    No new minimum wage for Yobe workers yet – Gov’s Aide

    The Yobe State Government says a viral post credited to it on the approval of a new minimum wage is false and misleading. This is contained in a statement by Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, Gov. Mai Mala Buni’s Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, issued in Damaturu on Thursday. He said the state government did not issue any statement on the new minimum wage as it was still working on it.

    “The attention of the Yobe Government has been drawn to a false and misleading post on social media alleging approval of a new minimum wage. The government has not issued any statement with regard to the minimum wage as it is still working on it, and would provide a statement on this, as soon as it is completed.

    “It is therefore grossly irresponsible, preemptive and misleading for anyone to unofficially speak, or post any statement for, or on behalf of the state government. The post failed to provide details nor indicate when and where the statement emanated, making the content professionally discredited,” Mohammed said.

    The aide said a national daily had already disowned the content, saying that the logo used on the online post did not emanate from it and the story could not be found on its website. He, therefore, advised the public to disregard the “ mischievous and misleading post.

    Chaos as bomb explodes in Yobe cattle market

    There was a chaotic moment at the Buni Yadi Cattle Market in Yobe State on Friday after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted in the market exploded and injured a minor hawking sachet water in the market.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Captain Mohammed Shehu, Spokesperson of the sector disclosed this in Damaturu.

    He, however, said another IED planted at the market was defused successfully by troops of Sector II Joint Task Force in the North-East Operation “Hadin Kai”.

    Captain Shehu said the IED was planted by suspected Boko Haram insurgents, targeting vigilante members.

    Also confirming the incident, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, Spokesman of the Police Command in the State, said the 12-year-old victim sustained a fracture in her leg as a result of the explosion.

    According to him, the victim is receiving treatment for the injury at a hospital.

    He called on the citizenry to always report suspicious persons or objects to security agents for action.

    Buni Yadi, is about 54km from Damaturu, the State capital.

    A video showing the moment some northern youths destroyed a billboard erected by the state government to welcome President Bola Tinubu into the state has caused a stir on social media.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports a video clip captured the alleged incident which occurred shortly after the Vice President, Kashim Shettima visited the state on Saturday to launch the Yobe State Agricultural Empowerment Programme.

    In the video making rounds, a yet be idenitified youths can be seen climbing onto the billboard which features a photograph of President Tinubu, Kashim Shettima and Hon Mai Mala Buni with a caption: ‘Thank you Mr president, we are honoured and encouraged by your visit. Have a safe trip.’

    This development comes at the heels of the planned protest by some Nigerians against the Tinubu-led government over the exacerbated nation’s economic challenges.

    Medical doctors in Yobe shun NLC strike

    The Yobe chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has dissociated itself from the ongoing  nationwide strike embarked by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

    The association’s Chairman, Dr Abubakar Mala, told newsmen in Damaturu on Monday that the state’s NMA is not part of the strike and will continue to provide medical services to patients.

    He said “we are not joining the NLC strike , we are fully attending to patients, our clinics are open, and we have been in the surgery theater and everywhere, attending to the sick.”

    Mala added that the NMA’s decision to distance itself from the strike was to ensure uninterrupted medical attention to residents.

    He, therefore, urged residents to go to the hospital to access care as doctors,  nurses and other health workers are available to attend to them.

    We will clear Yobe LG elections – APC boasts

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed optimism of clearing the June 8 local government councils elections set to hold in Yobe State.

    Alhaji Muhammed Gadaka, the APC Chairman said this at the inauguration of the party’s campaign for the election on Wednesday in Damaturu.

    Gadaka called on the party faithful to vote massively for the party to ensure its victory at the poll.

    He lauded Gov. Mai Mala Buni for appointing many youths in key position of the government.

    He urged the party’s candidates to reach out to the electorate across the state to campaign for the poll.

    The chairman handed over the party’s flags to seven candidates from Zone A, where the campaign was launched.

    Mr Aji Bularafa, a chieftain of the party, called on electorate, especially women to come out en masse to cast their votes in the election.

    Buni appoints new Emir of Tikau

    Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has approved the appointment of Alhaji Abubakar Muhammadu Ibn-Grema as the new Emir of Tikau in Nangere Local Government Area of the State.

    This is contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, in Damaturu on Tuesday.

    Appointment of the emir followed the death of his father and  former Emir of Tikau, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Ibn-Grema.

    The statement revealed that the new emir’s appointment was based on “ unanimous recommendation of the kingmakers of Tikau Emirate Council.”

