    EFCC arrests 37 internet fraudsters in Ekiti

    The Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday said it has arrested 37 internet fraud suspects, also known as ‘Yahoo-Yahoo Boys’, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

    This is contained in a statement signed by EFCC Media Head, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, and made available to newsmen in Ilorin.
    The statement reads that the arrest was sequel to series of intelligence reports on the alleged criminal activities of some internet
    fraudsters operating in the area.

    ”Officers of the Commission had carried out series of discreet surveillance on the nature of activities going on in the area, which established that the location where the suspects were rounded up is a hideout for fraudsters.

    ”Two of the suspects arrested are brothers of the same parent – Dada Dele and Dada Tunde with Segun Kazeem, Adepoju Pelumi, Jejelowo Segun, David Ojo, Sodiq Adetoye and Opeyemi Akiniyi.

    “Others include: Michael Ekundayo, Victor Olujobi, Damilola Akinluyi and Attamah Hyauth, Ade Ajayi Tobi, Oyewola Adewunmi, Emmanuel Bello, Lekan Oyewole, Oso Opeyemi, Oluwaseun Temitope Ezekiel, Akinrodolu Sunday and Emmanuel Attah.

    “Also arrested are Sunday Adedoyin, George Tobi, Odunayo Daramola, Olubola Olushola Sunday, Temitope Ayomide, Faboro John Oluwagbotemi, Ajibade Timilehin Emmanuel and Momoh Ranti.

    “The remaining suspects arrested are Ajibade Seyi, Eniola Abdulbasit, Oreoluwa Ayuba, Christopher Olutobiloba, Samuel Ajayi, Abiodun Akeem, Tunde Orija, Ajila Ayodeji and Oyeleke Kehinde,” the statement read in part.

    It added that the raid led to the confiscation of scores of vehicles, laptops, sophisticated phones and other items.

    According to the statement, the suspects are currently being profiled to determine their culpability in the alleged crime and would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

    Suspected ’Yahoo Boys’ protest in Osun, tackle EFCC over incessant arrest

    Some suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as ‘Yahoo Boys’, on Tuesday protested their incessant arrest by the security agencies.

    They blocked Osogbo/Ilesa expressway in the State.

    They were said to have stormed the Ilesa West Local Government Secretariat, Ilesa and made bonfire on the road, therefore halting the free flow of traffic along the busy road.

    The bonfire was made exactly at the entrance of the Ilesa Council office.

    The protesters, it was learnt, were protesting their recent arrest by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

    They alleged that the EFCC officials recently stormed the hotel they lodged in and arrested some of their colleagues.

    It was gathered that owing to the road blockage, motorists plying the expressway were said to have been stranded.

    Some of the road users, who know the terrain, had made u-turn for other routes.

    Some unidentified boys suspected to be internet fraudsters, otherwise known as ‘Yahoo Yahoo boys’ on Sunday caused commotion, allowing a rain of naira to fall in Benin, Edo State.

    The incident was captured in a 1.37 minutes video that went viral on the social media. The video was shot on Sunday, February 7, at Evboutubu, a suburb community in Benin.

    One of the boys who wore dreadlocks hair style, reminded one of Lawrence Anini, the notorious armed robber that terrorized the old Bendel State during General Ibrahim Babangida’s regime, who threw mints stolen from banks in public and market places, as cover to evade arrest by police operatives.

    The boys who drove to the spot in two vehicles, a white Toyota Venza SUV and another white Lexus Saloon car, with registration number Abuja GWA 300 BL, stopped right in the middle of the unpaved road, throwing wads after wads of naira notes into the air.

    The commotion that ensued caused a minor traffic, as passers-by rushed into the road to harvest from the naira rain.

    [ICYMI] Decomposing bodies of four ‘yahoo boys’ found in Delta apartment

    Operatives of Delta State Police Command have discovered four dead bodies at a private apartment in the university community of Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.

    As at the time they were discovered, their stomachs had protruded with their skin peeling off.

    The deceased persons, all males, were said to have consumed a meal of noodles the previous night.

    Two others who also partook in the meal are now battling for survival at the hospital they were rushed to. A seventh victim has already regained consciousness at the hospital.

    The seven middle aged men suspected to be Yahoo boys, were cramped into the one room apartment.

    Neighbours in the area had woken up to a foul smell coming out from one of the rooms in the compound and immediately alerted the local vigilance members, who in turn informed the police of the development.

    On arrival, seven persons were found in the single room apartment.

    Public Relations Officer of the state police command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya who confirmed the incident, said the victims were not students of the Delta State University (DELSU).

    “It’s not hostel room but a private apartment. They are not students. According to the caretaker, the room was rented to one person but at times, he brings seven or nine people.

    “But on this particular occasion, they were seven in the room. It was the vigilante who called the attention of the police.

    “Residents of the compound called the vigilante that an offensive odour was coming out of a room but by the time they got there with the police they found out that four people were dead, two unconscious and one conscious.

    “They were rushed to Eku Specialist Hospital. Doctors confirmed the four of the boys dead while two are still receiving medical treatment.

