BREAKING: #iStandWithNigeria massive protests hit Nigerian streets

Massive #iStandWithNigeria protests have hit Nigerian streets to campaign for good leadership in the most populous country in Africa and the seventh most populous country in the world.

With approximately 184 million inhabitants, Nigeria has one of the largest populations of youth in the world, and the #iStandWithNigeria hitting the streets of major cities in the country is predominantly made up of the youth populace of the country.

Since the Independence of the country in 1960, the country has been faced with leadership woes, which the youths have seen as the turn of one bad leadership to another after the country entered into democratic rule.

With democracy, came the right of the people to stand against all what seem not to be right.

Groups such as Enough is Enough and One Voice Nigeria had since last week revealed the intention of the #iStandWithNigeria protests, with Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia popularly known as 2face Idibia and the governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele FAyose backing the protests.

At the dead, 2face backed out but it is yet unknown if Fayose is among present protesters.

Reports indicate that the protests have since erupted in major cities of Nigeria, including Lagos state and the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.

Among those seen at protests venues are popular comedian, Seyilaw and Chude Jideonwo of Red Media, PR company used during President Muhammadu Buhari presidential election campaign.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has been out of the shores of Nigeria counting two weeks now with rumours of his death spread around every corners of the country. Bade to return to his country from the United Kingdom (UK) where he is on vacation and also on medical attention today, his return was announced postponed indefinitely the day before by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

In an interview with TheNewsGuru at the National Stadium Lagos venue of the protest, Jideonwo said “This protest is timely. Protests are important. Even in America you could see what is going on.”

“We don’t know where our President is. It is always as if we are back at where we started in 2010,” he added.

“Anger is good,” Jideonwo said, questioning that “When people are unhappy, what are they supposed to do?”

“People are angry because of all what government has done, and they deserve to be,” Jideonwo said.
