BREAKING: Just like RCCG, Anglican Church sets up political department ahead of 2023 elections

Just like the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion has set up a department in the church for political mobilization ahead of the 2023 general elections.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the political department in the Anglican Communion was announced by the Primate and Metropolitan of all Nigeria, His Grace, Most Revd Henry Ndukuba.

He made the announcement at the final stage of the 2022 Joshua Generation International Youth Conference, where he also commissioned some other new important departments in the church.

Our correspondent gathered that the political department is meant to mentor youths in the Anglican church and prepare them ready to actively participate in Nigerian politics.

The political department is also to serve as a platform to encourage church members on the importance of getting their permanent voter’s cards (PVCs) and participating actively during elections.

The new department is also to help coordinate the engagement of the church members who are willing to be involved in politics as well as mobilize support for them.

While the scope of the department is yet to be fully defined, the general aim of the political department, according to the Primate, is to mobilise members of the Anglican church to actively participate in politics.

TNG reports the Church of Nigeria is the Anglican church in Nigeria. It is the second-largest province in the Anglican Communion after the Church of England.

As of 2016, membership of the church, measured was pegged at over 18 million. It is the largest Anglican province on the continent of Africa, accounting for 41.7% of Anglicans in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Recall that the RCCG had announced a similar political department in the church that was met with so much criticism recently.

While the RCCG gave a blanket reason on why it’s political department was set up, some members of the public, mostly on social media attributed the move to the presidential ambition of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Meanwhile, Primate Ndukuba also commissioned a department in charge of assisting students, who wish to study abroad via scholarships or self funded.

Ndukuba also commissioned Church of Nigeria Football club to be registered into Nigerian Premier league with the recruitment of players expected to begin soon.

TNG reports the Primate also commissioned a department for mission outreach.

2023 : Osinbajo seeks Olubadàn’s blessings on presidential ambition

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday visited the Olubadàn of Ibadanland, Oba Olalekan Balogun, at his Alarere residence, in Ibadan, to seek the traditional ruler’s blessings on his presidential ambition.

The visit was in continuation of the vice president’s visitation to states ahead of the primary election of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), holding in May.

Osinbajo said the that he came to pay homage and sought the traditional ruler’s blessings on his desire to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, after the completion of the current tenure.

He explained that his decision to contest the post of presidency was made in realisation of the need to put into use all the experiences he gained in the last seven years under the tutelage of President Buhari.

“During these years, our president truly gave me every opportunity to know all what the government was doing, including very sensitive issues and I felt it would be the right thing to do, to deploy all those experiences under me to the service of the country.

“Nigeria needs those who are willing to serve, to attain her potentials. I have come to Ibadan to confer with the party delegates on my intention to run for the presidency, which I formally declared on April 11.

“Kabiyesi, I know that you are no more a politician. Though it is said that we are all political animals, but your position as the father of all, precludes ‘Your Imperial Majesty’ from being active.

“So, I covet your prayers and want to assure Your Majesty, that wherever I may be, your highly respected position is guaranteed,” Osinbajo said.

In his response, Oba Balogun wished the vice president good luck in his desire to contest the presidential race.

“We are proud of you and share your aspiration. Just let me hand you over to the Almighty Allah, to take total control and be with you and your entourage,” Oba Balogun added.

The royal father also prayed for the vice president and his entourage.

Among the dignitaries who accompanied Prof. Osinbajo were Sen. Teslim Folarin, APC, representing Oyo Central, Sen. Adamu Bulkachuwa, APC representing Bauchi North, Chief Niyi Akintola (SAN) and other chieftains of the party.

    2023: Professors endorse Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has called on academics and members of other professional bodies to participate actively in the task of making Nigeria a better place for all.

Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said the vice president received, on a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa, a team of 13 professors who came to endorse and support his aspiration ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The top academics, drawn from the six geo-political zones, came under the aegis of the Progressive Intellectuals Advisory Group.

The group was led by Prof. Shehu Adamu, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

“These days, you find all sorts of pretenders claiming expertise in everything under the sun without any real expertise.

