    Nollywood actors, Yoruba youths, UNIMAID pay tribute to late Alaafin of Oyo

    Some Nollywood actors on Saturday mourned the passage of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Alaafin of Oyo.

    The late Alaafin died on Friday night at the Afe Babalola Teaching Hospital Ado-Ekiti.

    The actors took to their Instagram pages to pay tribute to the late oba with the display of his pictures.

    Ademola Adetunji wrote, “ATANDA became a king at 31 and ruled for 52 years, died at 83…LAMIDI was a true example of not too young to rule. RIP Atanda Olayiwola Lamidi Adeyemi….IKU BABA YEYE. Sunre ooo.”

    Also, Adebayo Salami popularly known as “Oga Bello”, said, “I commiserate with the royal family, Oyo State Government and the good people of Oyo kingdom on the transition of His Imperial Majesty Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Alaafin of Oyo.

    “May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him aljannah Firdaos.”

    Another actor, Saheed Balogun, wrote, “Erin wo! RIP Iku Babayeye Kabiyesi Adeyemi Lamidi.”

    Muyiwa Ademola said, “Erin wo, ajanaku sun bi oke. Oba Lamidi Adeyemi ti waja, Atanda roru aremabo. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”

    Kunle Afod wrote, “RIP Kabiyesi Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III Alafin Oyo. You shall forever be remembered.”

    Toyin Afolayan said, “May your soul rest in perfect peace, Baba dada iku Baba yeye, oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi, King of Oyo land, Sun re o.”

    Alaafin’s demise sad – Yoruba youths

    The Grand Council of Yoruba Youths has described as sad, the demise of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who joined his ancestors on Friday at age 83.

    The President-General of the group, Mr Bamiji Awa, in a statement on Saturday in Lagos, said the death of the first-class paramount ruler was a rude shock to the youths.

    “It is so sad to lose this top Yoruba Oba at this crucial period when his wisdom and counsels are most needed,” Awa said.

    According to him, the late Alaafin was naturally supposed to be the royal host of the group’s proposed Yoruba Presidential Aspirants’ meeting under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    He said the meeting was targeted at promoting love and unity before the May 30 Presidential Primaries of the ruling party.

    Oba Adeyemi was the longest reigning Alaafin ever, having ruled for 52 years. He was crowned on Nov.18, 1970, succeeding Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu I.

    Alaafin Adeyemi was born Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi on Oct.15, 1938 into the Alowolodu Royal House of the famous Oyo town.

    He is said to have died at the Aare Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital on Friday and was laid to rest on Saturday within the premises of the palace, in the ancient town of Oyo.

    His death came months after the two other senior Oyo State traditional rulers, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi died.

    UNIMAID mourns Alaafin of Oyo

    Prof. Aliyu Shugaba, Vice-Chancellor, University of Maiduguri has described the demise of its Pro-Chancellor, Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, as a painful exit.

    Shugaba said this in a statement released in Maiduguri on Saturday.

    He said Oba Adeyemi has demonstrated unparalleled passion, and commitment to the development of education in Nigeria in general, and the University of Maiduguri where he served as Pro-Chancellor.

    The VC said the late Alaafin would specifically be remembered for his sterling leadership, sustained fatherly guidance, support and understanding of peaceful coexistence and progress of the university.

    “As the university community mourns his painful exit, may I, on behalf of the Council, Senate, top Management Committee, staff, and students of the University, extend our condolences to the Visitor, President, Muhammadu Buhari, Government of Oyo State, members of his immediate family and the entire Oyo Kingdom.

    “We pray to Allah to grant him Jannatul-Firdaus Ameen,” Shugaba said.

    “Village Headmaster” back on screen after 34 years hiatus

    After 34 years hiatus, “Village Headmaster”, the one time Nigeria first longest-running Tv drama series, has now been repackaged and will be shown on three local television stations.

    The Director-General of Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Mallam Yakubu Ibn Mohammed, made the disclosure on Friday at the relaunch and private screening of the repackaged drama series in Abuja.

    He said the drama series would be shown on NTA every Sunday from 8.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m., Africa Independent Television (AIT) every Wednesday 9.00 p.m to 10.00 p.m. and WAP Tv every Friday 8.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.

    Set in Oja, a fictitious Yoruba village, Ibn Mohammed said the series is woven around the lives of the villagers from royalty to the commoners, education and so in.

    He recalled that before the series went off screen decades back, it captivated viewers and was addictive to many in those days.

    The NTA boss said the series was brought back to reenact the characters, bring back the moral values, national unity and cohesion it taught in those days.

    He thanked Chief Wale Adenuga who committed his wealth of experiences and resources for the series’ production and Globacom for its sponsorship.

