Woman lands in police net for selling her two daughters

The Police in Ogun State have arrested a woman, Blessing Ebuneku Agoro (35) for allegedly selling her two biological daughters who are aged four and two.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect was arrested following a report lodged at the Redeemed Camp divisional headquarters by her husband, Oluwaseyi Agoro.

She was said to have sold the two children to a couple in Port Harcourt at the rate of ₦300,000.

The husband of the suspect reported that he traveled for some time, and when he returned on June 8, he couldn’t find his two daughters.

He stated further that all efforts to make his wife tell him the whereabouts of the children proved abortive, hence his report.

The command’s PPRO said upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Redeemed Camp division Chief Superintendent of Police, Alabi Akinjide detailed his detectives to apprehend the suspect, who had already been with the camp’s Code Of Conduct Department.

“On interrogation, the suspect explained to the police that, her husband left home for the past two years, and while he was away, she found it difficult to cater for the two children and two other children she had with another man.

“She stated further that while she was contemplating on what to do, one Kolawole Imoleayo introduced her to a couple in Port Harcourt who are in dire need of children, and she sold the two daughters to the couple at the rate of ₦300,000.

“Her confession led to the arrest of the said intermediary, Kolawole Imoleayo. They are now both assisting the police in their investigation” the PPRO said.

The Commissioner of Police in the state CP Edward Ajogun has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

He has equally directed that the children must be rescued and brought back to their parents as soon as possible

  • Uproar as Buhari’s aide compares Nigeria to testicles of a ram, woman’s breasts

Uproar as Buhari’s aide compares Nigeria to testicles of a ram, woman’s breasts

Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina on Thursday compared Nigeria to the testicles of a ram and the breasts of a woman, sparking a social frenzy.

Adesina in a statement he shared via social media stated: “As I often say, this country is like the testicles of a ram, which gyrates from side to side, as the animal runs. However fast the speed of the ram, have you ever seen the testicles fall off? Or when a woman runs, and holds her breasts, is it for fear that those tender parts will fall off? It never happens”.

He also made a reference to Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, wishing he be “put in the slammers where he belongs”, while going hard on some persons he described as past and present political leaders, disgruntled religious leaders for their quest to pass vote of no confidence on President Buhari.

The post by Femi Adesina reads: “Don’t asphyxiate us, let us breathe. Remove your knees from the neck of Nigeria, and let the country be. What do we owe you, that you make it seem we must never have peace?

“That was the sum total of the caution given early this week by the Department of State Services (DSS) on the state of the nation. Nigeria is currently undergoing severe security challenges, but rather than team up with government and security agencies to find solutions, some past and present political leaders, disgruntled religious leaders, and ethnic champions are in cahoots, to exacerbate the situation. They are plotting to hold conferences, which would pass vote of no confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari, a man they so much love to hate.

“These agent provocateurs were the first to sow the seed of evil, disharmony and suspicion in the country, through the war of tongues they have deployed against the government of the day for many years. In their estimation, nothing good is happening in the country, except killings and bloodshed. And the only way out, in their narrow minds, is a removal of the constitutional order.

“Now, how do you achieve such in a democracy, without subverting the very essence of democracy itself, and throwing the country into a tailspin? They do not bother, neither do they care. All they want is to get the man they do not want to see out of power. They have deployed everything against him: evil speaking, hate speech, misinformation, disinformation, bile, malignancy, and more. In the build up to the 2019 elections, they banded together, endorsed a candidate, whom they were already calling ‘My President’ before the polls. But what did we see? They were beaten black and blue, as Nigerians opted for a man they could trust.

“What they lost through the ballot box, they have been plotting to get through the back door. Bad-mouth the man, paint him black, portray him as incompetent, and turn the people against him. And they have found a smokescreen in the security challenges the country is facing. They have crept under it, to show their hidden, hostile hands.

“Incidentally, while combating insecurity, and myriads of other challenges, President Buhari is making conquests on other fronts, particularly infrastructure. Roads, bridges, rail network, airports, gas pipelines, other massive projects are ongoing. And they are telling themselves: unless we stop this man, he will still become the authentic Nigerian hero. So they are throwing everything against him, including the kitchen sink.

“There is one funny fellow at the National Assembly, who is always using foul words against the leadership of the country. The more uncouth the words from him, the happier he seems to be. He has, to a large extent, poisoned the minds of people in his region of the country against the government. Evil words inexorably germinate, and bear bitter seeds.

“It was ironic to see the fellow this week talk of massive insecurity in the land, poor state of the economy, and alleged stifling of voices of dissent. This was a character who stood surety for an insurrectionist who then jumped bail. The government has not put the man in the slammers, where he rightly belongs, and he has the temerity to talk of stifling of voices of dissent in the land. Good grief!

