    Gov. Bello Matawalle gifts traditional rulers 260 Cadillac cars

    Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara flagged off the distribution of 260 vehicles to traditional rulers in the state on Wednesday in Gusau.

    The flag-off was performed by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar lll.

    The cars included brand new Cadillac 2019 Model for 17 Emirs, 13 Senior District Heads and 230 District Heads.

    Speaking at the event, Gov. Matawalle said the gesture was in recognition of the role of traditional institutions in maintaining peace in the state.

    “As we are all aware, the role of traditional rulers in fostering national unity, safeguarding our values, and serving as moral compass for our society cannot be overemphasised.

    “As premier leaders in our communities, traditional rulers play key roles in resolving conflicts and in assisting government to provide fatherly advice to their subjects in the interest of promoting peace and harmony.

    “As our leaders, we would stay steadfastly committed to providing for your welfare, safety and any essential support that will allow you to carry out your duties without incident and with bigger successes,’’ Matawalle said.

    The governor said the gesture was made also in recognition of the status of traditional institutions as custodians of religion and culture as well as vehicle of cohesion and peace.

    He expressed willingness to strengthen the traditional institutions and appreciate their efforts in tackling challenges arising from conflicts to build a more peaceful and prosperous state.

    Matawalle explained that his administration had never taken critical decisions regarding issues of public concern without due consultation with the royal fathers.

    “We rely on you for feedback regarding the impact of our policies as they affect the general public.

    “We always sit together with you to evaluate our policies, debate new options and strategise towards achieving the common objective of building a new Zamfara.

    “This, we shall continue all the time, by the grace of God,’’ he said.

    According to him, government will continue to work with the traditional institution to create a friendly environment for those wishing to contribute their fair share to the progress of Zamfara.

    Matawalle said government was also rehabilitating and reconstructing some of the palaces of the emirs, noting that some of the projects would soon be completed.

    The governor appreciated the Sultan for attending the flag-off and the inauguration of the secretariat of State Council of Ulama (religious leaders).

    Earlier, the Sultan applauded the governor for the gesture and urged the traditional rulers to ensure they maintained their role as fathers by offering articulate and sincere advice to political leaders.

    The Sultan expressed gratitude to Gov. Matawalle for his concern about the welfare of the two important institutions which remained the thread that held society together.

    The Sultan called on the beneficiaries of the gesture to continue to support the administration of Gov. Matawalle by offering their best efforts in ending the challenges facing the people.

    Sultan Abubakar admonished the Zamfara traditional rulers to ensure peace and peaceful coexistence among their subjects.

    He also commended the state government for establishing a Council of Ulama that brought together all Imams and clergymen under one umbrella to enhance unity among Muslims in the state.

    The Emir of Anka and Chairman of Zamfara Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmed, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, thanked the governor for the gesture.

    Ahmed assured government of the traditional council’s continued effort to ensure peace and unity in their communities.

    Zamfara attack: Bandits killed 16 persons, not 24 – Police

    The Police Command in Zamfara, on Monday, confirmed the killing of 16 persons in Sunday’s attack by bandits in Ganar Kiyawa village of Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the State.

    The command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Shehu made this known in Gusau that the figure of 24 deaths dished out by a section of the media, was not correct.

    Sixteen villagers were killed by the bandits during the attack, not 24 or 20, as being reported by a section of the media.

    “The command, in collaboration with the military, is currently conducting an extensive bush combing of the affected community.

    ”This is with a view to returning normalcy and apprehending the perpetrators of this bizarre crime,” Shehu said.

    He called on the people of the state to continue to support government and security agencies with useful information.

    The spokesperson said such cooperation would complement efforts at addressing the security challenges facing the state.

    Matawalle cautions APC governors over party crisis

    Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara has cautioned All Progressives Congress (APC) governors against unguarded statements over the party’s crisis.

    Matawalle said this in a statement by Mr Zailani Bappa, his Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications on Friday in Gusau.

    “It is not right for us to wash our dirty linens in the media, especially at this critical time of the party’s transformation as we move towards a decisive period in 2023.

    “I believe that each of us has been trying his best in his way to move the interest of our great party forward.

    “His Excellency, Gov. Mai Mala Buni has no doubt, contributed immensely to the promotion of the party’s fortunes and indeed all other governors who disagreed with one another.

    “However, we all disagree to agree. That is the beauty of democracy. There is no point in promoting disharmony among ourselves after disagreements are settled,” he said.

    Matawalle added: ”It is not wise to drag the name of His Excellency, Mr President into taking sides on issues that are ordinarily a normal political misunderstanding common to every collection of interests

    “Now, more than ever before, the party needs the strength and unity to face the challenges ahead as we move towards the critical period of elections of which the party must maintain its supremacy at all levels.”

