    EFCC arrests nine Yahoo boys in Abuja, recovers cars, others

    The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested nine suspected internet fraudsters in Abuja.

    A statement on Wednesday by the acting spokesman of EFCC, Mr. Tony Orilade, said the suspects were cooperating with the commission and would be charged after the conclusion of investigations.

    It noted that the suspects were arrested by the Advance Fee Fraud Section of the Commission on November 30, 2018 through an intelligence report received on the fraudulent activities of the suspected fraudsters residing somewhere along Airport road, as they were obviously living above their means.

    According to the statement, operatives of the EFCC had carried out surveillance for days on the activities of the fraudsters before they swooped in on them.

    The suspects are: Edwin Ogbomwan, Okouromi Franklin, Oseji Collins, Collins Onyekwuluje, Anyanechi Ekene, Tony Oviasuyi, Chidi Emeshili, Osaigbovo Aiseos and Osaigbovo Ikponmnosa.

    The suspects had turned their residence into a safe haven for fraudulent activities using it as a place of abode and an operational office with computers, laptops, phones, modems, sim cards and many other fraudulent tools to fleece unsuspecting Nigerians and foreigners of their hard-earned money and valuables.

    The suspects had created a phoney identity of ‘Thomas Jerry Star and John Ben’ which they effectively deployed in their deceptive deals.

    The suspects, aged between 19 and 26 years, were arrested with two GLK Mercedes Benz, One Toyota Camry, Lexus Jeep and other valuables worth millions of Naira, which they acquired through the proceeds of their ignoble trade.

  • Okowa orders clampdown on ‘Yahoo Boys’ over students’ death

    Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has ordered for a clampdown on internet fraudsters popularly known as “Yahoo Boys.”

    This followed the murder of a student of the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Elo Ogege by suspected ritualists masquerading as “Yahoo Boys.”

    In a statement on Monday in Asaba, Okowa said: “On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, it is with a heavy heart that I write to express our profound commiserations to the family of Elozino Ogege, the Isoko nation, her friends, both within and outside the university community.

    “I am glad that the security agencies have made serious progress in the investigation into the murder and l can assure Deltans and Nigerians that justice will be served on the perpetrators of this dastard act.”

    He added that “As a government whose primary responsibility is the protection of lives and property, as well as the welfare of her citizens, I urge Deltans and Nigerians to partner with the government and report to security agencies the activities of these gangs with a view to assisting the society to get rid of such dangerous groups. Never again as a people shall we condone the activities of these known criminals as we all seem to agree that “enough is enough.”

    No doubt, cybercrime is an image nightmare for Nigeria.

    Nigerian fashion influencer and blogger, Noble Igwe stirred the hornet’s nest when he disclosed that record label owners, car dealers and club owners in Lagos are major fraud fronts in the country, calling the attention of EFCC to them.

    This led to countless online debates on the issue, with celebrities also lending their voices.

    Seun Kuti, Afrobeat musician has expressed his opinion on the subject matter. Seun noted that what ‘Yahoo boys’ spend their money on, is to acquire products made by the western world in order to seek validation through them.

    In his Facebook post, Seun wrote: “Wetin yahoo boy dey take money do? No be to buy expensive white man things? Lol. If they weren’t busy buying White man drink but building their communities maybe just maybe, I will see dem but I don’t.

    “Steal white man’s money and the only way u can express that wealth is too seek validation by consuming the most expensive white man things and u say u are a Gee? All Yahoo boys are Mugus for whitey still, dem be learner. Wait that 100k u used 3 months to set the job how long did it take Gucci to collect it back? MUGU.     Noble Igwe slams ‘Yahoo boys’, urges EFCC to arrest more

    Social media influencer, model and Chief executive officer of 360group, Noble Igwe has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to arrest more fraudsters popularly known as ‘Yahoo boys’

    TheNewsGuru recalls that EFCC on Friday stormed Club 57 in Ikoyi and detained over 12 suspected internet fraudsters.

     

    Reacting on the trending issue, Igwe said record label owners, car dealers and club owners in Lagos are major fraud fronts in the country.

     

    He noted that people who steal with computer should also be referred to as armed robbers.

     

    His tweet read: “Record label Estate/ Property Business Car Selling business The Above are major 419 /fraud fronts in Nigeria.

     

    “EFCC needs to have a waiter stationed at every club within Lekki & VI. After last night,club owners are going to record low sales and Uber drivers will be busy tonight.

     

     

    “Online stores and stores on Admiralty/Fola Osibo are used for money laundering.

     

    “Armed robbers on instagram are regarded as G boys but in reality,their’s a different type of stealing.

     

    “People steal and then turn around to blame the government for making them criminals.

     

    “Anyone that defends a criminal is a criminal and while we have a list for people advocating rape culture, we should also have one for such people.

     

     

    “An armed robber is an armed robber. You are a thief armed with a computer.”

    Oyemmke, a US based Nigerian comedian had condemned Igwe’s tweets, stressing that it is unnecessary and the EFCC should be allowed to do their job.

    Soft Work sensation, Falz the Bahd Guy has stirred some untold controversy after he threw a jab at Nigerian singers who glorify ‘Yahoo Boys’ in their songs

    According to the singer, glorifying Yahoo Boys amounts to glorification of what is wrong in society and advised artistes to discontinue from doing so for the sake of the future.