“He talked of utilizing all constitutional means to do the needful against the government of the day. Well, every butterfly fancies itself a bird, and the fact that the mangrove tree lives inside the river does not make it a crocodile. Talk is cheap, and dreams cost nothing. The intention of that fellow, and his co-travelers is not really about now. What they are playing is the politics of power grab in 2023, thinking they should muddy the waters before then, as much as possible. When the lobster walks on mud, it stirs it up for everybody. The welfare and well being of the country and its peoples do not matter.

“The disgruntled, caterwauling religious and political leaders are working towards a vote of no confidence in the President. After that, what next? The DSS has indicated support for a united, indivisible Nigeria, stressing that government can only be changed through the electoral process. The military has equally done same, saying it is committed to the present Administration and democratic institutions in the land. Good.

“The military went further: “The current security challenges are not insurmountable. The Armed Forces in partnership with other security agencies are working assiduously to ameliorate the challenges. Nigeria will know peace again.”

“Amen and amen. I can hear you say. This land will know peace again. And yes, this is where those past and present political leaders, religious figures, and chieftains of ethnic groups should have positioned. Instead of shenanigans to pass yeye votes of no confidence in a President doing his level best for the country, they should align with the military in the conviction that “Nigeria shall know peace again.” True, the security challenges are troubling and daunting, but they are not insurmountable. And Nigeria shall win.

“These political, religious and ethnic leaders should please get their knees off the necks of Nigerians, and they should let us breathe. They have arrogated too much influence and authority to themselves, while not knowing that they are mere paper tigers. Nigeria is bigger than them, and the country will survive. As I often say, this country is like the testicles of a ram, which gyrates from side to side, as the animal runs. However fast the speed of the ram, have you ever seen the testicles fall off? Or when a woman runs, and holds her breasts, is it for fear that those tender parts will fall off? It never happens.

“No matter what they do or say, irrespective of their machinations, Nigeria will survive. And peace, flowing like a river, shall return to this land”.

  • Relationship tips: How to attract a woman

Relationship tips: How to attract a woman

Psychologists have noted that eye connection is what a man notices when he first looks at a woman, observing further that although it may vary in some circumstances, eye-contact is likely to be cardinal to getting closer for a relationship.

Beyond the eye-contact, a study published by the Royal Society, a learned society and the UK national academy of sciences, says “average-looking’’ or ugly man, witty, entertaining and imaginative can gain a woman’s attraction.

Sharing similar sentiments, Mrs Ebere-Annabel Chukwu, a graduate of Psychology from Nasarawa State University, says: “as a woman, it is the looks of a man in the area of neatness, good looking that first attract me.’’

According to her, a man will always catch a woman’s attention if he speaks with confidence, has a sense of humour, treats people around him well, has acceptable spirituality and good means of livelihood.

Another respondent, Mrs Grace George, a psychology graduate from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, says the attraction between both sexes is the case of “different strokes for different folks.’’

She says that some women are attracted to men based on physical appearance such as how expensive he looks or smells or how handsome and the physique of such a man.

She notes that some women love men based on their skin colour, while others look out for physical cash, man’s personality in the society and others look beyond that.

“There are men with overwhelming presence; they exude charm and gait from within and may not even be intentional, rather, they are naturally gifted,’’ she observes.

For some women, good looks and money attracts them, while for other wit, inherent charm, warmth and creativity is the attraction.

Mr Moses Emorinke, Psychology graduate from University of Benin, says women usually need men who are responsible and averagely okay.

According to him, most women don’t care if their men are handsome or not, what they care about is for the man to be able to take care of them financially, emotionally and otherwise.

He observes that some women usually want men who can make them laugh, smile, understand their inner emotions, and fulfil their dreams and aspirations.

For most men, it is the physical beauty and the healthy combination of attitude (humility), intelligence and enterprise of a woman that attract them.

Mrs Tina Oni, a beautician, believes that beauty or handsomeness does not only attract the opposite sex to another but money does, especially in this present age.

Oni says most men or women ascertain the financial stability of their admirer before accepting him or her because nobody wants to suffer, not bearing in mind the consequences when the money was no longer there.

“You will see a teenager going for an old man or a young man going for an older woman all in the name of money, they desire to be wealthy as well with their influence,’’ she explains.

Mrs Chioma Jude, a nurse, says a force normally brings two people together but there are underlying factors of attraction and beauty happens to be one of them.

“Beauty is a very strong force, when we talk about beauty, it does not stop at facial looks, it may be certain parts of the body that the opposite sex would see and immediately get attracted to a woman or man.

“Some men like a lady’s confidence and poise, her intelligence, both sexes are attracted to very intelligent people.

“When an intelligent woman is confident, who would not want to be with such a woman, when a person is intelligent she or he is attracted to people,’’ she observes.