    He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his fatherly role in the party’s affairs.
    Matawalle applauded his colleagues for their contributions to the success of the party.

    “Together as one, we shall continue to conquer and prosper,” he said.

    Matawalle expressed reservation over alleged use of unprintable words by Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state against his colleagues over the party’s crisis.

    Defection: All set to adopt final address in suit to remove Matawalle as Governor

    All is now set for a Federal High Court, Abuja to adopt the final written addresses in a suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to remove Bello Matawalle as Governor of Zamfara State.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the Federal High Court presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo on Thursday fixed April 8 for the adoption of final written addresses in the suit against Matawalle and others, after parties in the suit confirmed joining issues with one another.

    The PDP is praying the court for an order to remove Matawalle as Governor of Zamfar over his defection from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    The party also asked the court to sack the Senators, House of Representatives members and State House of Assembly’s members, who decamped alongside the Governor to APC.

    Counsel for the PDP (plaintiff), Emmanuel Ukala, SAN, confirmed that all his processes had been filed and served on all the defendants. Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, who is the lawyer to the Governor and 34 others, also spoke in the same vein.

    Lawyers to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the APC, which are defendants in the suit informed that they had also joined issues in the matter.

    Justice Ekwo said that with the completion of the exchange of processes by parties, the stage was set for a definite hearing of all pending motions along with the substantive matter.

    He announced that all processes would be adopted on April 8 after which a date for judgment would be fixed. The judge warned that any counsel who failed to be in court on the adjourned date would have his papers deemed adopted.

    PDP to challenge impeachment of Zamfara deputy governor in court

    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it is working on plans to challenge the impeachment of Zamfara deputy governor, Alhaji Mahdi Aliyu by the state House of Assembly from office.

    The party stated this in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba in Abuja.
    Ologunagba said that the impeachment by the House was illegal and as such a nullity.

    “The PDP is reviewing the actions in Zamfara in this violent assault on the Rule of Law and will take appropriate actions necessary.

    “In any case, the PDP and the people of Zamfara will not allow the impunity being foisted on the state to stand and appropriate legal action is being taken in that regard.

    “Fortunately, our party has implicit confidence in the judiciary, which has in the past demonstrated its capacity and ability to defend the Constitution and the Rule of Law,” he said.

    Recall that the House had on Feb. 22, impeached Aliyu from office.

    This followed the adoption of a motion by Majority Leader, Faruku Dosara (APC -Maradun 1) at plenary in Gusau.

    The motion came shortly after the House adopted the report of Justice Haladu Tanko panel which investigated alleged cross misconduct and abuse of office against the deputy governor.

    Speaker Nasiru Muazu, who presided over the sitting, directed the Mr Clerk Saidu Anka, to conduct a voice vote on the impeachment and 22 out of the 22 lawmakers present, voted in favour and the deputy governor was pronounced impeached.

    Gov. Bello Matawalle and Aliyu assumed office office under the platform of PDP, but the governor defected to All Progressives Congress ( APC) on June 28, 2021. Their relationship became sour after Aliyu decided to remain in PDP.

    Matawalle swears in Nasiha as Zamfara’s Deputy Governor

    Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara on Wednesday swore-in Sen. Hassan Nasiha as the state new deputy governor, following the impeachment of Mahdi Aliyu by the State House of Assembly.

    Speaking at the ceremony in Gusau, Matawalle said that the action was to fill the vacuum created by Aliyu’s exit.

    He said that a deputy governor must be vibrant, honest and loyal to the goals of any administration.

    Matawalle said that Nasiha was selected after a wide consultation among stakeholders in the state, describing him as most qualified for the office of the state deputy governor.

    He, however, reminded the new deputy governor that he was appointed at a time when the state required commitment and out-of-box solutions to tackle security, economic and social challenges facing it.

    The governor advised him to abide strictly by the Constitutional provisions guiding the operations of his office.
    Speaking, Nasiha affirmed his loyalty to the governor and his administration.

    He promised to work towards the success of the administration especially in the areas of human capital development.

    “I am very much aware of the state challenges, particularly that of insecurity, I will support the governor’s policies and programmes aimed at bringing peace and development to the state.

    “I promise total loyalty to the governor to enable him achieve good governance in the state.

    “No doubt my appointment as deputy governor is a trust, I am therefore, appealing to public to pray for me in discharging the duty,” he said.

    Nasiha, 62, was Senator representing Zamfara Central at the National Assembly before his appointment.

