Watch moment Coach Jorge Vilda of Spain touched a female staff bre*st during World Cup final celebration [VIDEO]

A video has emerged showing the moment the coach Jorge Vilda of Spain, was seen touching a female staff on her bre*st at the Women’s World Cup final celebration between Spain and England.

The video was captured seconds after Olga Carmona’s 29th-minute goal against the Lionesses.

In similar vein the Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales has been criticized after he was caught k!ssing Jenni Hermoso on the winners’ podium following his country’s win over England in the World Cup final.

This has led to calls for his resignation.

  • ‘I made a mistake’- Spanish soccer chief apologizes for giving Women’s World Cup winner a kiss on lips

‘I made a mistake’- Spanish soccer chief apologizes for giving Women’s World Cup winner a kiss on lips

Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) President Luis Rubiales has admitted he “made a mistake” by giving Spain star Jennifer Hermoso a surprise kiss on the lips after the 33-year-old received her gold medal following the team’s Women’s World Cup final victory over England on Sunday.

Rubiales has faced widespread criticism for the incident, with politicians and journalists labeling his behavior “unacceptable” and “simply disgusting.”

“There’s an event, which I have to regret, which is everything that happened between the player and I, with a magnificent relationship between the two of us, the same as with the others,” the RFEF boss said in a video statement.

“And well, I surely made a mistake, I have to recognize that. In a moment of elation, without any intention of bad faith, well, what happened happened – I think in a very spontaneous way. I repeat, there was no bad faith between either of the two of us.

“Here, we didn’t understand it because we saw something natural, normal and in no way, I repeat, with bad faith. But outside of the bubble, it looks like it has turned into a storm and so, if there are people who have felt offended, I have to say I’m sorry.”

Rubiales was on stage for FIFA’s awards ceremony following the final, along with other dignitaries, including soccer’s world governing body president Gianni Infantino, Spain’s Queen Letizia and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Video shows Rubiales embracing Hermoso, then putting both hands on her head before kissing her. He then pats her on the back as she walks away.

“Hey, I didn’t like it, eh,” says Hermoso as she apparently answers questions about the incident in an Instagram live video – a clip of which was shared by Spanish journalist Irati Vida on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Later in the Instagram live video – taken in Spain’s locker room – Hermoso fields a question from another woman: “But what were you doing, sis?” The 33-year-old replies: “But what am I supposed to do?”

On the radio program ‘El Tiempo de Juego’ on Cadena COPE, Hermoso spoke of the kiss on Sunday, saying “she didn’t expect it” but that “it was because of the emotion of the moment, there’s nothing more there. It’s just going to be an anecdote [of the time]. I’m absolutely sure it won’t be blown up more.”

Asked by Radio Marca about the incident with Hermoso, Rubiales replied: “The kiss with Jenni? There are idiots all over. When two people have a moment of affection without any importance, we can’t listen to idiocy. We’re champions and I stay with that.”

In his apology, Rubiales acknowledged he should “be more careful” when representing the RFEF as president at ceremonies and other important events.

He also followed up on his “idiocy” remark, explaining he saw it that way because “within the bubble, no one gave it the slightest bit of importance, but well, outside they have, right?

“So I also want to say sorry to these people because I understand that, if outside it was seen in a different light, surely they have their reasons,” he added.

Rubiales finished by saying he was “hurt” that this incident has cast a shadow over the team’s victory, describing it as one of the country’s greatest sporting successes.

“I think that we have to give all of the merit to these women, to the team led by Jorge Vilda and we have to celebrate it to the skies as much as we can,” he said.

    Mounting criticism
On Monday, Spanish political party SUMAR called for Rubiales’ resignation, while Spain’s Minister of Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta, told RTVE that the kiss was “unacceptable.”

“I think it’s unacceptable to kiss a player on the lips to congratulate her. And as far as I’ve seen … I think it has to be said. We all deserve respect,” Iceta said. “I think, first of all, what he has to do is give an explanation and show his reasoning. I think that’s the logical and rational thing.”

