Capello backs Zidane to coach French national team

Former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello thinks Zinedine Zidane has what it takes to manage France.

Capello was speaking to Flashscore on a wide variety of topics. Zinedine Zidane was one of the big personalities covered.

What does the legendary Italian manager think about Zizou as a coach?

“He surprised me with the skill with which he coached Real Madrid. He had the team, but it’s not enough to have the team. You have to know how to manage it, you have to know how to bring it to your side, you have to convince it to do certain things and he had the charisma that he had on the pitch, so I consider him capable of coaching the French team,” Capello said.

“The fact that he didn’t agree to go to other teams makes me realise that he could have accepted a team that was only at the top. After coaching Real Madrid, the top team could be Manchester City or Liverpool.”

“I took a break which has become a great break. I miss it from time to time.”

Zidane also spoke at length about his relationship with Marseille.

“For me, Marseille is the capital of football and also of sport. La Castellane? Many athletes have come from this neighbourhood. That’s why we I would like to see more Marseille players at OM, coming from the neighbourhoods.”

On the regret of never having worn the OM shirt, he said: “It happened like this, it wasn’t me, but Marseille and the club are always in my heart. From the age of 11 to 14 I was at the Vélodrome stadium. I went to the virage north and I would get under the board. In any case, no one will take it away from me.”

Ligue 1: Zidane wants Ronaldo at PSG before signing

Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo is a priority demand of Zinedine Zidane for PSG.

The French giants are preparing for life without Kylian Mbappe, who has reportedly agreed to join Real Madrid in the summer, and are considering replacing him with Ronaldo, says the Mirror.

The switch would see the 37-year-old lining up in the same team as eternal rival Lionel Messi for the very first time.

And with Zidane in talks to succeed Mauricio Pochettino, the former Real coach is demanding Ronaldo be signed as a priority. Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Pochettino hasn’t really settled in the French capital, and looks increasingly likely to leave at the end of the season, whether United come calling or not.

Speculation surrounding the Portugal international’s unhappiness in Manchester has intensified ever since the Red Devils were dumped out of the FA Cup on penalties by Championship side Middlesbrough on Friday.

PSG players believe Zidane ready to replace Pochettino

Players at Paris Saint-Germain are convinced that Zinedine Zidane is set to take over from Mauricio Pochettino as manager.

    Pochettino is heavily linked to

the job at Manchester United, who sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.

According to Marca, there is a real suggestion that Zidane may go to PSG, provided they release Pochettino to join United.

Despite PSG being top of the French Ligue 1 at present, Pochettino is unhappy with the inner workings at the club.

He has friction with sporting director Leonardo, while his family still lives in England.

Emmanuel Petit reveals Zidane ‘learning English’ for next job

France World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit says Zinedine Zidane is learning English – though has questioned whether he’d be tempted by the Manchester United job.

Zidane is being linked with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job at United, though his former France teammate Petit can’t see such a move happening.

“I’m pretty sure after the 2022 World Cup Deschamps will leave the national team and join a club, he hinted at it in a press conference the other day,” Petit said.

“Zinedine has been mentioned as the next France manager for years, ever since he left Madrid the first time, so it would not be a surprise for anyone if that was his next job.”

While Petit did not rule out former Real Madrid coach Zidane taking the United job entirely, he explained why he does not anticipate such a move happening.

“If you are a manager of a football club you need to speak different languages,” the 51-year-old noted.

“There are so many examples of wrong decisions in football – not necessarily the wrong decision about someone’s ability, but about the dressing room being a right fit given all the different nationalities.

“Communication is very important, so if you do not speak the language when you arrive at a club like Manchester United, that could be a big problem.

“I’ve been told that he has been learning English recently, so I think he knows it’s important for his career, but Zinedine being linked with Manchester United – I don’t believe it, to be honest.

“Of course, he’s a big name but he never played in the Premier League and has very little connection with it, so as I said, I don’t believe it.”

The Frenchman is one of the few managers in the club’s shortlist for the possible replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is currently under intense pressure at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo is expected to play a part in potentially persuading Zidane, who is currently out of job, to join him at Old Trafford.

Rob Blanchette of the Bleacher Report said that not all hope has been lost and there is still ‘every chance’ Zidane could join United.

Zidane explodes against journalist: You’re a disgrace

Former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has exploded at a journalist when preparing to attend the Segunda Division promotion playoffs.

Zidane was walking to the stadium to see son Luca Zidane’s Rayo Vallecano against Girona when he was asked by GOL journalist Sergio Quirante about his open letter to Real Madrid fans.

“Sir, how are you? How are you feeling? A quick question: do you have a tense relationship with Real Madrid after the letter?” Quirante asked Zidane.

“Do you keep asking the same stupid questions?” countered Zidane.

Quirante: “No, I’m just asking for the letter.”

Zidane wasn’t convinced: “Right, you keep asking the same stupid questions. What you’re doing is a disgrace.” After the reporter said he would ask “no more”, Zidane continued: “I know you and you know me. The same thing happens every time. Let’s talk about it without the cameras around.”

Zidane then pointed at the cameraman and told him to stop, after which Zidane and Quirante walked away together.

The coach put his arm on the journalist’s shoulder, after which they continued their conversation before the vision cut.