    “The one that was conscious said the previous night, they prepare noodles to eat only for him minutes later to started feeling unease. By the time he got up, others were lying down.

    “They are not students of the university. They only live in Abraka. The room was just a room apartment. Their bellies were swollen and their bodies were peeling as if they were poured hot water,” she said.

    Apparently sensing that a gold fish has no hiding place, scammers otherwise known as ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ boys in Nigeria are fast relocating to rural areas of Abuja to beat security operatives.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that living in mega estates in Abuja has become the albatross of the scammers as they now relocate to the hinterlands.

    A probe into this development by TNG revealed that mega estates in Galadimawa, Gwarimpa, Maitama and Asokoro are no longer safe havens for them because of their flashy lifestyles.

    According to a source privy to this development, the scammers who are mainly University graduates, school dropouts now live in sattelite towns and outskirts of FCT.

    He said “the heat is too much in the town these days and police men always empty them once they are caught.

    “You know they operate in small small groups of three to four in one flat all knowing the codes to use once an alarm is raised.

    “They now live in places like Dutse inside oh, Bwari, Gwagwalada, some even moved to secluded places in Suleija in Niger State and Kaduna road.

    “But their biggest challenge is the inability to lie low because they all have same trade signals.

    “Their generators operate 24hours non-stop and once neighbours notice this signal tongues start wagging the next thing they will be reported.

    “I live in Kaduna road, some moved into our neighborhood and within one week they were all arrested, their generators, laptops were carted away by security operatives.

    “The operatives left their girlfriends behind but within one week they were released and their properties released.

    “So as you can see you can’t stop this young men because of the culture of settlement,’ he added.

    “All those SARS and EFCC guys when de milk us dry never understand the code we de use now.

    “Once maga pay bitcoins we quickly convert the thing to cash before yawa gas we don waka.

    TNG further gathered that since bank transactions are monitored by security operatives, the fraudsters cleverly use this new strategy to avoid arrest.

    Bitcoins otherwise known as virtual money is another method of running business transactions without necessarily exchanging cash.

    Nigerian rapper, Erigga Money has warned young guys to be wary of dating a girl dumped by fraudsters, also known as Yahoo Boys.

    The talented rapper sounded his warmings through a post on his official Twitter handle on Wednesday, 18th March.

    Although he refused to give a reason for his advise, a lot of his followers have been saying his reason might be because of the spending power of the Yahoo boy which might be difficult for the legitimately working boy to match.

    He wrote: “As a young promising man when dey hustle legit, no date any girl when yahoo boy dump oh.

  • EFCC arrest six suspected internet fraudsters with mini coffin [Photo]

    Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested six suspected internet fraudster with a mini coffin in Ibadan, Oyo State.

    The suspects are Azeez Adebowale, Toyinsola Bolumole, Ifelowo Ololade, Sonuyi Ayodeji, Folarin Olayinka, and Aluko Olawale.

    They were arrested during a raid by EFCC operatives of Oluyole and Alao-Akala estates in Ibadan.

    EFCC acting spokesperson, Tony Orilade, in a statement on Tuesday said the operatives recovered from the suspect’s items including four cars, various brands of sophisticated phones and an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card.

    Mr Orilade said one of the suspects, Mr Adebowale, 38; claimed to be using the coffin as a soap rack to hypnotise his victims.

    The EFCC has taken huge steps to curb financial crimes and ritual killings in Nigeria, Mr Orilade said. In October 2019, the Commission arrested about 200 suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo boys.

    The Ibadan zone of EFCC alone secured 171 convictions,167 of which are cybercrime offenders in 2019. In addition, the EFCC impounded 56 automobiles and 14 houses from the offenders and recovered N211,134,927.26; $136,289; €2000 and £765.

    According to the 2017 Africa Cyber Security Report, the continent lost $3.5 billion to cybercrime, out of which Nigeria’s loss was about $649 million.

    Nigerian singer and guitarist, Bukola Elemide a.k.a Asa recently revealed that she started out as a rapper, but failed at it.
    The 37-year-old opened up on the artistes with whom she looks to collaborate in subsequent projects while speaking with Cool FM.
    “People who knew me, in the beginning, would remember that I started out as a rapper. But I know that I sucked. So, I just humbled myself and stuck to where God really put me,” she said.

     

    “But I love rap music. You know I listen to Drake. Even TI, I love what he’s done. You know, his community. I like G-Eazy. I love Cardi B also, she cool.”

     

    In the interview, Asa revealed that she was born in France before she moved to Nigeria with her parents.
    There is a connection to France. That is where I got my first record deal. I was born there,” the singer said.
    My father studied cinematography there and he wanted to come back to make Nigeria better, I grew up here, I grew up in Lagos, but somehow, I don’t know if it’s destiny, something else took me to France and I’ve been going back there.
    “I speak French, I won’t say fluently,” she also said.
    Although she didn’t give many details, Asa revealed that Yahoo Boys, the Nigerian term for internet criminals emptied her bank account in 2019.
    Yahoo Boys emptied my bank account, but we won’t go into that,” she said.
