source of joy to many, a life spring, comfort to your husband and an attraction to your ministry. So, let your attitude speak louder than your words”.

  • Being woman in a man’s world is a challenge-Yemi Alade

Being woman in a man’s world is a challenge-Yemi Alade

Popular songstress, Yemi Alade has stated that being a woman in a man’s world is a challenge she has always struggled to overcome.

In an Instagram post on Monday, the crooner said her decision is aimed at inspiring young girls by being the figure they can learn from.

“Being a woman in a man’s world is a challenge I will continue to overcome so the younger girls and ladies have a great example to follow,” she wrote.

Although no one knows what informed her remark, the post comes amid claims of gender discrimination in the Nigerian music industry.

TheNewsGuru recalls that Simi had earlier said female artistes hardly get away with things as their male counterparts do in the industry.

“Women can hardly get away with the kinds of things many men in the same industry get away with on a regular,” she had said.

“When a woman complains about the shit she’s experiencing, I see many people saying ‘what about so and so’ does she have two heads. To me, that’s unfortunate, because everybody’s experience is different.

“Your truth cannot invalidate someone else’s. For every woman that is making it, there are tons of women that have been broken. If u stand up for urself, ‘she’s difficult’. If you’re not a pushover, ‘she’s proud.”

Woman who married at 48 welcomes first child days to 50th birthday

Ladunni Idowu Giwa-Osagie, a Nigerian woman who found love at the age of 47 and got married at 48, has amazingly welcomed her first child a few days to her 50th birthday.

An excited Ifeanyi Omeni, a friend to Ladunni, shared the touching story in a lengthy Facebook post on Monday.

Omeni said she got to know about Ladunni a few years ago on a Christian WhatsApp group for single ladies and was amazed by her amiable personality.

According to her, in 2019, Ladunni had sent a message to the WhatsApp group announcing to members that luck had smiled on her in her search for love.

“I, Oladunni Idowu, finally found love at 47. Join me in appreciating God for his faithfulness and mercy. Indeed, delay is not denial,” Ladunni had written.

Omena added that Ladunni tied the knot with Aigbovo Giwa-Osagie at 48 and became pregnant at 49.

She said that her friend recently welcomed a baby boy called Osarumuwese, which implies that “the Lord has done me well.”

The baby, according to her, was dedicated on June 25 at White Stone event centre, Billingsway Ikeja, Lagos.

“Ladunni’s story follows a trail of triumph. Of a lady who found love at 47, married at 48, got pregnant at age 49 and just before her 50th birthday, gave birth to a baby boy called Osarumuwese – The Lord has done me well; Oluwaseyitanfunmi – the Lord has done this for me in full and Nosakhare – God’s will,” she wrote.

“I attended the GOLDEN CEREMONY OF LADUNNI’S ASCENSION to the fifth floor and the dedication of her son at White Stone Event Centre, Billingsway Ikeja, Lagos, on 25th June 2021, where the guests were bedecked in white, as a symbol of the purity of divine love and the freshness of a new season.”

Omeni revealed that her friend’s story should encourage other ladies in similar situations to maintain their commitment to God despite societal pressure.

“Ladunni’s marriage to Aigbovo Giwa-Osagie, whom I call the husband of the year, is an encouragement to those Christian sisters who are beckoning at compromise, because they feel that God has forgotten them and they want to ‘help’ themselves,” she added.

I cannot be with one woman- Tekno declares

Popular Nigerian singer, Tekno, has opened up on the reason he cannot be with one woman.

The ace singer who has a child with his colleague, Lola Rae, opined that although he wants to be with one woman for the rest of his life, there are so many attractive women around the world.

The ‘Yawa’ crooner stated this in a series of videos on his Instagram stories, “A lot of times, I wonder who is to blame because when I think about it; when I watch a movie or I read a nice story in the novel, it feels good and it seems interesting that a man and a woman spend the rest of their lives together.

“It kind of makes sense. But in reality, it is just weird because I want to love one person and be with them but it is impossible because the women are so beautiful. There are so many beautiful women everywhere around the world.”
