4,000 youths, women benefit from Edo employment scheme–Coordinator

No Fewer than 4,000 women and youths have benefited from the Edo State Employment and Expenditure for Result (SEEFOR), the coordinator of the scheme has said.

Mr Fergusen Enabulele, Assistant Project Coordinator, stated this on Thursday in Benin during a routine monitoring of projects.

According to him, 4,000 women and youths are currently under the employment of the SEEFOR project in the state.

Enabulele said 26 sub-projects were completed between 2014 and 2015 under the public works sub-component of the SEEFOR.

He also explained that another 45 of the projects were currently at various stages of completion across the three senatorial districts.

“The projects were executed to support the state government in asset creation and provision of employment to the youths in the state,’’ he said.

He enjoined the youths to re-dedicate themselves to duty to justify their remuneration.

  • Why are women so brainless? – Ovuorie

    By Tobore Ovuorie

Her husband walked out on her in 2012. He moved on to another waist, I hear, in Abuja. He didn’t leave a pin for her and their five children.

    She phoned his mother.

“You just have to manage and train them. That’s what I did when his father too walked out on us when your husband and siblings were still babies. I singlehandedly raised them” her mother-in-law advised.

PROBLEM: She was a sit at home mum. He never allowed her to use her university degree to work.

She was my neighbour. I hate seeing women being maltreated. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not voltron- defender of the universe, I’ve been maltreated too.

So, I called on other ladies let’s help this sister. They agreed. And the journey began that 2012.

We donated food, rent money, school fees for the kids and everything. Then, helped her get a job. But the help continued for her pay wasn’t enough to solely train five kids.

I had told her to come collect additional items for Christmas. I direly need money myself for I’ve tender mouths to feed, shelter, etc but shouldn’t stop me from reaching out.

She has FIVE daughters. I’m always scared of what deprivation could do to girls. So, she was to come take stuffs from my house before moving to the houses of the other ladies in our group.

She woke me few minutes ago. After exchanging the initial compliments, I told her to proceed to the guest room where the a-little-above-quarter bag of rice and clothes are, then check the kitchen for whatever she wanted.

    I left for my room.

Few minutes later, she came to me smiling one kain (somehow )

“Aunty Tobore, can I take extra rice?”

I wondered what she meant. She’s never asked such funny question. “The rice is there naa mummy Joyce” I answered.

“I don’t mean the usual amount. If I take the extra for my husband which will last all of us until January, nothing will be left for you. Thought I should first tell you”.

Her taking the extra isn’t my problem. I’ve not eaten rice at home in a very long time. I even planned giving her the stew in my fridge.

    The husband was the problem.

“Husband?!” I removed my eyeglasses, sat up in bed, eyes popping out of my sockets already irritated while reducing the volume of the TV.

    “Yes Aunty”

“But???” My mouth opened and nothing came out.

“Yes, Aunty. He came back last month”

    “Haaa! Last month?!”

“Yes. That’s why our last month food and money didn’t last. He ate out of it. Since he eats breakfast, lunch and dinner, the food doesn’t last. And he collects money from me to go out”.

    I was boiling. Now, I’m a furnace.

I’m angered to know I sponsored an irresponsible idiot while I had nothing and was dying in the hospital last month.

I’m disgusted to know a woman with such gory maltreatment could accept the goat back as if nothing happened.

I’m not voltron, but when a man maltreats me and the kids, he must never return, for he’s lost every right. Even picture of the kids, he won’t see.

I’m irritated for too many reasons.

    I phoned the other ladies.

    They all screamed in disbelief.

They are on their way to my house.

An emergency meeting will hold soon.

My hangout at the pool with Dammie Ojekunle and Emeka ‘Emeka Anozie MIGHT be affected.

    I’m boiling.

But wondering why many women are so brainless?

Men don’t tend to express themselves as well as women, so we got talking to some men around to get their real-life insights on the male way of thinking. Basically, What do men wish women knew?

Here are 10 collective truths all women need to know now.

    1. Support their sport team

No man wants a rolling-eyed GF when it comes to watching the game. If you appreciate sports and support his team (even if you have to pretend) he’ll love you that much more for it.

