Classic Facebook, the old web design of Facebook, will no longer be available starting in September, the social media firm has said.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Facebook has started notifying users of the development globally, saying every user will have the new design from next month.
“We’ve made improvements to the new Facebook.com and we’re excited for everyone to experience the new look.
“Before we make the classic Facebook unavailable in September, we hope that you’ll let us know how we can continue to make Facebook better for everyone,” the notification to users reads.
TNG reports Mark Zuckerberg in January 2004 started working on a site that would be a universal ‘face book’ connecting students at different universities. At first, it was restricted to Harvard students, but the project quickly expanded to other universities.
In 2005, Facebook dropped the ‘The’ from its name, and by the end of the year had 6 million active users and in September 2006, Facebook allowed everyone above the age of 13, with a valid email to register. In 2006 also, Facebook launched a ‘mini-feed’ – a precursor to the Facebook wall
The 16 years of Facebook has changed the lives users profoundly – from how users see friendships to how much they care. Facebook forever changed the face of advertising by lunching pages and Facebook Ads.
Facebook hit the 100 million users mark in August 2008 and introduced the ‘Like’ button in 2009. In 2011, Facebook revamped its design by introducing the cover photo, and the timeline, showing friends’ activity rather than just ‘about’ information.
In 2012, Facebook hit 1 billion users and bought Instagram. On February 19 Facebook acquired WhatsApp for $19 billion, and in 2016, the social media firm introduced reactions and Facebook Live.
In 2017, Facebook hit 2 billion users, almost a third of the world’s population. Facebook released a massive redesign in beta in 2019.