“So, it is important that academics do not vacate that space to allow all sorts of people to begin to postulate on practically every issue,’’ he said.

The vice president recalled his experience as an academic who became an Attorney-General.

Osinbajo welcomed the interest of the professors in the upcoming 2023 presidential elections.

“One of the most important things I recall when I served first as Attorney General of Lagos State was that it is so important for those of us who are in academics to participate because not only are we among the more knowledgeable groups, we have also done more work.

“The path that you have chosen is a very crucial one because in the future, more intellectual groups will take the responsibility that is really theirs.

“And I think that for those of us who are from the academic community, it is a privilege that we have – being the intellectual crème de la crème of our society, and this comes with responsibility.”

The vice president appreciated the group’s endorsement of his presidential aspiration.

He said that if there was any sort of endorsement that had given him particular joy, it was the group’s endorsement.

“Because if one is endorsed by professional colleagues, people who live their lives by critical analysis and evaluation; it is worth celebrating.

“These matters are not to be taken lightly. For a professor to say that he supports a political cause, it is a weighty matter indeed, because you are aware that a lot of reflections go into it.

“But when you have 13 professors all over the country saying that they are aligned to one cause; I am greatly humbled; it is one of those things that doesn’t happen often.

“We will work together to make a significant difference for our country,” Osinbajo said.

Earlier in his remarks, Adamu said the visit was to intimate the vice president on activities and efforts of the group to support his aspiration to become Nigeria’s President.

He said the academics were convinced of Osinbajo’s capability to lead a more prosperous Nigeria; hence their resolve not only to endorse him, but also offer their expertise and do what it would take to ensure that he emerged victorious.

Adamu said the group would engage in activities, including media engagements, community mobilisation, and partnerships with other professionals, among others, to shape public opinion in a manner that will lead to a successful run by the vice president in 2023.

Another member of the delegation, Prof. Nasiru Musa Yauri, the Vice Chancellor of the Al-Kalam University, Katsina, said members of the group had decided not to fold their arms.

“We will do whatever it takes to actualise the PYO 2023 project,” he said.

Moreso, Prof. Chukwuemeka Nwanegbo, the Head of Political Science Department, Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, said that members of the academic community would throw their weight behind the vice president.

“We do not want to sit back and watch the political terrain disallow you from emerging.

“So, we want to work with you, other professionals and students to actualise your bid,” he said.

Aside Adamu, Yauri and Nwanegbo, the other academics at the meeting included Prof. Yahaya Baba, Usman Danfodiyo University in Sokoto and Prof. Mashood Omotosho, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Others were Associate Prof. Philips Okolo, Director of the Institute of Peace and Security Studies, Niger Delta University, Prof. Shola Omotola, Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Prof. Danjuma Abubakar, IBB University, Lapai and Associate Prof. Abdullahi Jibrin, Federal University Lafia.

Associate Prof. Atelhe George, University of Calabar, Prof. Saleh Mohammed, Federal University Kashere, Gombe State, Prof. Haruna Adama, University of Yola and Prof. Ike-Elechi Ogba, Ebonyi State University were also in the delegation.

  • Much ado about Presidential ambitions – By Hope Eghagha

Much ado about Presidential ambitions – By Hope Eghagha

There is something akin to the paranoid about our reaction to aspirants to elective positions. I use ‘our’ rather loosely to refer to netizens who constitute the most vocal group of the polity. This is especially so with presidential and governorship ambitions of some politicians in some of the states. No doubt, there is some paranoia about the likes of Senator Orji Kalu, Professor Osinbajo, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, Senator Bola Tinubu, former Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and a few others declaring their interest to contest for president of the Federal Republic. The sub-text in the paranoid response is ‘You too? In other words, by our estimation, such fellows should not attempt to exercise their fundamental right as enshrined in the Constitution of the land.

Perhaps there is a reason. There is the remote fear that given our political antecedents, the system could produce anybody, fit or unfit, that the cabal of clandestine rulers of the country favours. The narrative is that the people do not have a say in who becomes president or governor. For most aspirants therefore, the real fight is to get the party nomination. Else any unpopular or unfit candidate of any political party will meet their waterloo at the polls. But deep down there is a vote of no confidence in the electoral system.

