Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is proud playing for coach Zinedine Zidane.

Lunin has been part of Real’s senior squad this season, working as understudy for Thibaut Courtois.

He told Real’s website: “Zidane told me about how he sees the game, how I have to play and my positioning. Those are things that are asked of goalkeepers. He tells me that I’m here because I deserve to be, that I have to keep working hard and be ready because I may have to play at any time.

“I’m learning every day, I’m training with the best in the business every day. When I’m called on, I’ll try and perform to my best. One Real Madrid appearance is worth 10 at any other club.

“I hope to make a lot of appearances for this club, win a lot of trophies and set an example for Ukrainian children. Everyone’s capable of making their dreams come true. I’m proud, it’s a historic moment for the whole country and me personally.”

Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Junior says he’s enjoying his football under coach Zinedine Zidane.

Real meet Chelsea tonight in the first-leg of their Champions League semifinal.

Vinicius Junior said of working with Zidane: “I learn from Zidane every day, in every training session. He was a great player and he’s a great coach. He does everything that he can do to make us feel good, not just when playing, but also at home, he asks a lot about our family. He also fills me with confidence and I learn so many things on the pitch. Tactically, he one of the coaches who has pushed me the most to do things, things that I do very naturally and in a relaxed way. He helps me in an attacking sense every day.”

He also said: “I’m much more mature and understand the game better, understand when to attack. That allows me to improve every season in order to reach the highest level possible, to be among the best players in the world, playing for Real Madrid and winning titles. I’m now a completely different player, but with the same characteristics as before.”

We’ll play Liverpool to win, Madrid coach declares

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane expects a battle at Champions League opponents Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The Frenchman also stressed that Real Madrid will attempt to come out victorious from the game with the Reds despite having a two-goal advantage from the first leg.

“We are not going to manage our efforts,” Zidane told the press conference. Real go into the second-leg of their quarterfinal with a 3-1 lead.

“Real Madrid always try to win the game. We are ready for another highly demanding match.

“The emotional and the physical factors go together.

“The most important thing is that the team is prepared to compete. We are going to go out to win.”

Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez will all miss the match at Anfield, but Zidane is confident that all players he has at his disposal will do what it takes to win in England.

“The team always comes together in difficulties and that shows you the character of the team,” Zidane added.

“A lot has happened to us and we miss many players. I would have liked to have all of them, but we will prepare a good game with those we have.

“We know that [this season] is complicated and that it is a very strange season.

“What we have to do is recover well when we can. We all have [congested] calendars.

“We are going to fight; we are alive in both competitions and we will try until the end.

La Liga: Title race will go to end – Zidane

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane insists their clash with Barcelona won’t be decisive in the title race.

Given how tight things are at the top of the table, if Real Madrid lose the Clasico, are they out of the title race?

“No, and I’m not thinking about that,” Zidane said.

“We are going to give our all, and we are positive.

“Atletico are the ones with the advantage and we are all going to have to play for [the title] until the end. I’ve been saying that for a long time.

“It’s a very competitive and very good league. We won’t know who the champion is until the end. There are a lot of points still to be played for.”

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is preparing for the departure of coach Zinedine Zidane.

Okdiario says Florentino is aware of Zidane being unsettled and considering his options, with now less than 18 months to run on his current deal.

Zidane’s declaration that “Juventus is always in my heart” after the Champions League defeat of Liverpool has forced Florentino to instruct agents to begin sounding out potential replacements.

The Real president is now actively seeking to put together a shortlist of available candidates.

Florentino will also consider Castilla coach Raul should Zidane choose to walk away at season’s end.

United intend to promote Iqbal to the Under-23 squad next season as he turns 18 later this month.

Iqbal’s representatives, Base Soccer, tweeted: “Many congratulations to Zidane Iqbal, who has signed his first professional contract with Manchester United. Well done Zee!”

Madrid presidential candidate: I’ll sack Zidane and hire Klopp

Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme admits he’d sack coach Zinedine Zidane and replace him with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Riquelme is expected to challenge Florentino Perez at this summer’s presidential selection.

And has insisted that he would prefer to have Liverpool manager Klopp or club legend Raul ahead of Zidane in the hotseat.

“Zidane would not be my coach,” he told El Partidazo de COPE. “I personally like Klopp a lot and Raul is doing very well.”

Klopp, whose Liverpool side face Real in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday night, has a contract at Anfield until 2024. While Raul, who scored 324 goals in 16 years at the LaLiga giants, is managing Real’s reserve team after stepping into coaching in 2018.

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane feels his team are underestimated ahead of their Champions League clash with Liverpool.

The French coach was asked whether he felt Los Blancos had been somewhat underestimated ahead of the duel, and he agreed.

“Well, I think so,” Zidane replied.

“In the end, we deserve trust. What we can focus on is the day to day job.

“This team never gives up on anything.”

Karim Benzema is the one indisputable player in Real Madrid’s attack, and Zidane is happy that his No.9 has a good understanding with all of the players who can partner him.

“Everyone here knows how to play and have earned their place at this club,” Zidane said. “They’re all the best players.

“They all understand Karim, and Karim understands them all. There’s a lot of chemistry between them.”

Eden Hazard could return to action against the Premier League champions, but Zidane has called for caution around the Belgian.

“Eden has to be calm,” Zidane explained. “We never risk a player returning if he’s not ready.

“We’ll do things little by little and we’ll see when he’ll play again. That’s how it is at the moment.”

Zidane tells Madrid president: Bring back Cristiano Ronaldo

Zinedine Zidane has told Real Madrid president Florentino Perez he wants Cristiano Ronaldo re-signed.

The future of Ronaldo at Juventus is clouded after a dismal season under rookie coach Andrea Pirlo.

The Portuguese great has been linked with a return to Real Madrid, with talk of agent Jorge Mendes contacting Florentino over the prospect.

Journalist Melchor Ruiz on Cadena Cope has reported Zidane is excited by the idea of Ronaldo returning and has told Florentino he’d welcome the striker back next season.

However, the big stumbling block will be Ronaldo’s wage demands, particularly with Florentino informing Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric that they must accept pay-cuts if they want to stay next season.