After Spain’s victory on Sunday, Alberto Ortega, of the Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, posted on X that, “Rubiales taking the trophy from the players to give it to Queen Leticia and kissing Jennifer Hermoso on the mouth is simply disgusting.”

“A new demonstration of the need to suck the camera [be the center of attention] and be the protagonist when it is not his turn,” added Ortega.

World Championships: Nig crash out of 4x400m mixed relays

Nigeria’s group consisting of Dubem Nwachukwu, Patience Okon George, Ezekiel Nathaniel, and Imaobong  Nse Uko will not be continuing in the 4x400m mixed relay event at this year’s World Athletics Championships. This decision comes after their 7th-place finish in Heat 2.

Although they managed to achieve a season-best time of 3:14:38, it proved insufficient to secure any of the available non-automatic qualification positions.

Nwachukwu delivered an impressive performance in the lead leg despite being in the 9th lane, yet once Okon took over, Nigeria began to lose ground. Uko, who ran the anchor leg, was unable to improve upon the position that Nathaniel had achieved when passing the baton to her.

JUST IN: First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu gifts Super Falcons N176m cash

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has announced a $230,000 (approximately N176 million) cash gift for the Super Falcons of Nigeria, following their performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls Tinubu hosted the Super Falcons to a reception on Monday, at which only three out of the 23 players that went to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup were present.

Already, those present during the reception, who included Onomi Ebi, Tochukwu Oluehi and Ucheibe Christy, have been given their share of the $230,000 ($10,000 each).

According to a source privy to the development, the 20 other players, who were on the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup roaster and were not able to make the reception, have been asked to forward their account details to the First Lady.

“I am made to understand that the 3 players -@EBIONOME, @TOluehi and @UcheibeC, received by @oluremitinubu at Aso Rock, were given $10,000 each. And the same amount is to be given to the other 20 players that were on the #Aus roaster.

“I am told that @thenff has been asked to prepare the account details of the 20 players and send them to the presidency, who will reportedly make direct payments to the players,” the source disclosed via X, formerly known as Twitter.

Earlier, the First Lady had during the reception applauded the Super Falcons for displaying thorough sportsmanship at the FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

TNG reports that the Super Falcons had on Aug. 7, crashed out of the tournament, having lost through penalties to England.

Oluremi said the professionalism displayed on the field by the players gladdened her heart, that of President Bola Tinubu, and many Nigerians even as they did not get the trophy.

“The dedication and resilience you displayed on the field has earned Mr President and other Nigerians immense respect and admiration.

“This could only have been accomplished through good team spirit, handwork and discipline.

“Although the final result did not go our way, victory is not solely determined by the result on the field, however, the unbreakable spirit and unity that you demonstrated are true markers of success.

“The entire world noticed the unwavering strength and zeal that defines Nigeria through the posterity you displayed on the soccer field.

“I celebrate all of you for displaying high level of true sportsmanship on the pitch.

“You have not only represented Nigeria on the global stage but you have also become role models for our youths, especially young girls who now see their aspiration mirrored in you,“ she said.

Meanwhile, during the reception, the President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau addressed issues surrounding entitlements accrued to the Super Falcons.

On behalf of the team, Gusau thanked the first lady and President Bola Tinubu for their support before, during and after their performance at the tournament.

He promised that all the entitlements of the team and their officials shall be paid accordingly.

“I want to express our gratitude to you for being part of the send off organised for the team before their departure to Australia, it really serves as a morale booster to the team.

“By reason of their round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup, the players will earn a sum of 60,000 dollars each, the NFF really wanted the team to go further in order for the players to earn more money which they truly deserve.

“I want to assure that the players and the officials will be paid all their entitlements as soon as we receive the world cup money from FIFA.

