Osinbajo performs groundbreaking of bridge linking Yenegoa to Southern Ijaw

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has performed the groundbreaking of the construction of Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, which will link Yenogoa, Capital of Bayelsa, to Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

Delivering a speech at the event on Saturday, Osinbajo, who drove through the Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie road, said that the natural beauty and enormous potential of the great state was poignant and self evident.

He said that the construction of the bridge, which was, in itself, a significant component of the road, would have far reaching impact on the lives of the people of the community and unlock their potential.

“The farmers and fishermen that will be connected to new markets as easier and more efficient logistics enables them expand their operations, employ more people, and provide better opportunities for their families.

“Not to mention the improvement of security through an access road that circumvents sea pirates, and allows traders go about their businesses safely.

“No local economy in the world can survive by being isolated; cities and towns thrive partly because they develop and sustain infrastructure that allows for profitable and free economic, social, and cultural exchanges.

“And so by facilitating easier access to places like Yenagoa, and beyond, with this bridge, we will be laying a foundation for development that will deepen commerce and create individual and collective opportunities for the people of these communities.’’

According to him, communities like Oporoma, Angiama, and others across the Niger-Delta, are host to vast amounts of mineral wealth and natural resources.

He said that the communities deserved to have considerable developmental gains to show for it.

“We are well on our way towards correcting historical lapses in this respect, as a matter of urgency, through the collaborative efforts of the federal, state, and local governments, each one putting aside personal interests, and doing the best they can for the communities which have undeservedly suffered for so long.

“And so we take this bridge, in the long line of Gov. Douye Diri’s ambitious projects across health, education, security and infrastructural development, as a symbol of those ongoing efforts.

“It should not cost you almost the same amount of money to move from Oporoma or Angiama to Yenagoa, as it does to Benin or Lagos; and we believe those days are almost behind you.

“We are confident that what your administration has started will be completed at the highest level of quality and in good time.

“We encourage the people of the community to take ownership of this, as with all the ongoing projects of this administration, and to work with the government to ensure that it is completed and maintained without hindrance or sabotage.’’

He assured Bayelsa people of Federal Government’s full support and collaboration in every way possible.

He said that the milestone was just the beginning of greater things to come.

“There are dreams on this side of the proposed bridge as it is flagged off today – dreams that it will be speedily completed, and that our people will thus be connected to all the possibilities needed to realise their full potentials.

“Once more, I congratulate Gov. Diri, the government and people of Bayelsa on these game changing achievements as they unfold.

“We celebrate the progress being made here today and stand with you in your journey to building a Bayelsa that commands the respect of cities everywhere in the world, a Bayelsa where every town, village, people, or person, can benefit from their God given resources and live their lives in peace and prosperity.”

In his address, Diri said that Osinbajo had demonstrated that indeed he was a Bayelsan by his presence at the event.

He said he was pleased the historic and iconic event of the groundbreaking of the Angiama-Oporoma Link Bridge would occur during the activities commemorating the second anniversary of the prosperity administration.

The governor said he was pleased that a valued and cherished leader, friend and brother accepted the invitation to perform the groundbreaking of the project.

He also commended the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the firm handling the project and appreciated the Federal Government for its support.

“CCECE has proven to us that they are our reliable friends; they have proven to us that they have what it takes to complete this bridge at a reliable time.

“May I at this juncture appreciate the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“This, indeed, is a Federal Government road; and upon the construction by the previous administration, ranging from former President Goodluck Jonathan, when he was governor, down to Seriake Dickson Restoration Government, you all remember that recently, we had a refund of infrastructure which was refunded by the Federal Government under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“And those were of the funds that have enabled us to do what we are doing across the state,’’ he said.

Diri said he would continue to partner with the Federal Government in developing the state.

The highlight of the event was the conferment of chieftaincy title on the vice president—“Ebiyiakubo-owei keni of Agia-Ibe’’ meaning the One Who Brings Glory to the Land of Agie-Ibe.