    Ibn- Mohammed expressed regrets that some of the original cast of the series had passed on and not available to witness the rebirth of the iconic series.

    He said prominent among them included late Chief Segun Olusola, former Nigeria Ambassador to Ethiopia, who created the series as a member of staff of the then Western Nigeria Television, Ibadan.

    The D-G said the new cast is super-packed with the choicest names in the movie industry including some of the founding members of the series, notably, Dejumo Lewis as Kabiyesi, Alison Ibrahim as Amebo, Dan Imodu as Dagbolu and Dele Osawe as Teacher Fadile.

    Other prominent members of the cast included Popular musician 9ice, Mr Latin, Funky Mallam, Jide Kosoko, Okele, Omo Ibadan and Fathia Balogun.

    Also speaking at the event, Adenuga thanked the NTA boss and family for bringing back the series noting that the TV house inspired them from script to screen.

    Mr Wale Adedeji, representative of Globacom, said they were glad to be the sponsor of the content which celebrates culture, inspires unity and teaches moral values.

    Dejo Tunfulu attended a party three days ago – Mr Latin

    Popular Yoruba comic actor, Kunle Adetokunbo, popularly known as “Dejo Tunfulu” has been confirmed dead, aged 49.

    Bolaji Amusan, National President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), confirmed the death on Friday.

    Amusan aka Mr Latin, who was in shock and emotional about the development, said the deceased died on Thursday night.

    He said the sad occurrence was shocking as late Adetokunbo still attended a party three days ago.

    “Yes, we lost Dejo Tunfulu, I am so shocked because he still attended a party three days ago.

    “May God grant him eternal rest, the association will communicate to the public further,” he said.

    Adetokunbo is a prominent Yoruba comic actor, writer, and producer.

    Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho has been released from prison in Benin Republic.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Sunday Igboho was released on Monday and handed to Yoruba leader, Banji Akintoye; French Language Expert, Adeniran by the Benin Republic government.

    In a statement by the Communications Secretary to Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, Akintoye described the release of Igboho as a triumph of truth over darkness in Yoruba land.

    Popular Yoruba actress, Shade Akintaylor aka Oluweri Magbo Ojo is dead.

    She died at the age of 59 on Monday, February 28, 2022, in the United Kingdom.

    Her family members broke the news of her death but did not announce the cause of her death.

    According to the family, “Shade AKINTAYLOR Lives On. OLUWERI MAGBO OJO. ADIEU. The Akintaylor & Ajibola Family announces the passage of our Sister.”

    “She Left Us Quietly and Peacefully Last Night in the UK. Sleep On, Our Angel, Until We Part No More. Our Sister would have clocked 60 years in October.”

    Baba Wande mourns Nollywood actor, Tafa Oloyede

    Veteran Yoruba Actor, Alhaji Kareem Adepoju, popularly known as Baba Wande, has described the death of a fellow Yoruba Actor, John Adewumi, also known as Tafa Oloyede, as very painful.

    Oloyede, died on Tuesday at his residence in Arowomole , Kajola area of Osogbo.

    Oloyede had featured in several movies, including Akanji Oniposi, Jaiyesimi, Ayanmo, Orogun and Ekuro Oloja among others.

    The late veteran actor came into limelight in the entertainment industry in 1974 under the tutelage of the late theatre icon, Oyin Adejobi.

    Adepoju, while speaking with NAN on Wednesday, in Osogbo said that he spoke with the deceased on Tuesday morning before his death.

    “I spoke with him on Tuesday morning, but I was surprised when I was later told that he died in the evening of the same day,” he said.

    Adepoju, who noted that the late veteran was his junior in age and in the acting profession, said they were still close and work together as colleagues.

    According to him, Oloyede’s death is a big loss to the theater act family and will be greatly be missed.

    Nollywood actor, Tafa Oloyede is dead

    Nollywood actor, John Adewuni Adewoye, popularly known as Tafa Oloyede is dead. He was 69 years old.

    Osun state Secretary of the Theatre Arts and Motion Picture Producers Association of Nigeria, Ademola Oyedokun broke the news of Tafa’s death on Tuesday.

    Tafa, who hailed from Ede, died in his Osogbo home on Tuesday.

    Born on 19 November 1952, he would have clocked 70 this year.

    He began acting in 1974 and had his tutelage under late Oyin Adejobi.

    He featured in many movies such as ‘Jaiyesimi’, ‘Ayanmo’, ‘Ekuro Oloja’, ‘Orogun’, ‘Akanji Oniposi.’

    He is survived by wife and children.

    Tributes poured in for Oloyede on Tuesday night.

