    Grammy: Veteran actor, Chiwetalu Agu snubs Tems, hails Yemi Alade as queen of Afrobeat

    Veteran Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu, has taken to social media to hail Nigerian musician, Yemi Alade, for her appearance during the 2025 Grammy Awards ceremony.

    TheNewsGuru reports that the comic actor only commended the ‘Johnny’ crooner for representing African culture and Afrobeat, whilst leaving out Nigerian female singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, who emerged winner of the Best African Music Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

    In a video, on his Facebook handle, the Enugu-born legendary actor described the ‘Tomorrow’ crooner as a beautiful queen and role model worthy of emulation.

    His words: “Yemi Alade, you are a queen. The queen you think you are. She may not have won the Grammy, but she clearly won my heart. If there’s nobody to say it, I, Chief Chiwetalu, will give you your flowers.

    “Not only did she represent Afrobeat, but she also represented the African culture. Through her attire at the Grammys Award, she is putting the African culture on the world map. Her outfit was screaming, ‘I did not come to impress you, I know my roots’. We talk about how decent and natural she has been as an artist. Or how beautiful she is as a woman. Body is tea. How talented, disciplined, reserved, established, and humble she is as a lady.

    “Yemi, keep on being the role model you are to so many young girls. Chief Chiwetala admires and loves you so much. I pray you find your Johnny at the right time.”

    Popular Nigerian singer, Yemi Alade has taken to social media to call out Cool FM and Clout Africa for blacklisting her music.

    The songstress in a series of posts on X on Thursday, alleged that both platforms sidelined her music for over a year because she missed one of their events.

    According to the 35-year-old, the media organizations, yanked off her songs from their playlists,  and refused to forgive her, despite several apologies for not attending their event.

    The singer, who did not provide specifics about the event noted that despite everything the media platforms did to frustrate her, God is still faithful to her.

    She wrote: “My God, BIG PASS YOUR WHOLE station @cloutafrica @CoolFMNigeria , keep on forming gate keepers and taking my songs down. NA GOD BE MY LABEL AND MANAGEMENT, we go meet for front. Fake people wey dey feel like small gods.

    “Me, I no dey find trouble O. But @CoolFMNigeria and @cloutafrica with their Ogas that like operation ….. life is a marathon, not a sprint. Shine your eyes 

    “Una dey carry person for mind …. for 1 year @cloutafrica and @CoolFMNigeria shameful, very shameless .

    “Take down my whole catalog from your stations @CoolFMNigeria and @cloutafrica …. God go still give me food. You’re beefing an artist for 1 full year, over your event. I didn’t go, too. I apologized and even called your oga him dey form oga no even reply my text”.

    “Dem dey carry beef since last year December 2023 …… @cloutafrica and @CoolFMNigeria till December 2024 …… God keep us alive hold on that beef

    Singer Yemi Alade opens up on latest album

    Nigerian singer and Afro Pop star, Yemi Alade, has opened up on her latest album, ‘Rebel Queen’, describing it as the most intentional.

    Alade said in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos that each song was carefully crafted to showcase her artistic growth.

    Alade shared her experience recording the album, which features collaborations with iconic artistes like Angelique Kidjo and Ziggy Marley.

    Alade who noted that each song on the album had its moment highlighted ‘Tomorrow’, ‘Kilowawa’, ‘Peace and love’, ‘Carry me’, ‘I’m sorry’, ‘Chairman’, and ‘BOP’, as some of the most memorable experiences recorded.

    The singer said she was specific about her choices for features, citing Angelique Kidjo as an icon and a mother figure, making her the perfect fit for the song ‘#African woman’.

    She also praised Ziggy Marley as the only person who could understand and execute the aim of her song ‘Peace and love’.

    “The featured artistes’ core genres and personalities were things I considered for these collaborations. The album was recorded over several years and in different countries.

    “I think I enjoyed recording this album the most because it was very intentional and proudly my best work yet,” Alade said.

    The ‘Johnny’ crooner also mentioned her experience hosting album release parties across Paris, London, New York, and Lagos.

    She declared the month of July as an eventful month for her team.

    “We are creating an avenue for music lovers and core fans to enjoy my album privately and exclusively. Every city had its different vibe as well as similarities,” she said.

    The multi-award-winning musician, known for her electrifying performances, attributes her sustained relevance in the industry to her understanding of her life’s path, resilience, and unwavering love for music.

    Yemi Alade made her musical debut in 2010 with her track “Fimile,” featuring Eldee The Don. Since then, she has built an incredible career.

    “Officially, I have been in the industry for 14 years, counting from when I released my first song titled ‘Fimisile,’ featuring Eldee tha Don,” she said.