    He was also the immediate past caretaker Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

    Senator Hassan nominated as Zamfara Deputy Governor

    Senator Muhammad Hassan Nasiha has been nominated as the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Senator Hassan was nominated hours after Mahdi Gusau was impeached as Deputy Governor on Wednesday by the Zamfara State House of Assembly.

    The nomination of Hassan was contained in a letter from the State Governor Bello Matawalle that was read at resumed sitting by the Speaker of the House, Nasiru Mua’zu.

    TNG reports Senator Hassan is representing Zamfara Central Senatorial District.

    The Zamfara House of Assembly impeached the State Deputy Governor from office, following the adoption of a motion by Majority Leader, Faruku Dosara (APC -Maradun 1) at plenary in Gusau.

    The motion came shortly after the House adopted the report of Justice Haladu Tanko panel which investigated alleged cross misconduct and abuse of office against the deputy governor.

    Speaker Muazu, who presided over the sitting, directed the Clerk Saidu Anka, to conduct a voice vote on the impeachment of deputy governor Mahadi Aliyu from office.

    Twenty out of the 22 lawmakers present, voted in favour of the impeachment and the deputy governor was pronounced impeached.

    The House had at its sitting on Feb. 7, served the Aliyu with a Notice of Impeachment over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office.

    The state Chief Judge, Justice Kulu Aliyu, also on Feb. 14, inaugurated an investigative panel on the deputy governor following a request by the lawmakers on Feb. 10.

    The Zamfara State House of Assembly on Monday expressed confidence in the witnesses presented at the investigative panel hearing for the impeachment process against the state’s deputy governor, Mahadi Aliyu-Gusau.

    A counsel to the lawmakers/complainant and Director, Legal Matters of Zamfara of the Assembly, Nasiru Jangebe, stated this while speaking with newsmen after the maiden sitting of the impeachment panel which held at the State High Court 4, Gusau.

    “You know, we have mentioned our case and led seven witnesses before the panel and the matter was adjourned to Tuesday for address.

    “We are satisfied with all our submissions, we believe that the witnesses are credible and unchallengeable,” he said.

    On the restraining order given by the Federal High Court Abuja, Jangebe said when that order was issued, there was no impeachment process against the deputy governor.

    “You know by the provision of the Constitution, once the impeachment process starts, no court should interfere in the matter.

    “Therefore, as far as I am concerned, that order will not affect this process,” he explained.

    The deputy governor who is the defendant was absent at the sitting without representation.

    7 witnesses appear before Zamfara panel on deputy governor’s impeachment

    Seven witnesses appeared before the Zamfara probe panel set up to investigate the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mahadi Aliyu-Gusau as it began sitting on Monday in Gusau.

    Chief Judge of Zamfara, Justice Kulu Aliyu, set up the panel to investigate alleged misconduct and abuse of office levelled against the deputy governor.

    The petitioner, the Zamfara House of Assembly, had announced that it would present seven witnesses and documentary evidence to establish gross misconduct and abuse of office against the deputy governor.

    The proceedings, holding at State High Court, Gusau is being chaired by the Panel Chairman, Justice Halidu Tanko-Soba

    Justice Tanko-Soba promised to be fair during the investigation and would give the deputy governor a chance to defend allegations levelled against him.

    Secretary to the panel, Ashiru Sani-Tsafe, said he had served the deputy governor with all the necessary notices and scanned copies of the delivery report to his email addresses and WhatsApp to serve as evidences.

    Counsel to the petitioner and Director, Legal Matters at the state’s House of Assembly, Nasiru Jangebe, presented the seven witnesses to the panel for cross-examination.

    Jangebe also brought several documents as supporting evidence before the panel.

    Secretary to the State Executive Council, Abubakar Muhammad, the Head of Service, Kabiru Muhammad and former Permanent Secretary, Deputy Governor’s office, Mainasara Bakura, are among those assembled to give evidence before the panel.

    Others witnesses include the Director of Finance, Deputy Governor’s office, Maikano Bungudu, and Cashier to the office, Lawali Adamu, among others.

    ZASIEC commissioner dies in fatal road accident

    Alhaji Hashimu-Shehu Gazura, a commissioner of Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC) is dead.

    Gazura, who was a former member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, it was gathered, died in a fatal road accident on Friday.

    Chairman of the State House of Assembly Service Commission, Alhaji Mansur Bungudu confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.

    According to Bungudu, the deceased will be buried today according to islamic rites.

    “He died yesterday (Friday) as a result of a fatal motor accident on Yawuri Road in Kebbi State.

    “The deceased funeral prayer is scheduled to hold at Gummi Emir’s Palace on Saturday by 11:00 a.m,” the state reads.
