Some people have argued that the Truecaller app is nothing but a privacy invader, but some others find it useful.
The aspect that I find quite interesting is that people behind the app found a completely legal way to enlist your number without your permission.
All that the app requires is for people who have your details already stored, to give them permission and you can bet that in today’s hyper connected world, there are tons of people who have your details stored in various ways.
Once the app gets the permission, it simply copies all the names, numbers, email addresses and even social media links they find on you, onto their database.
The reality is that this app has grown pretty big, with close to 2 billion phone numbers on their database, but if you do not want your number included in the Truecaller database, then, you can have it removed by following these simple steps:
- Visit truecaller.com/unlist
- Enter your phone number below, including the country code
- Answer the optional question
- Complete captcha test by verifying you are Human and
- Hit ‘Unlist’
- Once done, you should see a message that says it might take up to 24 hours before your request is completed.
Note that the moment your number is removed, you will not be able to use the app, but that is for phones with a single SIM.
My personal preference, since I use a dual SIM phone, is to have one number on the Truecaller database and the other private….. At the end of the day it all depends on your personal preferences.
So, what is your take on Truecaller? Do you like it? You can send in your comments on it.