    “I love music. It is actually the one thing that I am gifted at. I am deeply rooted and connected to music. It has chosen me as its messenger,” Yemi Alade said.

    “The music industry has always been tough, even before I showed any interest in it. And, it will continue to be tough. However, it is said that ‘tough times never last but tough people do’. I believe that the strongest will always survive,” Yemi Alade added.

    Yemi Alade blasts Sanwo-Olu over demolition of properties in lagos

    Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has berated The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, over the demolition of properties across the state.

    In a post on her Instagram Story on Sunday, the musician said that it does not make sense that people would invest millions of dollars into real estate only for the Lagos State government to demolish such structures.

    Yemi Alade noted that the state government is making people lose trust not only in the idea of Nigeria but also in the little coin they saved to make their lives worthwhile.

    She wrote: “Lagos State, what’s going on? What’s going on? Does it make sense that people will invest millions of naira and millions of dollars into real estate, buying houses and land, and Lagos State will go and be breaking walls and breaking houses, rendering people homeless overnight?

    “And it’s done serially. It’s done back-to-back. Right now, Maryland, Mende area is on fire. People are sleeping in their houses, waking up the next day homeless.

    “You’re ruining the real estate value of the country, ruining the real estate value of Lagos. Making people lose trust not only in the idea of Nigeria but lose hope entirely in the little coin they’ve saved to make their lives worthwhile. To create some kind of generational wealth.

    “How is this okay? And why? Does it make sense? In multi-million-dollar houses, there is a better way to do things.”

    Popular female Nigerian singer,  Yemi Alade has knocked some of her colleagues downplaying the Afrobeats genre.

    Alade posited that it is not wrong for artists to denounce Afrobeats especially if they feel it doesn’t define their art, it is hypocrisy for them to downplay the genre, adding that it has contributed to every Nigerian artist’s development.

    On her X handle, the ‘Johnny’ crooner wrote: “I don’t see anything wrong in informing your listeners of the genre of music an artist makes especially when you feel it doesn’t define your art.

    “Just Announce your Genre in peace. Downplaying the role Afrobeats has played in every artist’s development is hypocrisy.”

    Alade’s social media outburst is coming following a dispute among Nigerian hip hop artiste including Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy denouncing the Afrobeats genre.

    They all claimed that they ditched the genre because all African artists boxed into Afrobeats regardless of their musical styles.

    Popular Afrobeats singer, Yemi Alade has debunked report about being sexually assaulted in the music industry and her inability to secure awards.

    A viral reports online alleged that the songstress had failed to earn any awards in the music industry over her refusal to sleep with men.

    Alade via her Instagram page described the reports making rounds as stupidity at its peak and unintelligent write-up adding that the reports are from mongers of false news.

    She wrote,

    “So y’all gon start creating false stories every time you get bored? SMH! Stupidity at its peak! Very unintelligent write-up.

    “When I read the interview that Yemi Alade recently did, I was like “Wow, Yemi Alade don suffer”. Mtchewwwwww get a job stupíd rumor mongers of false news.

    Popular singer, Yemi Alade has opened can of worms about awards in the country.

    According to her, she rarely wins awards in Nigeria despite her fame and success claiming that she always refuse sexual advances from awards organizers.

    According to the singer, a lot of entertainment executives have requested sex from her in the past with the promises of better opportunities but she declined.

    She said she has no regrets turning down their offers because she at least has her dignity and fans who adore her.

    “There was a time in the industry when everyone wanted to sleep with me and it was like, ‘Yemi, if you don’t do this, you won’t have that. Today men are the reason I don’t win awards in Nigeria,” WithInNigeria quoted her as saying.

    “Going down with men was like a bridge I had to cross to get on some platforms, get some deals and even awards. When I made my decision never to engage in sexual activities for gains, lots of opportunities were automatically blocked for me.”

    Afrobeats singer, Yemi Alade, has said  that her viral song, “Johnny”, was leaked by an unidentified source.

    She said that if the song was not leaked in 2014, she would not have released it formally, saying that it most likely would not have been released.

    Yemi Alade talked about writing Johnny while on tour in Nigeria and how she never imagined the song would turn her into a worldwide sensation.

    In a recent interview with Taymesan for the Tea With Taymesan podcast, the singer related the tale and mentioned that the song’s leak happened the day she recorded it with Selebobo.

    Reacting to a question, Yemi said: “Yes, I felt it. I never thought it was a song that leaked; I didn’t release it officially. If you find the picture, it’s a picture of me with some blonde weave.”

    The interviewer asked further: “What do you mean it leaked?”

    She added: “It leaked online; it was never officially released. Yes, it probably would never have been released. God finds a way to move people and things around.”