    1. Be your natural self

Men like it when girls doll up, but believe it or not, they love it even more when you’re natural. Hair down, makeup free and not a care in the world – that’s when you’re most beautiful.

    3. Constant nagging

Women are generally more expressive than men, but that doesn’t mean we’re entitled to moan and b*tch all the time! Quit nagging him for unnecessary things or you’ll push him away.

    1. Getting dressed

Don’t bother asking your man if he likes what you’re wearing. Firstly, they never know what the right answer is and secondly, he’s always going to say yes (unless he wants a war).

    1. Self-respect

A bit of self-dignity and self-confidence in who you are and what you want is HOT! If you can’t respect yourself, he won’t respect you.

    1. Other ladies

Not always, but sometimes, men will picture other girls when they think about or have sex. Again, it’s a male thing. Don’t take it too seriously.

    1. Learn the right way to give a hand job

Sure it feels good, but you’re still not getting him there. Quit thinking you’re going to hurt him. Guys like it when girls are more aggressive. They said it, not us.

    1. The threesomes

Yes, men will think about having a threesome with you and other women, but they don’t expect you to act upon it. It’s a fantasy – chill out.

    1. Don’t get him overstuffed

We’re all about being open here, but there are some things you should keep to yourself. He doesn’t want to know about it. OK?

    1. Don’t be paranoid

Lastly, a combination of paranoia, selfishness, and impatience can make a woman act in strange psychotic ways. Don’t be the “psycho boo”.

Women pressure men into acts of corruption- NCWS President

Mrs Gloria Shoda, President, National Council of Women’s Societies (NCWS), has said that pressure from women push men into acts of corruption.

She made the statement on Wednesday in Abuja at the launch of the Nigerian Women Against Corruption (WAC) Project organised by the EFCC in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the President. She disagreed with the popular belief that women are not corrupt, saying it was pressures mounted by women that push the men into acts of corruption.

Shoda said: “they say women are not corrupt, but I have a different opinion. Corruption starts at home, and women are the people that make the men corrupt.

“You sow the seed of corruption by pressuring your husband for “aso-ebi’’, comparing him to others, and hiding to bribe your children with money.

“You drive corruption by buying cars for your female children attending universities, and by marching to the police station to report teachers for cautioning your children in school.

“Those of you who are traders, short-change your customers by manipulating the measures you use in selling rice and `garri;’ is that not corruption?

“You go to your husband’s pocket when he is asleep and steal some money; is that not corruption?’’

The NCWS president said women could help their husbands stop corruption by questioning the sources of their money when they begin to live above their means.

Shoda added that corruption could be stopped in schools when lost values were restored, and when women allowed their children to study for their examinations.

While noting that corruption was rampant in institutions of learning, she advised women to regularly visit their children in school to know how they lived outside the home.

She also advised women to reduce their flamboyant lifestyles and learn to live within their means.

The guest speaker and former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mariam Mukhtar, concurred with the views expressed by Shoda.

In a paper titled, “Women: The Missing Link in the Fight Against Corruption,’’ Mukhtar said that women were not completely blameless in the unfortunate corruptuion situation in the country.

She said; “In keeping with the Joneses, women contribute to corruption by pressurising their husbands to live above their means.

“Men in order to please and satisfy their spouses bow and succumb to corrupt practices.

Former Chairman of the EFCC, Mrs Farida Waziri, said that the war against corruption required collective effort, as the commission and the Presidency could not do it alone.

Waziri said that nobody is safe with corruption, adding that nations fail when money meant for development is channeled into private pockets.

“Corruption makes countries become banana republics, leading to dissatisfaction and misery that result in terrorism and anarchy because people are robbed of basic necessities of life.

“When our monies are taken to save havens abroad it becomes so difficult to recover them, and that is why other countries spend so much to prevent these monies from going out.

“We have seen Nigeria at its worst. Today, there is recession, it has never been like this because monies were taken away into private pockets,’’ she said.

The former EFCC boss questioned the sanity of corrupt Nigerians who buy houses in different parts of the world, but end up putting up in hotels whenever they visit those countries.

She reiterated her call for psychiatric examinations to be conducted on individuals before they are elected or appointed into public office.

Waziri commended the EFCC for engaging women in the fight against corruption, noting that by deploying women, the commission was employing the most influential people in the society. (NAN)