To be sure, anyone, that is any Nigerian who is of age and is not an ex-convict has the right to signal interest in the presidency. It is left for the electorate to make the ultimate decision. This is how it works in a democracy. The party internal mechanism produces its candidate after going through a screening process. The party decision should be based on certain criteria that have been fully discussed. In preparing for the general elections in 2023, there is something to be said for the presidency moving south after eight years of power in the north in the spirit of power rotation. Yet, the PDP has thrown the contest open to all fit and proper persons, no matter their regional background. There is the feeling that the PDP took this decision to calm the nerves of one of the strong aspirants within the party. It is now left for the screening and elective processes to conclude the matter.

While all the jostling was ongoing, we hear such inane and anti-democratic statements from the incumbent rulers as ‘I will not hand over power to Mr. or Mr. B! is it the duty of an outgoing president or governor in a democracy to choose who to hand over power to? What if the people think differently? It shows the anti-democratic mindset of the practitioners of democracy who currently hold the reins of power. The APC under President Muhammadu has mismanaged the country, especially in relations between and among the ethnic groups. The most obvious failure is in security. In a normal country, the APC would be jittery about facing the electorate. The PDP would be drumming on the ineptitude of the ruling party as the country prepares for general elections. No party that has decimated the social and economic lives of the people ought to be returned to power in the next elections. No party that has kept all strategic political appointments in the north should return to power. All politicians who kept silent while an elected president whom they could hold accountable drove a knife into ethnic unity deserve to rule this country. No party that opposed any step to ward re-ordering the political structure of the country should return to power. But sadly, in Nigeria, there are primordial and extraneous factors that shape election matters.

If truth be told, we need new hands in the saddle. Nigeria is too complicated to be left in the hands of persons who want to do business as usual. The old, grizzled politicians have led Nigeria into a mess. The future is uncertain. The economy is in a terrible shape. There is hunger in the land. There is anger in the land. The personal weaknesses of the incumbent president have affected the nation negatively. The narrative of the absentminded leader has finally taken a toll on all segments of the polity. It is tragic. In old age, there are certain things we should not embark upon. No old man should inflict himself on the electoral process in Nigeria.

Most of the aspirants have brought themselves forward as a way of negotiating their future. They know that they will not get the party nomination. They know that they do not stand in a chance before the electorate. But it inflates the ego of politicians to proclaim that they were once presidential or governorship candidates. No more. Some who could not govern their tiny states effectively, some who do not remember the names of their wives, some who left jail on technical grounds, some who are facing corruption charges in the court of law are all in the field. We should lose no sleep about them. The system will reject them, I hope.

2023 will be a make-or-break election. The greatest threat which is facing the nation is that of insecurity. The Buhari administration rode to the sear of power with so much promise and hope. The APC promised to end the insurgency in the north. The APC promised to end darkness in the land by making electricity available to the people. The APC promised to restructure the country. The APC promised to fight corruption to a standstill. The APC promised employment for the youth. The APC promised to stabilize the naira and make it more powerful. The APC promised to end strikes in the universities. As we write, all the federal universities are paralysed by a strike by all the unions. What has been the experience of Nigerians under the APC-led Buhari administration? An abysmal performance. The level of despair in the country is palpable. All presidential aspirants should be held accountable, should address these issues.

Nigeria must take itself seriously. That is the only way Nigeria will be taken seriously. That is the only way serious things can emanate from Nigeria. That is the only way Nigeria can be respected in the comity of nations. To choose a presidential candidate for all the wrong reasons is a sign that we are not ready to leap out of the stranglehold of poverty, hunger, and disease!

Yemi Osinbajo mans up and Tinubu’s camp is furious and afraid – By Mideno Bayagbon

What an interesting and exciting week this young week is turning out to be. It opened with a lot of exciting promises on the political turf. And the star so far has been the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, grabbing all the headlines in both the traditional media and on the social media platforms. A strategically oiled media plan, on the cheap, was unrolled. Deliberately, speculations were fuelled, that finally, the VP will soon be jumping into the political fray, dare the Lion of Bourdilion, man up, and challenge him to the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

They let leak that he will be meeting with all the governors on the APC platform to inform them of his desire to contest the primaries of the party. Then the meeting holds, culminating in a recorded video in which Prof Osinbajo formally declares his intention.

