A lot of women are doing almost better than men now- Omotola Jalade Ekeinde

Star actress, Omotola Jalade has revealed that a lot of women are doing better than men.

The beautiful role interpreter noted that Nigeria is also ready for a female president. She made this known in a chat with Punch.

“What else do we need to be as women? You have to agree with me that a lot of women are doing almost better than men now. We all know that women are now in charge of some households and we all know that women are good at organising as well as handling responsibilities. I think Nigeria is ready for a female president.”

Speaking further, she also urged Nigerian youths to check the track records of those they will be voting for.

“I am very impressed with the participation of young people in politics today. Years ago, these people were not interested in politics. But I don’t think we should vote for people because they are young, as it will be misleading. We must ensure they are credible by asking questions. I think we should look out for their track records.

“I urge Nigerians not to allow people to intimidate them again. They shouldn’t vote for people because they feel they will win. Instead, vote for someone you believe in even though the person will get only two votes. We cannot continue to choose the lesser evil; we have to desist from that.”

  • 2019: Edo APC women pass vote of no confidence on Oshiomhole

Some aggrieved women of Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday unanimously passed a vote of no confidence on the National Working Committee of the party for allegedly promoting nepotism and tyranny in the party.

Addressing journalists in Benin on Friday, the women accused the leadership of party, led by its National Chairman and former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, of allegedly subverting the aspirations of female party members with impunity.

They also said that the controversial primaries conducted by the NWC “without recourse to equity, justice and fair play” exposed the APC as “a party of hawks, swallowing chickens as its prey.”

The coordinator of the aggrieved group and State Organising Secretary of the party, Aisosa Amadasun, noted that female aspirants across the state were not only subjected to harrowing experiences, by being charged exorbitant fees for the collection of nomination forms, but also screened out, even when they were “eminently qualified.”

Amadasun lamented that about 10 women from the three senatorial districts were denied tickets by the national leadership of the APC, in spite of their sacrifices.

She said, “The level of impunity has assumed a frightening dimension under the leadership of our national chairman, who once prided himself as an apostle of change and the curative medicine to ‘godfatherism’.

The primaries conducted so far by the leadership of the APC across the 36 states of the country are not only shameful, disgraceful, undemocratic, and a charade, but also threw many states into mayhem and shocked the foundation of the party and out it on the edge of a precipice.

Any party that fails to recognise the inputs of women and reward them with positions commensurate to their painstaking efforts to ensure victory is not only doomed but will suffer defeat.”

She, however, vowed that the women would no long play second fiddle to the men who used them as “campaign tools”.

She also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to take pragmatic steps to remedy the injustice done to them, adding that proper reconciliation was needed to ensure victory for the party in the 2019 general elections.

Men now date women for money- Ini Edo

Sensational actress, Ini Edo is back from her acting hiatus and ready to unveil her collaborative movie with Uche Jumbo titled ‘Heaven on my mind’.
The Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Culture and Tourism noted that men now date women for money, adding that the issue has to be addressed.
“Men of these days are not what they used to be. But the issues are not addressed. Nobody is talking about it. That’s why Uche Jombo and I took that up and made it the theme of our new movie.
Ironically, prostitution has reduced drastically. Young girls now go into different kinds of small-scale businesses like makeup, hair dressing and creams making. They now hustle more to make a living but I can’t say the same thing for men. I’m sorry but that’s the truth. For some men, their job is to move around from one woman to another for money. It’s like a full time job for them and nobody is addressing the issue. Don’t get me wrong, not all men do it, but some of them”, she stated in a chat with The Sun.