Osinbajo had earlier paid a courtesy call to traditional rulers at the Bayelsa Traditional Rulers Council Secretariat, Yenegoa.

Our govt is focused on welfare of common man – Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government remains committed to the welfare of the common man.

Osinbajo on Friday in Abuja made this known via a statement issued by his spokesman, Laolu Akande after receiving a delegation of the APC Professionals Forum at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said that APC is a party of the people and would continually ensure that the common man benefits maximally from the government.

“This is a party of the common man; a party of the people, a party that takes as its cradle, the importance of ensuring that the common man benefits maximally from the government.

“Which is why we have the big programmes like the Social Investment Programmes, the largest if its kind in the continent and several of such other programmes that emphasise how serious we take the lot of the common man.

“While it was formed about nine years ago, the VP noted that the party has made an impact and is determined to improve the wellbeing of Nigerians; the party is also where many young people are.”

According to him, APC is the ruling party in Africa’s largest democracy which by itself is a phenomenal achievement for such a young party.

Osinbajo said that the APC is determined to ensure the country’s further growth and development as the party carried with it, the hopes and expectations of millions of Nigerians.

“The party is not a mere platform for running for political office; it carries with it the hopes and expectations of millions of Nigerians and we must make it a place where they are comfortable, a place where they feel this belongs to us; we can even put our resources into it.

“It is not just for politicians; it is for us all.

“Our people, the Nigerian people, need hope; they need to be able to believe in the politicians.

“They need to be able to believe in their leaders and if the leaders are within the political party, that political party must have an ideology that is attractive to them, that makes them feel wanted, that makes them feel cared for and I think that role is so crucial.

“It is the role this Professional Forum must take on to itself; and what it entails aside from that logical objective of the forum; what it entails is actually defining in writing in various ways what our party stands for.”

He acknowledged the significance of the forum in the scheme of things and urged the forum to play more important roles in shaping the party’s ideology.

The vice president said that professionals are integral to ensuring that the party stayed focused on the wellbeing of Nigerians and its ideals, as stated in the Constitution and Manifesto respectively.

“If the professionals cannot do that, then our party becomes all comers, anything goes so long as we have a platform to run for political office; but I think that we, especially professionals, have a unique advantage.

“We have many who have run their businesses, who have professional organisations or who have excelled in their own professions and we know that the only way to do things properly is if we are able to press on without relenting.”

The vice president said he hoped that the forum would also carry the hopes and expectations of millions of the party’s supporters nationwide.

He also believed that the forum, made up of professional elites, would be of great benefit to the party and Nigeria because of its leadership and quality of professionals on its board of trustees and as members.

In his remarks, a former Governor of Bauchi State, Mallam Isa Yuguda, who is the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the forum, said that professionals in the party felt the need to identify with the vice president being himself a professional.

He invited Osinbajo to the forum’s upcoming event in Abuja.

The delegation also included Deputy Chairman, Board of Trustees and former APC National Secretary, Waziri Bulama, Board of Trustees Secretary, Barr. Dapo Akinosun and the National Coordinator, Akeem Akintayo.

The vice president said that in the last 60 years the award had impacted on more than one million young people.

He said that the award had also galvanised more than 180, 000 adult volunteers all over the world, including moblising young people to respond to the disruptive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic across the globe.

“The award is a long running initiative of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh of Blessed Memory; His highness has been described as one lived a life of service to his nation; to the Commonwealth and to the world at large.

“His personal values of service above self shine through the conception and execution of this programme and we, in Nigeria remember with great fondness, his sense of humour, his kindness, common touch and his keenness to learn about other peoples and cultures remain evergreen in our memories of him.

“Tonight’s ceremony is an occasion for recognising the achievement of young people who have completed the Gold Standard of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.’’

Osinbajo said that the event provided an opportunity of not only to showcase the resourcefulness of young Nigerians but also honour the values that the duke represented in his life time.