The Captain of the team, Onome Ebi, also appreciated the first lady and the president for their support, especially with the dinner and for the warm reception.

“I feel happy about our performance at the same time, sad because it was not what we planned to achieve but I and my teammates showed the world that we wanted to get to the last.

“However, it is unfortunate that it happened that we were knocked down by penalty which is so emotional to us because we aimed so higher.’’

2023 FIFA Women’s WC: Australia to declare public holiday

Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese has said that he would support a public holiday if the Australian women’s soccer team, the Matildas, win the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Australia and New Zealand are the co-hosts of the 2023 FIFA world Cup and the Maltildas have reached the semi-final of the competition.

New South Wales Premier, Chris Minns, has said he would support the idea, telling 2GB that a Women’s World Cup win would be life-changing for the state’s history.

“If the Matildas win the semi-final and then win the World Cup final, then yes we will pursue a public holiday in NSW, not just to celebrate the victory but also to have a massive civic celebration and allow the Matildas to celebrate with the people of Sydney what will be an amazing, like, life-changing and unbelievable event in the state’s history,” he said.

The Matildas are set to play against England in the semi-final on Wednesday, before the final on Sunday. Minns, who believes a public holiday could be an economic win for the state, said the day off would not occur on the Monday immediately after the game, but would happen within a week of the win – should it happen.

  • What Lauren James said after standing on Alozie’s butt

What Lauren James said after standing on Alozie’s butt

Lauren James has apologized to Super Falcons’ Michelle Alozie for the incident which led to her being sent off on Monday.

James was sent off during England’s last-16 FIFA Women’s World Cup win over Nigeria and vowed to learn from the experience.

The forward was dismissed for deliberately standing on the back of the Nigeria defender, with three minutes of normal time remaining in Brisbane.

England survived the dismissal to advance to the quarter-finals 4-2 on penalty kicks after the game finished goalless following extra time.

In response to a tweet from Alozie, James posted: “All my love and respect to you. I am sorry for what happened.

“Also, for our England fans and my team-mates, playing with and for you is my greatest honour and I promise to learn from my experience.”

James will miss Saturday’s quarter-final against Colombia in Sydney due to an automatic one-match ban.

The suspension could be extended to three games by FIFA’s disciplinary committee, meaning she would be unavailable for the remainder of the tournament.

England believe the incident was “wholly out of character” and intend to make representation on the 21-year-old’s behalf during the disciplinary process.

“Lauren is really sorry for her actions which led to the red card and is full of remorse,” an England statement read. “It is wholly out of character for her.

“We will be supporting Lauren throughout and will be putting forward representation on her behalf.

“We fully respect FIFA’s disciplinary process and will not be making any further comment until after any decision has been made.”

James became the fourth England player to be sent off in a World Cup knockout match after David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and current Lionesses captain Millie Bright.

England coach Sarina Wiegman admitted James had “lost her emotions” during a moment of indiscretion.

Alozie had earlier tweeted in defence of James.

She posted: “Abeg (Please), rest. We are playing on the world’s stage. This game is one of passion, insurmountable emotions, and moments. All respect for Lauren James.”

  • W/World Cup: Germany crash out after draw with Korea Republic

W/World Cup: Germany crash out after draw with Korea Republic

Germany were sent crashing out of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup following a frustrating 1-1 draw with Korea Republic in Brisbane on Thursday.

The Taeguk Ladies took the lead after just six minutes through Sohyun Cho, only for Alex Popp to level late in the first half.

Very shortly after, though, Morocco took the lead in their game against Colombia.

This meant Germany needed to find a goal which never came – therefore condemning the Europeans to a first-ever group-stage exit.

Korea Republic came flying out of the traps and almost took the lead in the opening minutes.

This was when Casey Phair was sent through, but she saw her effort turned on to the post by Merle Frohms.

Die Nationalelf didn’t heed that warning, though, and just minutes later,  Cho was put clear via a defence-splitting pass from Youngju Lee and made no mistake in finding the bottom-left corner.