The Permanent Representative of Nigeria to ECOWAS, Amb. Babatunde Nurudeen, stated this while making Nigeria’s presentation on ‘Advancement of Women’ to the UN General Assembly in New York.
Nurudeen said: “The advancement of women remains a critical issue for continuous engagement and calls for action-related measures for the achievement of national and international policies capable of promoting and enhancing their fundamental rights.
“Nigeria under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari is unequivocally committed to the advancement of women rights, gender equality, empowerment of women through eradication of poverty, prohibition of trafficking in women and girls, elimination of violence and discrimination against women”‘.
He also said Nigeria had developed a National Gender Policy aimed at eliminating gender discrimination, and promoting political, economic and social opportunities in the public and private sector for women.
The Nigerian envoy said in furtherance of the objectives of the UN Security Council Resolution 1235, Nigeria has launched its Second National Action Plan of the Council’s resolution.
He said: “To reinforce government’s commitment to the eradication of all forms of violence against women, Nigeria has adopted a programme on Stop-Violence Against Women in Election (VAWIE).
“The adoption is with the objective of mitigating violence against women and demonstrating the link between gender-based electoral violence vis-à-vis the reduced participation of women in the political landscape.
“To facilitate its full implementation, a special contingent of VAWIE monitors are deployed to man designated situation room at various election centres for the purposes of collating and reporting cases of electoral violence against women during any election in the country”.
In the area of women empowerment, Nurudeen said the Nigerian Government had introduced an empowerment programme to disburse $1.66 million micro-credit lending to businesses at the bottom of the financial pyramid.
This has created an array of women entrepreneurs in the country, especially given the soft conditions of zero collateral, zero interest and only five per cent administrative fee attached to the loans, he said.
In combating gender-based violence in humanitarian emergencies, he said the government recently unveiled a ‘Road Map on Call to Action on Protection from Gender Based Violence in Emergencies’.
The Road Map, he said, provided a model and standard operating procedures aimed at ensuring that women and girls are protected from violation in conflict situation.
He said the Plan had been further externalised with its subsequent launch, during the Oslo II/Berlin Conference on the Lake Chad, held in Berlin in September.
The Nigerian envoy said the launch had given further impetus for the international recognition of the Roadmap as a model for preventing gender based violence during humanitarian and emergency situation.
According to him, Nigeria acknowledges the pivotal role of its women in achieving accelerated national economic growth and development.
He added that the country attached importance to realising demographic dividend and gender equality in all spheres of our national development plans.
Nurudeen announced that Nigeria had been selected as one of the three pilot countries for the ‘Demographic Dividend with a Gender Dimension for 2018-2022’.

CNN uncovers Paris park where Nigerian women forcefully engage in prostitution (Video)

The Bois de Vincennes, a sprawling park on the outskirts of eastern Paris, is home to horse riding schools and a zoo which has also been part-commandeered by human traffickers and sex slaves.
The sex slaves are brought from various African countries, but 80 percent of whom are Nigerian women who are made to stand by the park, waiting for customers.
The women who have no identity and means of escaping their predicament for several reasons, return the money they made to their traffickers at the end of the day.
9 out of 10 women in the park are not free women, belonging to a network of human traffickers.
It was gathered that selling sex is reportedly not a crime in Paris but buying is. Hence, these women freely line the streets in very revealing outfits, waiting for men who need their services.
When prison police were asked how this could be allowed to continue, they told CNN there simply isn’t very much they can do, adding that the women are afraid to talk to them because of the networks and they say they’re moved around Europe very often.

  • I’m confident Nigerian women will vote me again in 2019 – Buhari

…says challenges encountered since assuming office in 2015 have turned to dividends

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday praised Nigerian women for electing him to office and standing by his administration since its inception in 2015.

The president also said the various challenges facing the country since the inception of his administration had given way to dividends.

Buhari said these in an address he delivered at the Women Political Aspirants Summit held in Abuja.

The summit was organised by the National Council of Women Societies, Women in Politics Forum and the National Centre for Women Development in collaboration with Office of the Wife of the President.

The President said the dividends being offered by his administration would translate to improved welfare for Nigerians and better amenities.

“Let me use this opportunity to state that the challenges we have witnessed since 2015 have given way to dividends, which can only increase considerably and translate to better infrastructure, more jobs and more food on the tables of Nigerians,” the President said.

Buhari described Nigeria as a country of opportunities and possibilities blessed with productive and skilled manpower, coupled with resources still being harnessed.

He said with the right leadership at all levels, appropriate mindset and strong institutions, Nigeria could attain great heights.

Buhari noted that women constitute more than 50 percent of voters and, according to him, are by experience more dedicated and principled than their male counterparts.

He said politicians relied on female voters because their word was usually their bond.

“Women stand by candidates they believe in all the way so politicians do a lot to gain their confidence.

“On this note, let me recall and thank Nigerian women who put their confidence in me and voted for me in 2015.

“It is my hope that the confidence is still there; seeing this gathering. I am confident that it will remain,” he said.