The declaration turns out to be the star declaration so far. Done on the cheap but with maximum media exposure. Not for him the rally in a jam packed stadium, like Transportation Minister, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi did the week before. Not for him also the Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu declaration style. He goes for the simple, modern and adroit use of the media with astonishing results.

For instance, without seemingly spending a Kobo, on Twitter, in less than six hours, there were 345,000 views of his declaration video. It also attracted 27,000 likes, 18,000 retweets and over 3 million impressions. As monitored by TNG reporters, on YouTube, there were 15,000 views within six hours. These are outside the free, wide publicity which all the newspapers and online news platforms gave him. Facebook and Instagram did not fail him too as hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Nigerians, were forced to receive the news of the declaration. Quite impressive.

Something tells me a paragraph is being taken from former President Barack Obama’s campaign strategy notes. Without the traditional caucuses behind his ambition, without endorsements from the established political quarters, especially from his original political family, the Bola Tinubu political machinery in the South West, there seems to be a plan to use the media as a catalyst. The target are the youths who are digital natives in all the social media platforms. I suspect the Vice President does not plan to run the typical campaign. I can decipher that he plans to leverage on the social media to reach the unreached youths, and like Obama, mobilise them to push his campaign to fruition.

But then there is the almighty roadblock: the primaries which are just slightly over a month away. How this plan will mobilise the grassroots and different tendencies in the party which will determine who eventually triumphs to carry the flag of the APC , is still under construction, I assume.

Two things stand between him and his ambition. One, he is more of an academic, a technocrat and religious leader than a politician. Which means, unlike a Bola Tinubu and an Amaechi with well oiled political bases, his political strength lies only on his being Vice President to a poorly performing President, whose support, for now, is doubtful.

Secondly, there is the tiny issue of cash. Billions of them in Naira and other currencies, that he needs to oil and fuel his strategy to garner as superior votes to put him in pole position; and eventual win. Not before now known as a man of means, except there are tangible signals from Aso Rock that he is the man President Buhari has anointed, the opportunistic moneybags who usually throw in humongous cash to back “sure bankers’ will not be available to him. How will he then, without a solid political base and without the billions to buy delegates, be able to confront his former boss, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who some of his close aides have boasted, money will not be a problem, even if it means budgeting more than a billion Naira per state and Abuja. We are talking of at least N37 billion on the day of the primaries. But then a day is indeed a very long time in politics. Who knows, Tinubu who publicly denounced him, two days ago, can still back him, if superior forces intervene!

For now, however, for his temerity in throwing his hat into the ring, instead of queuing behind the Jagaban, he has turned out a leper and an orphan in that circle. Asked about one of his sons, that’s the Vice President, declaring his interest to contest the primaries of the APC for the Presidential ticket, the self acclaimed leader of the APC could hardly conceal his disgust: “I don’t have any son grown up enough to make such declaration” he told journalists.

APC leadership in Lagos, the assumed constituency of both the VP and Bola Tinubu, following their leader’s cue, promptly declared that they do not know VP Osinbajo as their member. The VP is not a member of the APC in Lagos they shouted from the roof top.

One of Tinubu’s attack dogs, Joe Igbokwe, was furious in his reprimand of the VP. He ordered him to withdraw immediately from the race. He said “Let me drop it here for history and posterity: if you are one of the people Asiwaju raised up and you are eyeing the presidency of the federal republic of Nigeria, show respect and withdraw from the race.”

From the opposition, RENO OMOKRI: had the most critical of views on Osinbajo’s declaration. He said; ”Osinbajo’s declaration speech was watery and baseless. First of all, how could he say he is running to “complete the task” that Buhari started? Buhari stated extreme poverty and overwhelming security for Nigeria. Under Buhari, our country’s debt has grown from ₦12 trillion in 2015, to almost ₦50 trillion this year (if the new ₦6 trillion loan requests are granted. If Osinbajo is running to “complete” that, then he is running to completely destroy what is left of Nigeria!