Germany, knowing they were heading home as it stood, were dragged level late in the first half by inspirational captain Popp.

This was after she rose highest from a deep Svenja Huth centre to nod a textbook header beyond Jungmi Kim.

While that goal temporarily had Germany going through, an even later first-half strike for Morocco against Colombia sent them back down into third and needing another goal to advance.

Popp thought she had found it just after the break but saw her brave header ruled out for offside, before she sent another one crashing off the bar moments later.

Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s side continued to press, but neither they nor Colombia could find the net, as group-stage elimination was confirmed for the two-time world champions.

  • BREAKING: Canada crash out as Nigeria progress in 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup

BREAKING: Canada crash out as Nigeria progress in 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup

Canada crashed out on Monday while the Super Falcons of Nigeria pulled a brilliant performance to make progress in the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the Super Falcons of Nigeria drew 0:0 against the Republic of Ireland to emerge in second position in Group B.

In the second match of Group B, played at the same time as the Republic of Ireland vs Nigeria encounter, co-hosts Australia thrashed Canada by four goals to eliminate the North Americans.

The Super Falcons thus have confirmed their place in the Round of 16 of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria, therefore, ended the Group phase with five points, while Australia topped the Group with six points. Canada crashed out with four points while Ireland were only able to secure one point.

Meanwhile, Nigeria and Australia will have to wait for their opponents in the Round of 16.

  • FIFA Women’s World Cup: Super Falcons team list released for Ireland cracker

FIFA Women’s World Cup: Super Falcons team list released for Ireland cracker

Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum has released the team list to square up with the Republic of Ireland today in the last game of Group B in the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the Super Falcons of Nigeria will take on the girls in green from Ireland, at 11 am (WAT), in a tricky final Group B match in Brisbane.

The fearless Super Falcons produced the first major shock of the tournament after stunning co-hosts Australia 3-2, to shoot to the top of the group, level with Canada on four points.

They had opened their campaign with a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Olympic champions Canada.

The starting eleven sighted by TNG has Nnadozie, Alozie, Plumptre, Ohale, Demehin, Payne, Avinde, Ucheibe, Ajibade, Oshoala and Kanu.

On the bench are Oluehi, Ogbonna, Ebi, Oparanozie, Monday, Ordega, Echegini, Imuran, OKoronkwo, Balogun and Onumonu.

TNG reports the Nigerian girls will have to avoid complacency and what has been termed the Irish banana peel, if they are to seal passage to the round of 16.

Already eliminated Ireland who narrowly lost their first two matches in the group will be seeking redemption against the Super Falcons in a bid to get their first World Cup win.

Nigeria are ranked 40th while Ireland is 22nd in the latest FIFA world ranking, but the Super Falcons have re-emphasised the fact that rankings don’t count much when the chips are down.

Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum on Sunday, ahead of the match said his team will continue to show that they are better than their current ranking.

“We have shown we are a better team than number 40 (ranking) in the world. I would say that we were underestimated and underappreciated.

“Hopefully we’ve proven that to the world right now that we belong in a higher place (than 40th).” he said.

The coach said the team would approach the ‘very difficult’ Ireland match with all the seriousness it deserves, to avoid any slips

“It is going to be a very difficult game. People may think I am crazy for saying this, but I think it could be our hardest match.

“Ireland have been a bit unlucky in the first two matches and could have got a result.

“We are not expecting them to lay down because they are going home already, I am expecting to get the best from them and have been very impressed with their team and their organisation.” he said.

Analysts have stressed the need for the Super Falcons to go for an outright win, so as to top the group, regardless of the result from the dicey Australia vs Canada match.

Nigeria should advance to the last-16 if they avoid a defeat against the hungry Irish, while a loss would leave them scrambling for a favourable result from the other group game between Canada and Australia.

Only the top two teams from each group will qualify for the round of 16.