    According to the statement, Ibn-Grema holds a Bachelor of Agric Economics & Extension and MSC  Agric Economics from Bayero University, Kano.

    The statement added that the new emir was a Principal Manager at Yobe State University Farms in Damaturu,before his appointment.

    “He has attended various courses which include training on Environmental Impact Assessment at Ecosystem International Limited, Lagosand Health and Safety Training/induction, University of Reading, Berkshire,” the statement reads.

    BREAKING: Popular Yobe monarch dies aged 70

    The Emir of Tikau in Yobe, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Ibn-Grema, is dead.

    The emir’s younger brother, Alhaji Abubakar Talba, confirmed the death in an interview in Damaturu on Saturday.

    Talba, a prince of the Tikau Emirate Council, said that Ibn-Grema died in Potiskum at about 4 pm on Friday.

    “Yes, I can confirm to you that the Emir died after a brief illness. He was over 70 years old at the time of his death,” he said.

    The prince said the deceased, a first class chief, would be buried by 4 pm on Saturday according to Islamic rites.

    Ibn-Grema, whose palace is located in Nangere Local Government Area, was the paramount ruler of the Karekare people.

    He was installed as Emir on July 25, 2001, and spent 23 years on the throne before his demise.

    Gov Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has declared Wednesday, Feb 7, a work free day to mark a three-day prayers for late former Governor of the state, Sen Bukar Abba Ibrahim.

    Alhaji Mamman Mohammed,the Director General, Press and Media Affairs to the governor said this while addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Damaturu.

    He said the day was set aside to offer prayers for the former governor who died in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

    The three days prayers, according to him, would be offered at the Government House Mosque, Damaturu.

    Mohammed said Yobe government had officially took over the funeral rites to honour the late governor.

    He also explained that Gov Buni, in the company of government officials and the family of the late governor, has been receiving condolences from sympathisers from within and outside the state at the Government House, Damaturu.

    Former Yobe Governor to be buried in Saudi Arabia

    Former Governor of Yobe State, Sen. Bukar-Abba Ibrahim, who died on Sunday, will be buried in Saudi Arabia.

    Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, the Director-General, Press and Media Affairs to Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe announced this to newsmen in Damaturu on Sunday.

    According to Mohammed, the former governor, died on Sunday in a Saudi Arabia hospital after a protracted illness.

    He said the deceased will be buried in Saudi Arabia, while funeral services will be conducted in Yobe.

    “Meanwhile, condolences are to be received by Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Government House Mosque, Damaturu.

    “Gov. Buni described the death as a huge loss to the government and people of the state,” Mohammed said.

    “He prayed to Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and admit him into paradise,  Mohammed said.

    Ibrahim was the governor of Yobe from May 1999 to May 2007.

    In 2007, he was elected as a senator for Yobe East, and was re-elected on the same position in 2011.

    APC’s Mustapha wins Yobe East by-election to succeed son-inlaw in Senate

    Alhaji Musa Mustapha of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared as the winner of the Yobe East Senatorial District by-election that held on Saturday.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Mustapha was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

    Mustapha entered the Senatorial race to replace his son-in-law, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, who represented the Yobe East Senatorial District in the 10th Senate before his appointment as Minister of Police Affairs by President Bola Tinubu.

    Prof Ibrahim Jajere, the INEC Returning Officer for the election announced the results on Sunday in Damaturu.

    “Umar Kalli of ADC party scored 452 votes, Musa Mustapha of APC scored 68,778 votes, Hussaini Auwalu of APGA scored 412 votes, Muhammed Jawa of NNPP scored 251, Kolomi Ali of PDP scored 18,878 votes.

    “That Musa Mustapha of APC having certified the requirements of the law is hereby declared winner and is returned elected,” Jajere stated.

    Shortly after declaring him a winner, Mustapha thanked people for their support.

    He promised to work tirelessly to bring the needed development to the people of the zone and the state at large.

    He commended INEC officials, security agencies and journalists for their dedication to duty.

    Mustapha also thanked Gov Mai Mala Buni and entire members of the party for their unwavering support.

    However, the PDP agent, Alhaji Bashir Sadiq, said that the election was not credible.

    “There was an open, brazen and unprecedented act of vote buying in almost all the places I visited and we have taken note of that,” he said.

    He added that the party would look at the results and come out with a position.

    Commenting, Mr Victor Kalu, the Team Leader, Coalition of INEC Accredited Observer Group, said the election was transparent, credible, free and fair.
