ICYMI: Nigerian youths lack skills for available jobs – Tinubu

The Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, has said that Nigerian youths lack the skill-set for available jobs in the country, thereby making them unemployable.

Tinubu, who spoke at a workshop organised by her senatorial office for 260 interns in Lagos yesterday, said several of those who are able to secure jobs are not ready to work, they only want the security of a fixed income, and unwilling to make impact, while some have no idea of how to adjust to working in a corporate environment.
She said this was why her senatorial office is placing emphasis on skills development and increasing knowledge base for the youths. She explained: “This Work Experience Programme (WEP) is borne out of the need to inculcate in our unemployed graduates, the skills, work place etiquette, and hands-on experience required to make them more attractive to potential employers, and successful in the labour market.
The 260 interns drawn from Lagos Senatorial District, she said, would be assigned to corporate organisations to acquire skills and work experience. “Thus, we have put together this workshop as a precursor to your resumption at your various places of assignment. The theme of this workshop, ‘Building Youth Capacity for Effective Engagement’, sums up why we are here. It is to ensure that you are off to a good start, on a sound footing and with the right ideas,” declared Tinubu.

The senator disclosed that “an allowance of forty thousand naira (N 40,000) will be paid by my office to cover your day-to-day expenses throughout the duration of the programme. Half of it will be paid at the onset of the programme and the balance paid upon receipt of letter from your assigned organisation, certifying that you took part in and completed the intern ship.”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos Central Senatorial District Leader, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, hailed Senator Tinubu for the numerous empowerment programmes she had embarked on to assist the less-privileged in her constituency. He described the senator as a pacesetter, saying no senator in Nigeria can beat her records in empowerment programmes.

Nigeria@59: Shun Ethno-religious divisions, Sports Minister Urges Youths

    From Jonas Ike, Abuja
Minister of Youths and Sports Mr Sunday Dare has joined millions of Nigerians to felicitate with the nation at 59th Independence anniversary.
He said:”I felicitate with Nigerians, particularly our vibrant youth that form an active segment of our population.
Our country stands at the threshold of history under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari as the administration continues to correct the ills of the past and strives to bequeath a legacy of a prosperous Nigeria.
Mr. President’s vision of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years is achievable if we focus on developing our youth that make up the chunk of our population to become globally competitive and equipped to contribute to national development. This is a drive I am committed to spearhead.
In pursuit of this, over the past few weeks of assuming office, we have laid the building blocks of programmes that will not only rejuvenate our sports but also develop our youth through a combination of empowerment and employment.
An economically empowered youth, is an emancipated youth and the multiplier effect on the nation is better felt, than imagined. We are poised to delivering this, in line with the Presidential Mandate.
As we celebrate today, let us focus on things that unite us, and deemphasize those that deepen division. Bitterness, ethno-religious division and strife have no place in the prosperous Nigeria of our dreams.
We must join hands to build the nation we seek. If we all do what is right within our sphere of influence, the New Nigeria we desire will rise. The occasion of our nation’s 59th Independence anniversary is a good time to remind ourselves that change begins with us.
    Happy Independence Day, Nigeria”.
  • Nigerians are Nigeria’s problem- Ruggedman

Nigerian rapper and social commentator, Ruggedman has slammed Nigerian youths over the apathy they exhibit when it comes to issues of national importance.

Ruggedy Baba as he is fondly called by his fans made this known via his Instagram page on Sunday.

According to him, young Nigerians act weak when it comes to issues of national importance.

In his words:”Dear Nigerians, Coming from hosting (without one corporate sponsor) a very successful #TheFoundationConcert that celebrated great Nigerians, I thought to say a few words to you.
Have you seen any youth calling out celebrities for not supporting BBN house mates? No.
They gathered themselves and are doing a great job on their own.
They raised money amongst themselves to print tshirts, even going as far as holding campaign rallies and parties.
But when it comes to a political or police brutality issue that affects their lives personally, they will act weak and instead spend this same energy bashing celebrities for not speaking up. These are the same people who do not need any assistance to support bbn housemates with everything they have got.So who is fooling who?

NIGERIANS ARE NIGERIAS PROBLEM & UNTIL YOU STAND UP FOR WHATS RIGHT, NOTHING WILL CHANGE FOR THE BETTER

I have nothing against the choices you make.
You can choose to celebrate negativity or positivity.
But just know that you can do these same things to help the lives of all Nigerians and not just BBN housemates.
Bbn is a private business that’s enriching some people.
Nigeria is our country that can enrich or atleast make life good for us all.
    Choose your fight wisely”