A study, conducted on mice, revealed that a subset of neurons in the hypothalamus — a brain region — drives both attraction to the opposite sex and sexual behaviour.

Researchers have also found that it is the work of a brain hormone called kisspeptin that drives both attractions to the opposite sex and sexual behaviours.

Kisspeptin has already been identified as the key molecule within the brain responsible for triggering puberty and controlling fertility.

The findings show that puberty, fertility, attraction and sex are all controlled by a single molecule — kisspeptin — but through different brain circuits running in parallel with one another

Similarly, April Bleske-Rechek at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, in her study found that guys are more likely to define a female friend as “a member of the opposite sex to whom I am attracted and would pursue given the opportunity’’ and ladies to define their opposite-sex friends as simply “a friend of the opposite sex’’.

This is explained in her research article; `Sex Differences in Young Adults’ Attraction to Opposite-Sex Friends: Natural Sampling versus Mental Concepts.

Bleske-Rechek notes that the opposite-sex just-friendships are “a bit of an evolutionary novelty” for young adults.

She concludes that men have greater attraction to their opposite-sex friends than women do.

When undergraduates are asked about a close, cross-sex friend, the males score significantly higher on scales measuring how much they thought their friends are physically attractive.

Also, another study of undergrads indicates when respondents are asked to think about their “closest, most important opposite-sex friend who is not a long-term romantic partner,’’ males report higher physical attraction and sexual desire than women.

  • Woman breakdowns in church while fasting, dies in Lagos hospital

Woman breakdowns in church while fasting, dies in Lagos hospital

The family of a woman, Joy Owoyele, is in sorrow after she died during a 14-day fasting in the Isheri Olofin area of Lagos State.

According to reports, Owoyele had sought spiritual help regarding her matrimonial challenges at the Christ Apostolic Church, Ori-Oke Gbogunmi, aka Ajanpelenbe Mountain, located on Pipeline Road, Isheri Olofin.

She was said to have been placed on 14-day fasting and prayer, but on the 10th day, things took a tragic turn as she suddenly collapsed after the morning prayers inside the church.

The pastor, Alfred Sunday, said after Owoyele lost consciousness during the spiritual exercise, she was rushed to the Igando General Hospital for treatment, adding that she died in the process.

Sunday said, “She came for prayers and nothing more. Before the day of the incident, we held a vigil and she was fine. Her fasting was supposed to be for 14 days, but the incident happened on the 10th day. God is my witness, there is nothing hidden here.

“Her daughter, Oluwatise, was also with her in the church during the spiritual exercise and they always slept together. The incident happened around 7am. I was praying on the altar when one of the church members informed me that she had passed out.

“When I moved closer to assess her, I observed that she could not stand up and when I called her name, she answered faintly. We had to rush her to the Igando General Hospital for treatment, but she died.” Sunday told Punch.

The cleric noted that he went to the Idimu Police Station to report the sad occurrence, adding that during investigation, the police imprisoned him and the General Overseer of the church.

He stated, “When I reported the incident, the police took my statement and that of the victim’s daughter. But the General Overseer and I were detained for three days and the police also visited the church to conduct an investigation.

“But the family insisted on not pressing any charge and after the police investigation, we were released. I met with the woman’s family immediately after the incident and they accepted what happened as fate.

“During the spiritual exercise, she was fasting and praying, and usually broke her fasts with honey and water. But on the 10th day, she became very weak and we had to rush her to hospital to save her, but she died.

“After the incident, we insist that anyone embarking on fasting and prayer in the church must break with pap instead of honey and water that we usually use. Anyone who refuses won’t be allowed to embark on the spiritual exercise in the church.”

A source also revealed that Owoyele had been fasting and praying persoanlly over her botched marriage before she sought spiritual help in the church.

“The woman’s daughter said she was in the habit of running from pillar to post in search of spiritual help so that her husband, who had abandoned her and her daughter for seven years, could return,” the source said.

Woman kills own baby, dumps corpse in Ogun river

Operatives of the Ogun State police command have arrested a 35-year-old woman, Sukurat Olajoke, for allegedly killing her own one-month-old baby and dumping the corpse in a river.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday by a team of police officers on patrol.

The spokesman of police in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said policemen at the Enugada division, Abeokuta, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Baba Hamzat, saw the woman while she was throwing something suspicious into the river.

According to him, the suspicious behaviour of the woman after throwing the object into the river attracted the policemen, who quickly apprehended her for questioning.

Oyeyemi said the woman, who hails from Igbo Ora, Oyo State, when interrogated, confessed that she killed the baby and threw the body into the river.

She blamed her action on frustration, Oyeyemi said.

“It was on interrogation that the suspect, who lives at the Agboole Alakoye area of Igbo Ora in Oyo State, confessed that what she threw into the river was the corpse of her one-month-old baby, whom she killed out of frustration.