    Adeyemi Olabode an OAP with Rave 91.7 Fm, Osogbo wrote on Facebook:

    “I’m yet to come to terms with the reality that I won’t see or hear from you again Daddy! You love me and will always check on me. You are a devoted fan who loves what I do on radio and will always pray for me. You will always remind me of your birthday for shout-out. Apart from WhatsApp communication, it pains me that I haven’t spoken with you this year. Ahh Baba rere is no more! Rest in peace Baba Tafa Oloyede”.

    Lanre Azeez of King Sunny Ade Ariya Kingdom wrote: Another great Star in make-believe world has left the orbit, creating a space hardly could be filled. One of the greatest and earliest thespians who started from childhood till old age in stage-drama-movie in Nigeria’.

    Frontline Yoruba leader, Olufemi Adegoke is dead

    The Chairman of a foremost Pan-Yoruba Intelligentsia Group, Voice of Reason (VOR), Dr. Olufemi Adegoke, is dead.

    The late Adegoke was the father of Nigerian born member of British Parliament, Olukemi Olufunto Adegoke – Badnock, a member of the Conservative Party, who has served in Boris Johnson’s government as Minister of State for Levelling Up Communities and Minister of State for Equalities.

    Dr. Olufemi Adegoke was a man of unquestionable character and a man whose lifestyle was a model. He was resolute and committed towards the complete decommissioning of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

    Adegoke spent his last years on the surface of earth working for the advancement and liberation of the Yoruba people.

    He was an unparalleled patriot of the Yoruba people and an Intellectual Giant whose courage and candour goes beyond the cosmos.

    The late Olufemi Adegoke, a Medical Veteran, hailed from Ondo Town in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo-State.

    Meanwhile, The Alana of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Banji Akintoye and all the Yoruba Self-determination agitators within and beyond the shores of Yoruba Land has sympathised with the Adegoke’s clan Worldwide on this irreparable lost of their Patriarch and wish them the fortitude to bear the lost.

    Why I’m no longer Sunday Igboho’s lawyer – Olajengbesi

    Pelumi Olajengbesi, one of the lawyers of Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho has resigned from his position.

    Olajengbesi made this known in a statement on Sunday, noting that he said in the beginning, that the scope of his work would only be within the purview of his professional duty as a lawyer to Mr Igboho and his aides.

    He also disclosed that while he is a strong believer in constitutional democracy, civil liberty and human rights which includes the right to self-determination, he is not a Yoruba nation agitator nor a member of any like organization.

    The statement read: “This is to officially announce my resignation as counsel involved further in any matter relating to Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho and the Yoruba Nation Agitators.

    “As a firm, we are satisfied with our little best in contributing to providing legal solutions and representations to Chief Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho) and associated Yoruba Nation Agitators as far as ensuring the protection and enforcement of their rights in this matter.

    “We were able to secure the release of twelve (12) persons brutally and unlawfully arrested by the reckless State Security Service (SSS), and also secured the release of an innocent herbalist equally unlawfully arrested and detained by the SSS.

    “We have two persons with on-going terrorism trials at the Federal High Court and our firm will dutifully continue and close the trial having commenced their matter.

    “While thanking everyone, particularly Chief Yomi Aliyu SAN for the opportunity, and freehand service, Dr. OLASUPO Ojo for his fair leadership and Chief Femi Falana for allowing his industry to be tapped and for the moral support, I most respectfully wish to now step aside.

    “I have stated ab initio that the scope of my work will only be within the purview of my professional duty as a lawyer to Sunday Igboho and his aides . I am a strong believer in constitutional democracy, civil liberty and human rights which includes the right to self-determination but I am not a Yoruba nation agitator nor a member of any like organization.

    “My reaction to Prof. Akintoye was not to undermine the Yoruba struggle but is based off my personal convictions which I am entitled to. I do hope my friends in the struggle will allow me enjoy the benefit of my right to such a choice as a person of thought and conscience”.

    Avoid me if you don’t like my Yoruba accent – Murphy Afolabi

    Popular actor Murphy Afolabi has reacted to critics of his heavy Yoruba accent.

    In a recent chat with BBC, the actor said he is an indigene of Osogbo in Osun state which explains his obvious accent.

    He said it is something that is inborn and cannot be changed even if he were to give it a thought.

    Afolabi noted that he would be inaudible and incomprehensible if he attempted to suppress his accent.

    He said,: “There is nothing like someone is making fun of me. Your place of birth is your state. You can’t give birth to someone in Osun state and then you go to Lagos and say you want to have hairs like your father.

    “I was given birth to in Osogbo and everyone knows that in my village, the way we pronounce our ‘S’ is different from the others.

    “If you want to force yourself to speak like a Lagosian, people would hardly hear you. This is the way I’ll talk till I grow old. Whoever doesn’t like it should not play with me.”