According to him, the achievements that are being celebrated are of young people, who despite challenges have also challenged themselves to make a big difference to themselves and to their communities.

“The recipients have learnt how to be responsible to themselves and their communities by participating in various voluntary activities, including community environmental sanitation, promoting awareness on climate change, advocacy on mental health and drug abuse issues.

2023: ‘Be careful of Osinbajo’ – Reno Omokri sends warning to Tinubu

Reno Omokri has sent a warning to the National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to be careful of Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

This is coming after Tinubu informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to vie for the presidential ticket of the party in 2023.

He, however, failed to comment on his position regarding Osinbajo’s candidacy for 2023.

“I am still consulting. And I have no problem consulting. And I’ve not set a parameter of limitation to the extent of how many people I will consult. You will soon hear, all you want to hear is the categorical declaration. You have gotten that truth from me that I have informed Mr. President of my ambition, I did not expect more answers than that,” Tinubu said.

Reacting, Reno Omokri warned that Osinbajo’s recent statements, pictures, and mannerisms are suspicious.

According to him, the Vice President’s attempt to distance himself from Buhari is a warning for Tinubu to be very careful.

On his Twitter page, he wrote: “With the way and manner Vice President Osinbajo is packaging himself, carefully releasing scripted subliminal messages, and releasing staged ‘un-staged’ photos, and attempting to distance himself from Buhari, one thing is VERY clear: Tinubu needs to be VERY careful.”

Delta Rep, Waive urges Osinbajo to contest 2023 presidential election

The member representing Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Francis Waive has called on Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to contest the 2023 presidential election.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Hon. Waive asked Osinbajo to contest the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a statement on Saturday.

In the statement he personally signed, Waive who is the only APC member of the House from Delta State, opined that nobody from the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) can match the candidacy of Osinbajo.

While stressing that the Vice President will win the 2023 presidential election with ease from the APC, the lawmaker called on APC leaders to do the needful and support Osinbajo if the party is to win the 2023 presidential election.

Waive, who is the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Power as well as Chairman Nigeria Niger Parliamentary Friendship Group, stressed that the Vice President has displayed all the character traits of a good leader.

He further stressed that the Vice President has been a trustworthy and loyal deputy to President Muhammadu Buhari, while pointing out that Osinbajo has proven capacity to turn the fortunes of Nigeria around, building on the foundation laid by the present administration.

Nigeria, Waive said, needs a younger leader like Osinbajo, who the lawmaker argued, has the presence of mind, vast contacts around the country and respect for the multi ethnic and multi religious dimensions of the country.

“Prof Osinbajo’s intellectual dept, managerial abilities, patience and tolerance is what our country needs at this crucial time in our history,” Waive emphasized.

He, therefore, called on all people of goodwill to pray and work for the emergence of the Vice President as President of Nigeria come 2023.

2023: Shelve your ambition, don’t waste your money – Primate Ayodele tells Osinbajo

The Leader Of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele has warned Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to shelve his presidential ambition.

The fiery prophetic man of God told Osinbajo not to spend money to contest the 2023 presidential election, stressing that if he should do so, it will amount to waste of money and effort.

Ayodele made this known in a statement released on Wednesday by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, saying that God has not anointed him to rule Nigeria.

He warned Osinbajo should not mismanage his money because he will face crises and scandals, and that several documents would be used against him.

He noted that his ambition will cause issues between him and his superior, President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I want to advise the Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo not to mismanage his money on his presidential ambition. He will face several crises and lots of documents will be used against him.

“He has not consulted God, He shouldn’t deceive himself with Babangida’s endorsement, God did not anoint him to rule Nigeria.

“God has honoured him already and instead of wasting resources, he should consult God well but at the moment, VP Osinbajo isn’t who God has in plan for Nigeria.

“President Buhari doesn’t want him there including some of his subordinates, they will use scandals to finish him,” the statement quotes Ayodele to have said.