”Osinbajo said he is running to provide jobs for millions. Those were his exact words. The fellow has been in charge of Nigeria’s economy for the last seven years, according to Buhari, who boasted that Osinbajo heads his economic management team . Yet, Nigerians have lost jobs created by other administrations. His job record is FAILURE! Nigeria has less jobs now, than in 2015, and our unemployment rate has increased from 12% in 2015, to 33% according to the National Bureau of Statistics….

”For years, Osinbajo has been posing as an intellectual. So, at the very least, we expected his declaration speech to be filled with his achievements in office. But it was instead filled with promises. Empty promises. Because he and Buhari have no achievements to show for their wasted seven years”

Reno Omokri of course was reacting to the following promises by Professor Osinbajo: “If by the grace of God and the will of the people, I am given the opportunity, then I believe that first, we must complete what we have started; radically transforming our security and intelligence architecture, completing the reform of our justice system focusing on adequate remuneration and welfare of judicial personnel.

“We will work together by the grace of God. The Nigeria of our dreams in a few short years. We will build on the foundation laid by our predecessors. We will need to move, with much speed, intentionality, and perseverance, towards the vision of a prosperous, stable, and secure nation.

“I am convinced beyond doubt that we have the creativity, the courage, the talent, and the resources to be the foremost black nation on earth. Let us now birth the expectations of greatness conceived by generations before us.

“Let us build a Nigeria where the man from Nnewi sees the man in Gusau as his brother, where the woman in Warri sees the woman in Jalingo as her sister, where the love of our nation burns alike in the hearts of boys and girls from Gboko to Yenogoa.

“Where everywhere, in this land, is home for everyone, where our diversities, tribes and faiths unite, rather than divide us.

“Let our tribes become one tribe; the Nigerian tribe, where all are treated fairly, justly and with respect–where all are given equal access to the abundant opportunities that God has bestowed on this nation. It’s time.

There is no doubt the entrance of Osinbajo into the race portends great drama and promises. Could he be the game changer?

2023: APC Senators wish Osinbajo goodluck in quest to become Nigeria’s next president

Senators in the National Assembly (NASS) under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have wished Vice President Yemi Osinbajo goodluck in his quest to become the next president of Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan made this known after leading the APC Senators to a dinner with the Vice President on Tuesday.

Osinbajo formally briefed the Senate APC caucus over his presidential ambition and sought their support.

The briefing, which was part of Osinbajo’s consultations with critical stakeholders, held over Iftar dinner at his official residence at Aguda House within the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“We had Iftar dinner with His Excellency, the Vice President and thereafter we had brief interaction on our Government and of course on the Vice President’s declaration to run for the presidency of our great country, the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Lawan said.

When pressed further, Lawan said: “naturally, the Vice President told us that he has expressed his interest and that he wanted to consult with the Senate APC caucus.

“He wanted us to hear from his mouth and we did and he was seeking our support in whatever way we can at the appropriate time and we wish the Vice President goodluck in this endeavour.

“But let me assure everyone that the Senate APC caucus and indeed the National Assembly caucus of the APC will continue to work very hard for our great party, the APC, to continue to provide services to Nigerians and also work hard to ensure that by 2023, the next administration is an APC administration at the center and majority of the States in our country, by the Grace of God will be APC”.

2023: Why I want to become next president of Nigeria – Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has finally officially declared his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election and given reasons why he wants to become Nigeria’s next president.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Osinbajo made his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election known in a video footage released on Monday and shared via his official social media platforms.

The vice president’s declaration speech reads, “In the past seven years, I have served as Vice President under a true Nigerian patriot, a servant of the nation in war and peace, and a man of integrity, President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We have, together, worked through some of the most difficult times in the history of our Nation, but we have remained focused on securing the country, providing infrastructure and growing our economy”.

In seven years, Osinbajo said he served the government in several capacities and have at the direction of the president, represented Nigeria in sensitive high level international engagements.

He said: “I have been to practically all local governments in Nigeria. I have been in markets, factories, schools, and farms. I have been in agricultural, mining and oil producing communities; in the Delta, in Kebbi, Enugu, Borno; Rivers, Plateau and Ondo; and in all other states of the federation, listening to the diverse experiences and yearnings of our people.

“I have visited our gallant troops in the North East and our brothers and sisters in the IDP camps. I have felt the pain and anguish of victims in violent conflicts, terrorist attacks, flooding, fire and other disasters.

“I have been in the homes of many ordinary Nigerians in various parts of the country. I have sat with our techprenuers in Lagos, Edo, and Kaduna, with our Nollywood and Kannywood actors; with our musicians, from Lagos, Onitsha, and Kano. And I have spoken to small and large businesses.

“I stood where they stood and sat where they sat. I know their hopes, aspirations and fears; and I believe that in those hopes and aspirations are the seeds for the great Nigeria that we all desire.

“I believe that the very reason why the Almighty God gave me these experiences, these insights, and these opportunities, is that they must be put to the use of our country and it’s great peoples.

This was disvlosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters (Office of the Vice President), Mr. Femi Ojudu, on Sunday night.

“The video will be circulated across social media handles. The details will be explained in a press statement,” Ojudu said.

Osinbajo, however, has informed governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of his intention to bid for party’s ticket to run for President.

He made the disclosure at the occasion of an Iftar (the break of fast during Ramadan) on Sunday.

The Vice President noted his capacity and experience having been Vice President for about seven years.

According to him, he had consulted widely and informed President Muhammadu Buhari.

He pointed out that he felt the governors were the people to inform next, a source close to the meeting said.

It was gathered that about 10 APC governors attended the meeting, led by Chair of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu.

Some of the governors in attendance include Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Adegboyega Oyetola (Osun), Hope Uzodimma (Imo) and Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna).

Governor Bagudu, who responded on their behalf, it was gathered, said the APC governors were looking forward to the party continuing to hold the levers of power in the country after the 2023 election.

Former Lagos State Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi have declared their intention to vie for the APC presidential ticket.

There are speculations that Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele will also join the race on the ruling party’s platform.

The APC is yet to announce its timetable for the primaries, which are expected to hold next month.

Sustain synergy for economic enhancement – Yemi Osinbajo

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Friday in Abakaliki urged the three tiers of government to sustain the existing synergy between them to enhance national economy.

He gave the charge while closing the 21st edition of the Joint Planning Board and the National Council on Development Planning meeting which began on April 6.

The vice-president said that such synergy would assist in surmounting challenges hindering economic enhancement.

“These challenges include corruption, recovery from the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic effects of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

“The invasion has led to price and supply shocks in the food and fuel markets and we should collectively brace for its inevitable economic challenges,’’ he said.

The vice-president commended the National Council on Development Planning for sustaining the meeting, noting that it remained an important platform to set the tone for the nation’s economic recovery.

“President Muhammadu Buhari strongly believes that national councils such as this play an important role in boosting economic and related cooperation between states.

“This ensures better coordination of economic policies to ensure poverty reduction and sustainable economic development,’’ he stressed.

Osinbajo commended the Ebonyi government for ensuring the successful organisation of the event and its infrastructural strides which had enhanced its people’s wellbeing.

In his remarks, Ebonyi’s Gov. David Umahi thanked the vice-president for the visit and the National Council on Development Planning for choosing Ebonyi to host the meeting.

“I specifically commend the vice-president for his commitment and loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari and their doggedness in confronting the nation’s daily challenges.

“The challenges facing the country are not peculiar but global with the country only having its fair share of such challenges.

“I believe strongly that with God, patriotism and commitment, the efforts of both leaders would see us through the challenges,’’ Gov. Umahi said.

The governor advised Nigerians that the call for states and local government councils to control Value Added Tax was an invitation to anarchy as it should be left for the Federal Government to control.

Also addressing the close of the meeting, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, noted that recommendations from the meeting would enhance development planning.
